Video Chat Apps

I'm a new Mac user and I have begun using Ichat. At this point it's confirued with my AOL IM info. I'm not sure I'm understanding it's fully capabilities. Does the IChat app sync with most common instant messanger programs?

My other question is with many IM programs, like Yahoo you can chat with people you don't know if a variety of subjects. I'm not sure if you can do that wil IChat.

Based on IChat's capabilities, I'm wondering if anyone here can recomend video chat programs they like on the Mac. Thanks all!
