When I used to drink a lot more than I do now  I developed a hangover cure that seemed to work really well. On the way home, I'd pick up a big bottle of water, a king size Snickers candy bar (or something equally sugary) and down all that plus a couple of ibuprofen before bed. Of course, as I got older, I learned that the liver and ibuprofen don't play together very well, so I don't do that much anymore. The big part of it though (as someone else mentioned) is the water. Makes ALL the difference in the world.

And -- if you get up and you still feel bad, chug a beer or two. Hair of the Dog!!

Summertime favorite is gin and tonic.

Wintertime favorite is scotch and soda -- will admit that I'm more into blendeds (e.g. Johnnie Walker Red) as you can nurse 'em all night.

Throughout the year though, I do enjoy martinis. Extra dry with just a very, very small hint of vermouth. Take the martinis glass, fill it with ice and water to get the glass chilled while you mix the alcohol in the shaker with ice. Pour the ice and water out, put a little vermouth in the glass, swirl it around and pour down the drain. It gives just a hint of vermouth instead of the overpowering vermouth taste that many bartenders put in there. Pour the contents of the shaker into the glass and enjoy!

Martinis -- two gernally isn't enough, and three is too many. :D

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Scotch. (or did I miss it?)
(Edit: Yep, I missed it in the post right above...)
Long ago, I would mix Scotch and diet coke. got a lot a strange looks from bartenders. But hey, I liked it. (With a twist of lime.)

Last week I mixed some Jim Beam and Cpt. Morgan (ran out of Jim) and Coke Zero. It was pretty good. Even my wife liked it and she's not one for mixed drinks.

White Russians I think are still my all time favorite.

The dude also enjoys a White Russian.

The dude prefers a Bourbon Sidecar.

Once, when the dude was a young college lad, a friend bought him his first martini shaker. The dude decided to make a rum and coke, and being young, in college and stupid, he shook the rum and coke. :p

Sidecars are great! I like gin martinis and bourbon and diet as well.

In response to Chundles' and Lacreo's comments in the soda thread, I decided to pose the all-important question.

MR members, what is your favorite mixed drink?

I'm 15, so I can't really offer anything here, but I'm still interested to hear what people have to say.:p
Hmm... if you can get it right, Coke and Sprite, dunno why they make a great mix sometimes, but they do. BTW I'm talking about non-alcoholic drinks, just regular Coke and Sprite. I'd rather have Pepsi though, but still at work, Coke mixed with the right amount of Sprite is awesome!

7/8 Cup of Water + 1 nestle carnation milk or rich hot chocolate packet + 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar + a pinch of cinnamon.

You should try it, it comes out perfect ever time.

The "How You Doin?" :D

- 1 part Captain Morgan Silver Rum
- 2 parts Sprite
- splash of merlot

Surprisingly good and our RPG drink of choice while gaming. :D

I'm a pretty decent bartender myself and I make a very tasty Cosmo.

Skyy vodka, Cointreau, plenty of lime, just a bit of cranberry (should come out pale pink, not red). Mmmm... a big weakness for me, reserved for one or two nights a week only! :p

My favorite is the Screaming Nazi, Jäger and Goldshläger.

Of course, I'm kidding. I had it once, and my jawbone ached for about 10 minutes. I'm going to buy one for my cousin on his 21st. Oh, he's Jewish. :D

Anyways, I like Jack & Coke, they seem to go well together, and the Long Island Iced tea I had on my b-day was pretty good (well, except for the pepper that got dumped in while I was in the bathroom  )
I intend on making a drink called the "Dirty Pelican" based off of Sex On The Beach. Look the term up on Urban Dictionary ;)

a.k.a. "Oil Slick" -- pour the Jager over the Goldshalger slowly and you get a nice and evil shot. :)

This made me remember one I used to make years ago called a "Prairie Fire". Mix a shot of Bacardi 151, tobasco sauce and black pepper. Good times.

Apparently, so I've heard from a friend, smoking a certain illegal substance before bed helps with the hangover (not that I support/condone/whatever this. I don't know if it violates form rules or anything. Don't ban me please!) As does chuggin the water and going to the bathroom alot.

Hair of the Dog! Portland Represent!

This thread is so appropriate after the weekend I just had (my hangover and time spent feeling rotten was proof of that  ).

Jager Bombs, Jagermeister shot dropped into a glass of Red Bull. (x5  )
Manuka Honey infused 42 Below Vodka with ginger ale (really yum). (x1)
Khalua, Vodka and Coke. (x1)

And that's just the mixers. The rest of the night included about 4 glasses of red wine (Pepperjack Shiraz), and about 8 other shooters. My favourite of those was a Peppermint Crisp - creme de menthe, creme de cacao and baileys. I've learnt never to have a Snake Bite again though - tequila, sambucca and tabasco

Ok, I sound like a real alcoholic, but it's not often that I have this much to drink. It made for a most enjoyable night!

my fav is either on a normal drinking night: Redbull and Vodka

if im out to get wangered is either a Power shandy or a Turbo shandy for me

Power shandy: Pint of Stella, drink the first 25% then mix in a smirnoff Ice

Turbo shandy as above but with a shot of vodka thrown in

aka Starry Night because of the gold flakes.

Gin & Tonic. My fav is the Seagrams with the twist of lime already added. I always have it stocked at my place.

Hangovers are caused by the impurities of the alcohol, so since darker liquors have more impurities, the lighter ones will tend to have fewer congeners (impurities).

Lots of water helps flush those toxins out and also helps prevent dehydration, as alcohol is also a diuretic. Your liver and kidneys need water to process the alcohol, so when you lose water, your body struggles to rid itself of toxins.

Wow that is a great information!! thats why when i have hang-over i always crave for ice cold water i can drink about a liter after i wake up...thanks for that information!!! this will help me take care of my liver cause my father died of cyrosis of the liver...this makes me a little careful to my liver!

Ugh, that's something I hate about Goldshläger, it's such a waste of gold! The other thing I hate is the taste; I'm not a big fan of cinnamon.

I figure it's 1:1, and the ingredients are listed in the post you quoted.

Does ice count? Because I'm having some Knob Creek bourbon on the rocks

Hey, intern! Get me a Campari and Soda.

I also like a good G&T, Bombay Sapphire preferred.

Or the happy medium between those two drinks above: the Negroni!
