My gut feeling is divided

My "watch" gut says to get the SS model with Milanese loop and assumes the watch will have at least 3 to 5 years of solid usage before needing an upgrade.

My "tech" gut says to get the Sport model because in 2 years Apple will introduce a new design and new features that are only available to that generation watch due to some new hardware changes.

Going with the stainless steel link band for sure. I think the black SS looks just okay but the band selection to match it will be limited. I'll probably pick up a sport band on day one then if I'm really liking the watch add another nice band like the classic buckle or milanese loop.

Out of curiosity, what did you discover about the Milanese loop that you didn't like after looking at it?

To be honest I still like it a lot and will be getting it in the future but the reason I discardded it for now is because since I go to school, I don't to look TOO fancy and we all know why lol. Instead I think is better for me to go with a simple sport band of either black, white or green depending on my mood or feeling in a specific day. And I'll probably later on use the Milanese for when I go out with friends or people on weekends :)

Ah yes, that's a bit of a concern for me as well. Additionally, depending on the size of your wrist, the Milanese loop looks like the magnetic clasp may end up being on a spot on the wrist which makes it really annoying. I'd hate for it to be on the 2/3 spot away from my wrist; just off balance enough that when I put my wrist down I can feel it tilting my wrist. That would be annoying.

Right now my current watch has a links band and I routinely rest it on a surface where the band contacts the table; but it has no protrusions on the side that is against the table so it's fine. The Milanese loop would probably make things unbalanced.

It's for that reason I'm thinking of springing extra $$ for the links band.

If the link band didn't look so masculine, I'd buy it. Which leaves me thinking I'll either go for the Modern Buckle or take a chance on the Milanese.

Like everyone else, I have been flip flopping on my decision and torn on what to get. When Apple put the AW on the store where you could see all the different models, there was only one that I immediately loved and wanted to get. And it happened to be the most expensive one (not counting Edition) so I decided not to get it and consider the rest.

Well, weeks and weeks have past and was still not 100% decided. Until I watched those videos of someone resizing and trying on the Space Grey Stainless Steel and my initial gut decision returned. And that's how I knew which one to buy!

TL;DR if you're still unsure, think back on the model that you immediately wanted and stick with that one.

I don't like the price but I have to get the SS Classic Buckle as it has the biggest wrist size.

I am a BIG guy with (yes I know big guys always say this :)) real big wrist bones and the 215 mm will barely fit me!~ :)

My immediate reaction during the unveiling was to get the stainless steel model just for the Sapphire screen. I was a bit disappointed at the pricing. If they had priced it at $499 instead for the 42mm Apple Watch, I would have not hesitated at all.

I guess I'm still trying to justify the $200 more price difference. It's between the Space Gray Apple Watch Sport and the Apple Watch with Black Sport band at this point. I'm definitely leaning towards the steel, but I don't know if I want to spend so much on the first generation device :(

I really like the stainless steel with link band...but I just can't justify spending 1k+ on something that I likely won't be using in two years (And to be honest...I imagine resale value will be pretty low unfortunately because of how rapidly the tech will be evolving.)

1k on a watch I could hand down to my kids? Sure. But 1k for a temporary iPhone accessory...ehhh. Even $400 is pushing it, but I want to be able to build apps for it when the full SDK is released.

Would you like something like this? I think it's really cute. :p

I'm still indecisive on which sport model I should get. Ideally, I would want a silver sport with a black sport band, which isn't an option to buy unless I get an extra bracelet. I would really love the 42mm stainless steel with black sport band, however I can't see myself paying an extra $200 just for a shinier watch.

My initial gut feeling was to get the Stainless Steel model with a leather loop. After considerable thought on the matter, I have decided to go in at the lowest point of entry for the first iteration, which would be the Sport model.

I had initially thought I would be getting the Space Grey with Black band, but I now am leaning more towards the Aluminum model with White band, with the thought of picking up an extra black band for it.

I can't say for sure as everything can go out the window after seeing them in person, but I really think the Aluminum model goes a lot better with a wider range of bands than does the Space Grey model, which is why I'm currently leaning towards the Aluminum model.

Same boat. I was all jacked up for the SS with milanese loop, but I keep defaulting back to aluminum with a white and black sport band (with a green too). It just has more practicality for my tastes with the aluminum and sport band, from business casual to athletics. The SG alum does look sharp, but in limited uses for fashion.

I'm leaning toward the stainless steel model with the link bracelet. May pick up a sport band as well, but the link bracelet should meet all of my needs.

The Space Black Stainless Steel fell exactly within my price prediction for the Apple Watch (I was guessing the range would be between $700-$1200 for that line), so I decided to go for that one. My only qualm is the lack of alternative band options (the black sport band is the only other one that matches), but I'm guessing the link would be fine in most settings.

I think the black stainless steel model will also look fine with the leather loops, or any color of the sport band. I was actually excited about the thought of the space black watch with the green sport band until I found out that the space black model was out of the price range I was interested in spending.

Agreed, I need to see it in person. I can't justify the $200 upgrade right now for a gen 1 item that will be really obsolete in a year.

42mm al sport in space grey

I want to play with the technology, but there is no way that I'm going to invest more in a first generation product. I'll go steel next version if the product improves my life.

There is no way to know what "obsolete" means here.

It is not like a good watch which will last for decades with the money we are spending. Basically we are buying items that will be "obsolete" in a short amount of time. Do you really think the watch you buy now will be working in 2025? It is disposable tech.
I have the money and can't justify spending 1k on a watch that has a high probability of being a paperweight in 10 years. It is just me. I am am going the sport with black band and getting a screen protector. That $200 will go towards my 6s+ in the fall. The sport can do everything that the steel one can.

This is tech gear. Do you expect to buy a computer, phone, or tablet that's not outdated in 10 years?

It's not really valid to compare a smart watch to any other watch.

Gut decision? Thankfully my gut says don't buy. Wait till there's a compelling use case. It will be interesting to see how easily Apple convinces the Faithful.

When I first saw the watch in September I thought it was ugly. I didn't like the asymmetry. It slowly grew on me and I decided I'd get the Edition with midnight blue band "even if it costs £1,000".

Alas.

There is never a good time to buy technology: something better is always around the corner. The SS with black sports band will cost me £519. If I keep it for two years that's less than £1 a day. People who go to Starbucks every day spend at least double that. And I'm getting an asset that will have at least some resale value.

Will the 2016 Apple Watch really be that much better? (They're not going to call it the Apple Watch 2: that would be tacky.) Admittedly the first iPhone and first iPad were a bit rubbish compared with what came next. But I have the feeling that they've put more thought and development into the Watch.

If it is significantly better I'll probably do what I do with phones: sell what I've got and part-fund the new one. If not -- and I personally feel this is more likely -- I'll do what I do with laptops: wait until the thing is on its way out.

Either the white Sport band on aluminium or SS, probably 38mm. That was my gut reaction to the model I wanted (apart from the link bracelet - but that's a bit out of my budget!).

Not sure which yet, I do like the SS model but wonder if it's worth the extra £180 for essentially the same thing. The only big factor I'm persuaded by is the sapphire screen.

May I ask what changed your mind from when the first rumor back in 2013 came out to now? You said you would eat various articles of clothing before buying an Apple Watch. Did the actual reveal of the watch change your mind or?

Your gut decision of AW Model

I'd like to see the actual post if you could link it, I must confess I can't actually remember saying that (not saying I didn't, just my memory's a bit duff...).

I think in 2013, I used my phone very differently (and, of course, my phone then was much smaller!). I didn't have incessant emails coming in every day, I didn't have non stop social media notifications, and I probably didn't see the use of the watch. I do now, and I'm happy to admit I changed my mind. Having said that, while I will probably buy one, I don't feel it will be as integral to my daily life as my iPhone and iPad have been. I hope to be proven wrong though.

last year I really wanted the edition with milanese loop but after they announced the stupidly high price i nope'd out.

right now my "fashion" side wants the 42mm SS with milanese loop but my "everyday life, exercise, and budget friendly" side wants the 42mm sport with white band.

i think as a compromise i will get the SS with milanese and white sport band and change them as necessary, but I might get lazy and just use one. I really want to know the weight of the milanese loop and how secure the magnet on it is.

the sport with white band is nice because it matches my silver iphone 6+. and its 200 dollars less than the SS.

I dont know. way too many options, this is driving me crazy.
