I was playing Starcraft 2 for a couple of hours in a reasonably warm room and I had that notification waiting for me when I quit, also saying that Starcraft 2 was responsible for the overheating. The system didn't actually shut down though. This is the first time I've seen this happen. Has anyone had their system shut down before?

    Perfectly normal.
You get a notification telling you that the cpu is throttling itself to stay safe, if it gets hotter it shuts down.
Happens sometimes, though for me it hasn't happened while playing Starcraft 2.
I got it with Divinity Original Sin.

Bit of an apropos, I find that the machine gets warmer with macOS than in Bootcamp.
Seems macOS lets it get warmer before throttling than Windows.
Anecdotal evidence though, might just be my imagination.

You are playing a graphically demanding game on a passively cooled laptop, its to be expected.
