My confession: always wanted an electric typewriter as a kid. wanted to be a writer. always have. haven't done enough of the work.

Now reliving the dream with my MBA 11". Writing. Being a writer...finally. Daily. Getting the work done.

My wife doesn't know I have both the 13 and the 11. They both sit there next to the charger, she's just so uninterested that it doesn't register in her primitive female brain. She's probably thinking about how she'll move my couch later and doesn't even notice that the number of laptops has increased. We're on day 7 now since I bought the 11 in addition to the 13. By the time she figures it out I should have ample plausible deniability "dear, what are you talking about, that one has been here for months, give me a break!"

Thank goodness my future husband will never be able to pull that on me. ;)

I take it to the bathroom with me, I know, yuck, but I get bored in there and like to have something to do (no, I'm not replying to this from the bathroom, I'm in my car... yes, really).

I throw it onto the couch with no worries it will ever break, scratch or cause me guilty feelings of abusive behavior.

Kind of like John Adams, I believe in being with a woman that's at least my equal. Truthfully, mine's probably a little smarter than I am, but she loves me enough to not let me know that all of the time. I implicitly trust her insights and her judgment.

It does come with a price, though. Were I to try and pull that off, not only would she instantly realize it, she would probably walk up and say, "Oooh, you got me the little one! Love you!", and immediately walk off with it.

I came for the boobies, but stayed for the brains. Not regretting it one bit. I absolutely adore that woman.

Haha nice. So which one do you prefer?

Ok, if an evil faery came down and declared that I had to choose just one and get rid of the other, and she ended up being impervious to buckshot, I'd choose the 11". The 13" is a small version of the 13 mbp with a frustratingly different screen that is better in some ways and worse in other ways than the pro and I could use the 13 pro intstead of the Air and not be bothered by it. The 11 has no equal in the Mac lineup nor really in the PC lineup. It's unique and it's the one that would stay.

I almost never leave my mba alone. If I sleep, it is in it's cover in my bag next to my bed, recharging as well, when I'm out, it's still in the bag but on my shoulder, when I'm at the office it's on my desk and when we are going to my in-laws, it is with me as well.
A bit pathetic perhaps, but the idea that it could get stolen and I wouldn't have all my work anymore (yes, I have several backups at several locations) is too much for me. So I take it almost anywhere.
the last couple of years my bag has changed from a Tom Bihn Synapse backpack to a really nice leather shoulder bag from Gfeller casemakers, so I needed to take less weight with me. I dumped a lot of the weight when changing my MBP13" to a MBA13" and then to an MBA11", taking a whole lot less stuff with me, almost no paper anymore and I lost weight from around 9-11kg's, to around 3-3,5kg's these days. And the backpack was just 700gr. but the shoulderbag is around 1.3kg's. It's just so much nicer too look at! The nice thick oak tanned leather, nice design and superb craftsmanship make this bag a keeper.
And I'm getting older, so walking around with a backpack was getting a bit odd, at times it felt just like running around with a "propellor-cap".
I don't lend out my MBA either, it's my laptop, not somebody else's. When my wife wants to use it (e.g. when we are on holiday and "only" have one computer with us), I'll start her own user, she's not using the same account as I am.
I often wipe the aluminum with a moist paper towel intended for cleaning glasses to keep it looking nice and uniformly smooth.
And I feel often like iViking. I had a mechanical typewriter on which I learned to type on an after high school course (every wednesday afternoon for 26 long, looooong weeks while I was in 5th grade orso). Some other kids had an electric typewriter, but these where a bit expensive. I wanted to write a book, fiction, and still do. But even though I do write a lot of reports, make extensive plans for projects and do write a lot, I still have that feeling that I want to write a fiction book on my MBA11". I'll probably never will, I think I can't write that much (there is just not enough to say to fill a book) but tim MBA gives me the feeling I might just open it and start on my next pullizer price winning piece of journalism, or on the next best selling book.

11 or 13?

Lol, I know that, and do that. lol. I just don't like how she handles the thing. She actually clicks the trackpad instead of using the tapping feature. Huhhh.

I'm pretty sure the trackpad was designed to be clicked...seeing as tap to click is not enabled by default.

I typically use a combination of the two (tap/click) depending on what I am doing.

I hope Apple put some sort of "Find my Mac" app in Lion like it has for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch versions.

They have included it with iCloud and it's is available for developers to use ATM with the beta

I've got it and it works amazingly!!!

Hi there,
I'm going to buy my a MacBook air this summer - my first MacBook. I can't wait as they're fabulous little machines. Only I'm ambivalent about whether to buy a 11 or 13 inch. I was steadfast about the 11" at first; why pay the extra for a little more screen? However I've heard a lot of people say the 11" inch is too small to use as a primary machine - and even that the MBA as a model is designed to be a go-between. Yet die-hard MBA fans insist that once you go MBA, you never go back and that it's simply perfect as a work device. You have both so I want to ask your opinion on this. do you find the 11" adequate for everything? Like you, I'll use the MBA for almost exclusively word processing and browsing. I'm a bonny student so I would prefer the portability. I've got a desktop at home so I won't store everything on the laptop. The MBA will be my designated essay machine for university only. So how'd you figure?

Okay, it's time to 'fess up. What are some things you do with your MacBook Air that are you would tell non-users?

Here are two of mine:

I actually clean, wipe down my Air every week. It doesn't get that dirty, but I still give a wipe down. I've never done this with other computers.

I sometimes hide the Air from my family, including my wife. If I could splurge the money I'd buy the fake book case and hide in there.

I have a few more confessions, but I'll what to see what others share.

There's really nothing that I do on my Air that is special that I wouldn't tell non-users.

Let's see here... Yep. Nothing special. Here's a list of things that come close to it I guess:
- I clean my screen every couple of days since it always gets bits of dust or whatever on it, and I don't like that. I originally used the back of my finger lightly, but often that leaves a small smudge on the glossy surface, so I only use a dry cloth now. I try to avoid smudging it at all since I like minimizing the amount of times I need to use a wet cloth to clean the screen.
- I have cleaned the actual Air once so far, and I intend to clean it again today. The keys don't stay 100% clean, and nor does the body. So upkeep is always good.
- I pick up the Air to admire the actual physical construction of it from time-to-time.
- I feel the trackpad on each side to see which side it has leaned to. Try only clicking on the left side of the trackpad all day. It will start to lean slightly to the left. If you do it on the right, the same for the right. This will be by about a third of a mm. You can notice it if you measure by using a fingernail and seeing which side catches your fingernail better.

Things that I do with my Air and I don't tell anyone else, though, are things that I also do with my computer and don't tell anyone else. Pretty normal stuff I reckon. Nothing a nice browser wipe can't fix.

Sorry, forgot about this thread.
I now have the 11" for a week. That isn't long, but so far, the 11" is doing everything my 13" did. So I carry it everywhere, literary and I'm still surprised that 1" of each side and 25% less weight makes such a difference. Yes, you get less space, but face it, the white macbook and the MBP13" have the same amount of pixels?! And they always did very nicely. So why would all of a sudden having the same amount of pixels be bad? Yes, more real-estate is nice. But you pay a price for that as well.

For me there is only one drawback to the 11", the 5 hour battery life. That can be a bit short if you need it all day without power. If you're in college and you have one day a week that you need 10 hour performance, a HyperMac 60Wh battery might save the day, but if you need every day a steady 6 or 7 hours without any other power source close by, I would suggest the 13"
When I'm at my office, I'll have a 27" ACD thunderbolt soon, when I'm on the road, the 11" will do nicely. But any 24" display will do nicely on a students room and save you a lot of money.

Have you installed Prey on your Air? It's not full proof—nothing is—, but it might help.

this is pretty neat, if i enable secure and I'm on the newest version it says it will do all those things even if i don't mark it missing or did i read that wrong? cause id want it to delete all my browser data and things but only if i put it as missing

100% agree! My girlfriend clicks also the trackpad oh her macbook pro instead of using the tapping feature

LOVE MY NEW MBA BUT MY IPAD2 stikl is best

I love my new -- 5 days old -- 11 inch base 2010 MBA that i got at bestbuy for $750 and with a free apple tv (still to be set up in master bedroom) but have Roku in tv room. I find myself very protective of the MBA because it has a jewel-like quality to it and i love miniaturization. But i really didnt need it altho at BB i have 18 months same as cash to pay for it so its almost like free bevause i'm sure i'll selll it before 18 months for upgrade whatever. BUT I really feel my ipad2 is superior to the MBA as an entertainment and research center. The ipad2 and iphone apps far easily allow internet radio -- cant close lid of MBA when listening to audio -- tv movies. The ipad is a quick research tool, quicker than the MBA. The ipad apps are far superior. Also between my wife and myself we have 2 ipad2s. She regularly uses fir work her 21 inch imac 2010. I use as desktop my mid 2010 mac mini attached to a 23 inch hp monitor with cam and we both have bluetooth suoermuce and the great trackpads. Beyind all that there are in the hiyse an asus netbook -- never used, an hp 15.5 vista laptop with hdmi and blu- ray, several old imacs -- the ones on the dome with the swivel screens. And for home theater a quad windows 7 machind attached to an hdtv. Also the ipad as opposed to the MBA Has cameras which are great fun and can easily be hooked up to hdtv with the hdmi adaptor. Since i git the MBA i still find i have the ipad with me everywhere and the MBA sits there like a sacred jewel. I just ordered a roocase forbit to keep it even more protected. I guess i bought it gir its lookx and the bestbuy deal more than anything. Why i dont like about it -- i find the keys stiff and slushy with not the tactile feedback of the bluetooth apple keyboard which is great and fast. Also the screen us REALLY tight fontwise but thats changeable. It has flash so thats a plus over the ioad for certain xxx viewing but thats about it. I'm sure i'll keeo it but i dont see. Myself using it much. I do plan to put ms word on it so i can wok with files from my desktop. I havent even set up mail on it because i do my mail on the ipad and the mac mini.

Watching porn with the 11.6 inch MacBook Air is a new dimension for me.

I used a old MacBook (heavy!) and it had such an inferior display! Viewing angle was annoying.

I dont think this is a confession but I enjoy watching porn more? Whatever..

Haha, how is the 11" any different other than being a smaller screen? I would think it would be more annoying watching on a tinier display

Quite amusing :) So how many laptops do you have and what do you actually use vs what you don't use? In other words, what is your actual usage of both the 13" and 11" and what is your experience like? I'm trying to decide between the two now, I wish I had the ability to get both like you

I bought my Air for school and to work on my writing. So far, it's been unproductive. Been using it to surf the web and check emails. :[

If I have to confess, it took me hours... to choose a suitable bag for my 13" Air.

It's insane, but no matter how hard I looked, there was no bag out there that could match the elegance and simplicity of the Air. I had to settle with something that was barely there, but not quite. And it's coming next week to boot. So "hours" sounds like an understatement at this point.

Another confession is... I've found the 13" Air to be extremely useful, more so than my 13" Pro, but at the same time, I got more work done on the Pro than on the Air.

Weird, but perhaps due to the fact that I can carry the Air around anywhere much easier than the Pro, I use it more for things that I didn't use the Pro for. And now it feels like I could be working at those moments.
