You could try to download an older version of flash that does not come with hardware acceleration. ;)

Never tried that on OS X. Drawback would be that any security fixes would be missing as well.

I'd sooner just deinstall it.. ;)
I installed the Safari Flash blocker plug-in.... hopefully no more crashes, but going to be tough to test as they only happen randomly and about a week apart lately.

Edit:
OK. I never tried any ad blocking or Flash blocking plug ins before for any browser... but holy cow. the internets are really FAST without that stuff.

Edit 2:
agtoau, what version of Flash do you have installed?
Macintosh HD->Library->internet plugins->flash player.plugin (Then right click, get info)

I am at 10.1 r53

I am at 10.1 r82.

What should I do?

10.1 is the hardware acceleration version that Timur mentioned.

If you are still crashing 2x a day, perhaps you can try to install this Safari plug-in and see if no panics? (I just did this too)

http://hoyois.github.com/clicktoplugin/clicktoflash/index.html

(Or go to Safari -> Safari Extensions Gallery then look for ClickToFlash and click the install link)

If this keeps you free from crashes... there is a good chance this riddle is solved.
If it doesn't ... we can start looking elsewhere.

Thank you. I installed it.

Btw, my kernel panics started around Aug 14 and the 10.1 Flash plugin was installed on Aug 11. So there is a good chance the two are related. Initially I thought it may have something to do with the external display which I purchased around that time.

Let's see if this works. I got a call from Apple Genius Bar this afternoon asking me to bring the computer in. I should perhaps hold off for a couple of days (or until/if I get a panic).

Awesome. Should be a great test with both of us trying it out. Very cool that both of us have had almost identical set ups and both use Safari.

I think I had installed my RAM around that same time frame also.

Do I need to deinstall the 10.1 Flash plug-in?
If yes, do I simply drag it to trash?

I would recommend just leaving the Flash plug in alone and just let the ClickToFlash Safari plug in do it's thing for a bit.

Just don't click on those big grey FLASH boxes that the ClickToFlash plug in replaces the Flash stuff with for a few days.

If Flash don't run on a page... it can't bring down the system :D
(I hope)

The problem is, my website is wholly Flash!

 ruh-oh.

Perhaps you can find an older version of the plug-in and install that?
Like Timur mentioned though, then you will miss out on security updates as well.

I have it on word that another i7 mbp user does not get panics with 10.0 r45.

What is the long term solution? For Adobe to release 10.2?

I started experiencing kernel panics about a week ago (one a day for three days). I have a 15in i7 MBP. Things that changed just before are
1. upgraded RAM to 8GB
2. downloaded and upgraded the EFI

Crashes happened when the CPU was about 100%, high temperature (80-85C), at least for my standards, running Parallels, and using Intel graphics only. I was not running Safari. I do not think the new RAM is the problem, because I installed it about three weeks before the problems begun.

I read somewhere that the Intel graphics was the problem. I forced using nvidia only and the problem has not repeated. Unfortunately, I did not keep the crash log. I will try to reproduce the problem during the weekend and post the log.

I would also try to use another browser to see if it happens then, too.

Well, if you look at the first kernel panic log, it states that firefox was running at the time. In the second, webkitpluginhost (safari) was running.

What do both have in common... possibly the flash plugin (or some other installed plugin).

Did you know that Microsoft deliberately (aka on purpose) made Windows 3 not run on DR-DOS (competition of MS DOS) once? They had to fix that later, but it was long enough to make people stay away from anything that was not MS DOS. ;)

Just to be noted, I had this same issue as well. I took out both of my 2GB ram chips and noticed that one of the gold contacts on one of the ram chips was slightly discolored. I re-inserted the 2GB ram chip that looked fine and I've never had the problem since. Looks like it was a faulty ram chip in my case.

Im new to Mac and had to jump in.

I was having random freezing when I was surfing safari but no kernel panic screen. If i did have say a faulty RAM chip like JoeHemi would the hardware check that you can run from the install disk show this?

I ran the hardware check and nothing showed. Not sure what to do if the random freeze happens again.

I would also try to use another browser to see if it happens then, too.

I actually only use Firefox for web browsing and I have the kernel panic problem...being the thread starter and all :)

I just got back my MacBook Pro from Apple with the logic board replaced. Let's see if the kernel panics stop. Will report in a couple of days or when/if I get the first panic, whichever is earlier.

Sounds exactly like my issues.

I had one person review the log and they stated it could be Flash initiating the problem when it accesses system resources.

Not sure if this is 100% correct about the flash, but I would still consider this a MBP issue as my iMac don't crash from Flash.

Happened to me too. Kernel panics, application crashes (mainly safari) and even video artifacting. I downgraded flash and everything stopped. Perfect after that.

Well, I had my first kernel panic this evening while browsing in Safari. My MacBook Pro now has a brand new logic board, and earlier the RAM, hard drives etc have been checked.

I have now installed Click2Flash. If the panics stop now, I can pin the blame on the latest Flash plugin.

Seems like there are several of us with this issue. What version of Flash did you roll back to?

Thanks for posting this. No crashes here since Click2Flash was activated. I cringed a few times activating it for sites that require it, but everything seemed to work fine. It's looking like we need an update / fix from either adobe or Apple on this to make it right.

I will post back if I get any Panics with the ClickToFlash installed.

Have you tried installing a Flash Blocker plug in in FireFox?

I just installed flashblocker for Firefox after having 2 kernel panics before 11 AM today. I will post here if I get another panic after this, or if hopefully this solves my problem.
