...I have a picture my grandfather took of people working on the Berlin Wall. As in, during final construction where they are putting barbed wire across the top.
I have a piece of the Berlin wall which was presented by some German official to a local politician in the early 90's and I rescued from the bin!

I have a rock from the Great Wall of China. But I really don't know how old it is since Wall has been repaired many times. At the same time, the rock was from part that hasn't been restored recently.

I envy you guys and your antique book collections. One day when I have cash I want to build up a nice library, including antique boooks. The oldest books I have now date from the 1930s.

Nice, but I think I can just improve on that: "The Customs of the Turks", printed in 1555, about the same date as my childhood home was built.

that, and the other books on this thread are so cool

but are any of them up for bathtub reading?

you know, i had the missing pages of the dead sea scrolls and my mother and law used it to wrap tiffany vases she sent out as party favors...and i didn't get to read the rest of it ;)

My oldest possession that I got brand new and keep close to me is probably my social security card. I think I got it around 12-- I'm 37 and I've still got the original one. That's 25 years of wear and tear and it looks it.

My oldest possession that was given to me by my uncle and already "old" is a straight razor kit dated 1883. It has two straight razors (one in good condition the other chipped) with what appear to be "mother of pearl" handles and a wooden block with a weird rubbery (but not rubbery- don't know what it is) but hard 1/2 inch thick surface. I've always thought it was to sharpen the blade, but I don't see how you can sharpen a blade on rubber.

Leather?

My oldest is probably my black laquered steel and chrome bed by Norman Bel Geddes from the thirties. That and my antique electric clock collection from the thirties. I think the bed is the oldest though.

A Minox Wetzlar spy camera (8-mm I think). It was made in Germany and my Eskimo Stepmother gave it to me a few years ago.

My late mother had a cigarette case the looked like it could have been from the Art Deco era. Don't know exactly where it is, might be in the safety deposit box.

An African mask made with wood and copper. Don't know if it is really all that old though.

Some really old history books on North America.

oldest possession

My oldest possession is a 1865 newspaper from when President Lincoln was assiginated.

Unfortunatly, I've had to store it in the dark. It has become very brittle.

I'm going to send it away soon, and a company is going to treat it, and frame it.

From what I understand, it is pretty much worthless.
