Wonderful design that requires more attention than normal because it is a glass sandvich. Also, the oleowhatever coating scratches very easily, so clear film is a must.

I never liked the chrome bezel on previous iPhones, so the new design is a two-fold win, with a brushed bezel and beautiful glass back.

Aside from minor but crucial antenna modifications, Apple will likely use this design for awhile to come.

greatest design on a mobile phone to date
I always wanted a phone that felt very sturdy and solid in your hand,

Agreed completely...I went through every iteration of the Galaxy S on the planet and never felt good with any of them, although the Captivate is a far better design than the other makes. The HTC Desire feels very solid but looks like it was designed in 1995 by a tasteless grandmother.

also some other phones have good designs but they feel hollow inside, I dont know if its the glass but this one just has the perfect weight

The iP4 weighs about the same as the old 3GS and just slightly more than the AT&T/Rogers Captivate, yet it manages to feel so much more substantial. There is just no way to make the iP4 squeak or creak at all. I love the smooth feeling of the phone in my hands. Unfortunately, I have screen protectors on, but the phone still feels wonderful.

When I first saw the leaked Crapmodo iP4 pictures, my immediate thought was "first generation iPod Nano," which I still maintain is the best looking iPod to date, even though it scratched like it was made from jello:

While the back glass can scratch, people forget the aluminum back of the first iPhone was not scratch resistant itself. I admit the 4 can feel sharp and slippery, but I do love the weight to it. Nothing feels cheap or plastic. Even the volume buttons feels rock solid. iPhone 4 felt like a luxury phone for the masses when I first held it. And yes, I like less width too. I'm not the type to use Zagg, but I can see how easy it is to install on both sides for the buyers. Laying it on the table doesn't wobble anymore. And the back isn't as enclosed which can make us replace the back and battery manually so much easier.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Personally I really like it. Don't think I would change a thing.

Aesthetically.. the 3GS is more pleasing looking than the iPhone 4

Ergonomically.. the 3GS is more pleasing & functional than the iPhone 4

The Glass Back Plate on the iPhone 4 was & is a very poor choice for material used. The 3GS was & is Fragile enough without compounding the issue by making it more Fragile with a back plate made of glass!

Why they implemented this feature ( Glass Back Plate ) on the iPhone 4 is beyond me

I personally love it. I skipped the 3g-3gs because of the plastic back. I loved the back on the original iPhone, but I also love the glass back.

at first i hated it. but then my opinion gradually started to change the more i looked at it. when i finally held it in my hand i came.

I prefer the overall look and feel of the 4 to the 3G/3Gs. But again, this is certainly a matter of personal preference.
I haven't had a problem with the glass myself, but I've put a case on my cell phones since I got my very first phone back in the dark ages! I see no reason to change that with this phone.
No one plans to drop their phone, but it doesn't rain frogs either, and every so often, those green suckers come flying out of the clouds!:D

I love the look, but the idea of putting the antenna weak area in a place that is so commonly gripped is mind baffling. Yes I know other phones have weak spots, but they're usually in spots 99% my hand isn't.

Screen is amazing, but I'm starting to think it's too small.

Glass back, I like the look, but I still have to baby my iPhone a little more than my 3G.

So yeah, it wins by looks, but it lost some practicality.

I like it but like everyone else I have ideas of ways to improve it.
It feels better in my hand than my 3G and it doesn't rock around on the table. But it's a little harder to pick up because it lays totally flat.

I loved the new design when I first saw it and still love the design now. One thing I wish apple would do in the future is increase the screen size, 3.7 - 4" would be great.

I thought the design was very un-Apple like and ugly when I saw the Gizmodo photos but once Apple reveals it and talk about it, my whole though on the design changed.

Just the angles they used and photos Apple showed had brought the elegant look of the iPhone 4 that I was missing or didn't notice.

I now have one and awe at the feel and look at the device and I had it from day 1 of it's release.

Only problem is it's too fragile.

Apple will have to do something about iPhone drops by making the iPhone much lighter and thinner that way the fall won't be so damaging.

Based on the consensus...

Aesthetically - It gets a thumbs up.
Ergonomically - It gets some nays.

Personally, even if Apple went back to the older design or improved the design over this one next year, I really wouldn't care or feel envious to get it. My case solves the ergonomics. As long as it just works for me, I'm content. And it has been "ace" and is serving me well! I got a launch phone with no defects. At the end of the day, forget the looks, we just want something that works and does it well. Upgrading because of cosmetic changes is never on top of my wishlist when I get a new phone.

I feel as if the iPhone 4 is extraordinary. My only issue is the choice of where they the attenna. I mean there is physically no way else to hold the phone while typing or playing an online game. Then and again it doesn't really bother me, so cheers all allround.

The design should win awards for its looks, but was no one really holding this thing when testing signal in a week 3G area? Umm No! Iv'e tried to give it a chance, surffing at home without a case to appreciate it's design and my Gelaskin! But it always end up the same way. Me being switched to SLOW boat GPRS. Lucky i now seem to have a case fetish! Thanks ebay! My fav being the griffin reveal etch free fom apple. Love it's gorgeously thin rubber grip! :) MMM
