I think it was just more than companies that have an unsustainable freemium model doesn’t sell things for profit wanted to pay.
Nope. The screw ups and attempted cash grabs surrounding HEVC are well documented. The sheer number of missteps committed by the various parties is staggering. The codec is good and everyone could have benefited and gotten paid if the various parties hadn't over played their hands by asking for kings' ransoms.

This is not new info. Surprised you don't already know this.

Great Finally all 5 YouTube videos created with HDR can now finally be seen in its full glory!

There are currently no consumer level devices that can create true HDR video- you need prosumer or pro level cameras for that! And even then - most actual HDR content is provided by major film studios, and not for free on YouTube. It is unlikely the average person could ever detect the difference anyways - especially on a 6” screen!

But it’s not just consumer created content on YouTube allegedly offered in HDR. I watch my GooglePlay movie purchases on an Apple 4K TV via YouTube. Now they can be watched in HDR at least, if not 4K.

I’d be curious to see whether this App will Cast to my TV in HDR. I doubt it will work via AirPlay unless the Apple TV app is updated since the iPhone hands off the stream to the ATV app.

Not via the YouTube App you're not. Are you saying they updated the YouTube tvOS App to support 4K HDR?

He said “HDR for tvOS” so I took that to mean in general, not for YouTube. If this poster meant YouTube then you are correct, no HDR.

Must be a good movie if you’re fiddling with your phone too. /s

Avengers man! I could watch it 100 times! But yeah, I have a bad habit of that :D
