AirVideo can still play audio in the background while "playing" a video.

I am starting to think its just a bug, plain and simple! Apple only had like four months to work on 6.1, what an epic fail...

Just as the Jb is on the verge of release as well... 6.1.1 will come to fix this bug and then you will have to choose between the fix or your Jailbreak...

Oh this Apple crap is so much fun... One step closer to ditching apple for android...

Alright everybody listen up If you want to hear youtube videos in background audio this is what you need to do 1st double click home button while YouTube video is playing 2nd hit the sleep button then the sleep or home button then the sleep button again and that's it problem solved sorry if you can't understand my instructions.

I can confirm that this works. Tested with YouTube in safari and jasmine.

That is the most retarded thing i have ever heard...

Lock the iDevice while in the switcher when a yt video is playing and then press home button while on the lockscreen and then the sleep button again... WTF is the point in that!? IT DOES NOTHING!!

Just wait for Jb people...

I got this to work just one time out of about 20 tries - can you explain how to do this consistently?
In the end, might be simpler/easier to use another app that still supports that, like McTube, for example.

Try this guy:

Start playing video in app.
Double click home button. Video pauses.
In multitasking bar scroll to music control, press play.
Now turn off screen- sound still playing on lock screen!

This works consistently for me, maybe someone can work from this to do it and multitask too.

Got it! Once you've started playing from multitasking bar, scroll back to tray apps and click one. I am in safari now with sound playing...

Whats the point in that!? The problem is that you can not multitask while listening to youtube videos! I dont care about playing while locked, and im sure most people are the same...

FACT: There is still a way to use the APIs to achieve this as MCTube is doing it! All that needs to happen is Google Need to update the official Youtube App and Chrome for iOS to background youtube videos in this way...

However, google will not do this unless LOTS of people request it because they do not prioritise iOS App updates, especially feature updates! They come few and far between...

EveryOne...

Dude did you not read my edit at the bottom if my post?

I posted the first part because I thought it might be useful as a stepping stone towards multitasking audio for others. But then I figured it out.

I personally don't give a crap about this so I don't appreciate your dismissive attitude in trying to help.

With the "button spazzing" method (the one DirtyDan posted) I managed to get Jasmine to multitask audio in the background while I switched apps around. But I could only get it to work once (and I tried this A LOT). The rest of the time the audio didn't stick when I went back to the home screen.

Yes there are. The problem is, it's not a public API and Google doesn't want people using it. Jasmine used a similar (same?) method to background audio a few months ago but Google forced them to change to the API they are using now. MCTube's devs using some private API and this could cause Google to force them to change it or remove the app from the App Store, just like Dolby forced many video players to disable AC3 support or get kicked out of the Store. Bullying devs is easy while Apple is in charge.

Your way to multitask audio doesn't work with all apps. I think I got it to work with Safari but it definitely doesn't work with Jasmine.

My point is that MCTube is a good solution for now, but Google might force them to change the app in the future. Hopefully someone releases some simple MobileSubstrate tweak to reenable this feature soon.

Yeah...Google was behind getting those apps to remove background audio and they would suddenly decide to bring it back because some people would complain about it...not going to happen like that.

Or you know, it's a bug with Safari/Webview and Apple is the one that needs to fix it.

Sorry mate, just feeling angry you know, taking it out on the wrong people :p

Bang on there! In fact there already is one, only it is a very feature rich and resourceful tweak and the video backgrounding is just one of its features! Also im not sure if it's 6.1 ready (Music Controls Pro)

If that is the case then why did Google only a few weeks ago release an update to Chrome with (Background Audio/video) as an advertised feature!?

Or you know, it's a bug with Safari/Webview and Apple is the one that needs to fix it.

I think it is more likely that Apple deliberately disabled it! But who knows...

Not because people complained or wrote about it.

what the hell are you saying, you can play Youtube videos, other videos on the lock screen when you lock your phone... no Android phone can do that right now without rooting and tweaking a bunch of things
