What is happening? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Everyone has been talking about this new YouTube site since yesterday afternoon and I still can't get it to show up. What am I doing wrong? I've tried viewing all three versions listed at the bottom. I've force quit Safari and done a hard reset. When I go to add it to my home screen, it shows a different icon from the ones posted here. Honestly! It's driving me insane.

Only weird thing is I'm running a backup of a GM build of iOS4 on iPhone 4.

I still prefer the desktop version on my iPhone. The mobile versions of most sites seem "dumbed down" with far fewer choices. The new YouTube showed me a short set of pre-selected videos that were repeated twice. It's nice that the quality is a bit better, but why sacrifice choice?

Yes! Now you also get a better icon too, like I had on my jailbroke 3GS! :D

I got a diff icon though

The youtube App has been in desperate need for an upgrade for years. It was fun to use for the first few days of my first iPhone, but then I would get annoyed with how turtle'ish it performed.

I couldn't care less if Apple knows what I use the iTunes Store for, but I would care if they made me store all my data and apps on their servers as Google wants users to do.

Think about all the information you have on your hard drive - browsing history (which Google most likely already knows quite a bit about), family photos, videos, films, music, accounts, and calenders, to name a few. If you were using Google's OS, they'd have data on all of those things - they'd know what you spend money on, how much money you have, what your family look like, and where you'll be in the future as well as what Apple can get from iTunes Store habits.

Scared yet? Lots of mobile devices are also location-aware, so they can find out where you live and where you go out - and it's often said you can find out who someone is from that data alone, but add that to all the other information Google will have on you by that point and it's a privacy disaster!

So, I am very opposed to advertising companies storing all my data and software thank you very much.

haha nice. I would imagine Google is CIA's best friend. No wonder they're doing well.

Still no way to filter search results. I don't understand why this is not a priority!

The language settings on the web page must be English US for the new interface to display. You can change this at the bottom of the page.

Umm, this new YT mobile is okay, but for some idiotic reason it only shows the site in Italian on my iPod Touch!!

Once again, for those complaining about not being able to delete the old YouTube icon for the stock YouTube app, you pretty much can just make it disappear.

Go to restrictions in settings and then turn YouTube off. The icon for the app is now gone.

Good find, I don't watch videos anyways. now if only I could do this for Stocks ;)

YouTube as a webapp instead of a native app... I guess that makes sense, I mean, you access it online from your computer...

then again, maps is still better as a native app, right? Why is that?

3G better but WiFi not better

It's great now we can get higher quality videos over 3G. However, I've found consistently that over wifi, videos running on the native iPhone app are higher resolution than on the YouTube mobile site. The HQ on the mobile site must not be the highest resolution available whereas the native app picks up the highest.

The screenshot in the article shows the "play" button over the videos. Why don't I see this. Also, it says you can play the videos directly in the browser. I can't do this. Why?

obsolete stock apps is an overall problem with iOS, in my eyes
(weather app!, ... stocks, for some, etc.)

it's a pity one pretty much has to create a "trash" folder for un-needed apps instead of being able to just delete them, or maybe "toggle them invisible" somewhere in the settings menu

If only we could, stock apps remind me of all the crap that comes with computers all those AOL and other 3 party apps.

Wow!

This completely kicks the **** out of the native app, which rarely loads videos properly for me. I really hope that Apple will stop making the app native, and let Youtube do their thing. Like they said, it's allot easier making updates to a website that it is a native app. However, I'm sure if Apple would allow the Youtube app to be just another app on the App store (iBooks, iMovie, iWork), and it could receive updates more frequently, then it might become a much more usable app.

IMO Apple should just take YouTube out of the OS and let them release an app in the app store.
