Watching sports is awful. It’s a zero sum game so for every winner there is a loser. 2nd there are tons of ads, so it just promotes toxic crap like drugs and betting etc. 3rd you just sit and gain weight being sedentary. 4th it’s a huge time suck when you could be using that time to read or learn a skill and better yourself or talk and interact with people building relationships.

You could say that about almost anything on a screen.

Perfect timing for the NCAA tournament. I’ll be utilizing multi-view on my iPad this afternoon for the games.

That's rubbish logic and doesn't track, again more apps on android - if iOS is "more" worth using than android, I would expect there to be very different market share.

There are free apps on android that outperform paid apps on iOS. in the case of paid apps/subscriptions, some of the same services and apps on android are also cheaper than on iOS.
You can buy a new Android device for less than $100. Market share isn't an indicator of platform quality.

NBCUniversal’s Peacock will let you watch 4 livestreams at once for 2024 Paris Olympics

Although YouTube TV and Apple both offer multiview features, Peacock told TechCrunch during a briefing on Tuesday that it’s the first stand-alone streaming service to offer web support for multiview.
...
Peacock also hopes to stand out among its competitors by offering two multiview options: “Discovery Multiview,” which gives fans a four-screen overview of the live events currently happening, and a more traditional multiview experience where viewers can choose which four matches they want to watch (this second option is only available for Olympic sports with multiple simultaneous streams, such as soccer, wrestling and track and field.) Both options are customizable, meaning viewers can move around the screens and seamlessly switch between audio feeds.

To be clear, I don’t watch sports. I don’t enjoy it. But this looks like a very narrow take on what constitutes “entertainment”. Reading, watching a movie, watching a sports match, or playing a video game are all equally “sedentary”. One person’s “entertainment” is another’s “waste of time”. Anything we engage in for entertainment is a time sink, but that is outweighed by the benefits of putting aside the pressures of daily life for a while. Whether you like to entertain yourself by reading, playing a video game, watching a show/movie, playing a sport, or watching a sport, do whatever works for you. And there is no shame in whatever that is as long as it helps you relax and distract you.
EDIT: correcting Apple’s “magical” auto-correct.

Is this feature available on Apple TV already? Or are iPhone and iPad the first to support it? Also, convenient timing!
it’s been available for Yttv app for SmartTVs and AppleTV for a while. it’s great for NFL Sunday Ticket.

I agree. We are an Apple device family, but use google services.
what other services do you use? pretty mad that I was so late to the YouTube TV party.

I have YouTube Premium and was thinking of getting GoogleFiber. and outside of that I use their search, maps etc.

Don't be an irritant. Or do you live your life in perfect absolutes? One could make the same arguments about spending time on MacRumors, engaged in circular arguments or creepy corporate worship. Do we declare MacRumors untenable as a result? Of course not. We spend some time here, then we go do other things.

I'm not a machine. I can manage a diversity of pursuits just fine, from watching sports to camping in the backcountry to game night with the family to reading a book by the fireplace. And I assume most other people here can do the same.

Wow, never thought of that. I am going to stop watching sports starting right now. I love the profound advice we get on this forum.

why would anyone want this??
This was amazing for me during football season... I got the NFL package (for free via verizon offer) and having 3 games plus the redzone channel on at the same time was absolute perfection for me... I love this feature, and I'm glad its on mobile devices now, for when I'm on the go on Sundays.

Market share doesn’t reflect quality of the platform. Evidence that app revenue on iOS exceeds Android many factors over all while having approximately only 25% of worldwide smartphone market share has existed since the early days of both platforms. This article sums it up nicely.

Exactly. It’s no coincidence that iPhone market share is highest in developed countries with higher per capita income.

every thing u need a subscription for when will it end
I mean.... yeah. But, YouTubeTV isn't any different than paying for cable. Cable is a subscription too. One huge benefit is that I can cancel YTTV with the click of a button instead of having to deal with Comcast (or whoever) for an hour on the phone. Pay for it this month so I can watch NCAA. Cancel it when it's over.

It's about time!

$73/m just for Youtube TV and not including the NBA pass? Damn that's expensive.

"cable" tv has always been ridiculously expensive for what it is. You're paying all that money and these days it's at least 45% commercials. Feels more like 60%. Every time I try to actually watch something, turn on the channel, it's always a commercial.

But don't worry, in just a couple short years (at most) the streaming services will be this way too.

Good to hear that it is available now. Subscription prices could be lower though.

Define platform quality.

Gross revenues isn't an indicator of "platform quality" either. It's an indicator of what the average user is willing to spend on that particular platform, it doesn't mean it's higher quality.

I'd argue market share is a better indicator than app revenue.

App revenue isn't an indicator anymore than market share is, if anything it's less.

If you are looking at platform quality from the perspective of someone trying to monetize it, than I'd give that to you, but from the perspective of the user, it's absolutely not.

No, revenue doesn’t necessarily equate to quality but devs are generally going to follow the money, you know, so they can actually make a living. There are endless examples of devs choosing to only develop for iOS because of this fact.

I’ve used both platforms continuously for about 12 years but I’ve generally used an iPhone for my daily driver for most of the duration, for numerous reasons. Right near the top of the list though is because many, if not most of my preferred third party apps either don’t even exist for Android, took years to finally come to the platform or simply aren’t as good as their iOS counterparts. So yes, from a user perspective it is a much better, quality experience.

Market share is simply a measure of cost and availability. The majority of Android users worldwide are choosing it because you can gain access for a fraction of the cost. It has nothing to do with the quality of the platforms.

Anyone else not like how cumbersome it is to change channels on Youtubetv. Would it really kill YoutubeTV to included a dedicated channel changer like you see on a normal comcast/spectrum remote?
