After streaming specifically what I want to watch for the past decade, trying out these services makes me feel like I’m paying to be advertised to.

I’ve gotten used to not seeing ads, and I’m not willing to go back. All the more reason now that it costs $50+ a month just to sit there and watch commercials.

Netflix will be on its way out of my lineup soon if they keep upping their prices.

The best thing about becoming a cord cutter in 2008 was that I watched TV less because there wasn't regular streaming TV available. After using DirecTV Now for about a year or so after launch, I realized I didn't miss it, especially after the price increase. Switched to AT&T Watch TV so my wife can watch a few shows she enjoys and it's only $15/mo. If that starts to go up as well by a lot then I'm out. Cancelled Hulu a while back. For me Netflix and free YouTube is about enough. Might get ad-free YouTube if they unbundle it from their stupid music service for cheaper. I'll probably sign up for the Disney/Fox service and be done unless Apple's TV service doesn't cost much to add to a family Apple Music plan (like $5/mo extra).
I actually watch most shows I like in the CW app free.

I wonder at what point people will start to realize that they pay more for these piecemeal streaming services than for cable. If you are just interested in one streaming service, like Netflix or Hulu, it's not that bad. However, I know people who have Hulu, Sling, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. It definitely adds up.

This is awful compared to Netflix, it makes no sense.

I’d be tempted to pay $5 per month for no ads on YouTube, rather than just use ad blocking. YouTube is kind of a cesspool, but there is some good stuff in there too.

I thought these services were suppose to compete with cable no longer the case with these prices
Not knocking you, but only the naive thought these services were going to compete to offer either lower pricing, content choice, or some combination of the two. This was always going to be the case of "appearance of choice" or "appearance of competition". Content providers just ended up with more bidders for their products, driving the prices higher. Higher prices for content means higher costs for services which means higher prices for end users. It was never going to be anything other than what we have now. The next thing is going to be the consolidation phase where the failed services are acquired by the successful. Bringing it back to a few providers. Reminiscent of the telecom break up... or the oil industry break up.

Youtube is going to further integrate their services so getting a separate cheaper ad-free unbundle is highly unlikely. Nobody in this thing is going cheaper. Not Youtube, not Netflix, definitely not Apple. With all the licensing and content purchasing Apple ain't gonna cut you any breaks.

I miss watching Batman after school on my old tv with the rabbit ears antennas. If I wanted to watch anything on UHF from the Baltimore stations, I had to actually sit there and hold the antenna and conduct the signal with my body. Ah, the good old days when tv was free.

And I agree... there's no point to cord cutting anymore.

Well...unless you cut the cord AND don't sign up for any of this crap.

Personally The only way I've made it work for the family is to drop cable (and phone, which dramatically decreased the FIOS monthly bill) and use an AppleTV to stream stuff. And by "stuff" I mean paying for NF and Prime (and Hulu, for now, with the $12/yr Black friday Promo), but perhaps more importantly using my dad's comcast login to access all the network apps and HBO through the AppleTV. Without Dad's desire to not change his insanely fat cable package, I'd be in trouble.

So eventually it'll reach a price point where I'll just go outside and hike or bike. read a book. Pick up a new hobby that won't cost me over $100 /mo combined. And just rent what I want to watch or be way more picky in what I pay to watch. Definitely not adding more streaming services to my already full line up. I get Amazon/HBO, Netflix. Rent new films on VUDU. Apple Music. And Comcast Business on top of that. So no more. If there is some compelling movie or show than I'll just wait till it's available on one of those platforms. Otherwise oh well.

If you really thought they'd stay low I have a bridge to sell you.

With this, Netflix, and Apple TV + you could get Xfinity with 20K OnDemand movies 300 channels and live sports for the same cost.

These are alternative not a cheaper packages for what you get compared to cable.

“the company says that the price increase is so that it can keep bringing its customers "the best possible service,"

-every streaming service when they inevitably raise prices. You might as well be paying for cable

So glad I don’t pay for any streaming services or cable.

My wife is all about that Food TV and all the ridiculous cooking shows and competitions. Sometimes we watch a little bit of news when something crazy is going down. I hardly ever touch the service myself.

I looked at Hulu as an alternative but you have to also pay for the "enhanced DVR" in order to FF through ads on paused or recorded shows from live TV, something that both YTTV and Philo offer at no additional cost. That puts it in the ballpark of $60 or more, not worth it for me.

I welcome the additional channels but wish they would've added the Science Channel and Comedy Central so I'll be keeping my Philo for now, $16 a month is a great deal.

I just wish I had purchased their ad-free tier before they bundled it because I think it's probably grandfathered. But yeah, if there are no deals like that then I just won't bother. I'm willing to pay a premium for Disney because of all the IPs they own and all the content that is applicable to both myself, my wife, and our children. Even more so if it includes their Fox acquisition, which it surely will.

The thing that drives me crazy about the Netflix price increase, even though it isn't much, is that I already don't have enough time in the day to watch what I want to watch on Netflix, and yet their excuse for raising prices is so that they can make more content for me. Wish I could just say no thanks and keep the current level of content. Oh well.

I have Netflix 4k UHD (gf pays for it), Hulu (comes "free" with Spotify), Tubi (free), Prime ("free" with Amazon Prime), Pluto (Free), and Sony Crackle (free). The only other service I'm pretty sure I'll add is Disney+. I think I'm going great price wise.
Edit: Oh I forgot about Watch ATT which comes with my unlimited plan but I can't use it because I can't log in and the ATT reps are clueless on getting me in.

Over time, I suspect the third-party Service Providers will Increase the Price Difference between signing-up via their own websites, vs INSIDE the AAPL Ecosystem.

When done via their own websites, they get a BIG benefit, a Direct Relationship with the Customer.

That's worth ALOT of Coin !
