Premium doesn't enable PiP, just background play.

To be honest, I bit the bullet because I got so tired of wasting 20% of my time watching or listening to ads. Some of the original content's decent too.
Premium enables PiP on the website if you sign in on iOS, at least in Safari. There's a button for it when you open a video full screen.

How about this: PIP of video content is a core feature of iOS. Any company who circumvents this, especially for their own monetization, loses their developer account, if they have one, and if they don’t then they will be denied in the future if applying for one.

That would certainly put an end to Google’s BS.

They’ve got some cheek disabling it on iOS anyway when the app is an utter disaster. Nearly every time I try to queue stuff to watch casted to my TV it goes haywire and the queue repeats itself or disappears entirely, disconnects, won’t play, etc. It’s one of the worst casting services I’ve ever used. Like hell I’d pay them a penny when this is the crap they push out to iOS.

we will never see it imo due to how apple TOS policies.

just use scriptable app for PIP it's the only real option going forward

See my post above. It works perfectly fine if you use your browser instead of the YouTube app.
For sure, but it's slower (as in, not a native app), and limited in terms of resolution. I gave it a shot before trying Premium, didn't play well enough with me. That's just my preference, not discounting anyone else that uses it that way.

So PIP from YT app is still unavailable. Great
Just subscribed to YouTube Premium for the 1month trial. If this feature is not available in the app in 1 month, i will cancel my subscription. This is just ridiculous having background play and not PiP.

No longer works in final release either
Came here to say that too lol. It worked natively for the first couple of days, but it looks like they figured out another workaround for it. I'm back to using the Siri Shortcut. It's incredibly annoying that they are actually putting resources in to limit native functions of my browser because I don't want to pay them for their stupid Premium or TV.
