A YouTuber has quite literally crash-tested the iPhone 14's Crash Detection feature and found Apple's new emergency SOS function to reliably kick into action in the event of a controlled vehicle collision.
Oh, I'm sooo glad we have YouTubers testing this feature that Apple haphazardly built into their new flagship tech product without any testing of their own whatsoever. Where would we be without youtubers....

I'm sorry, but this is just stupid. We've literally seen Apple show test footage in their presentation, indicating that they have tested this feature thoroughly. Why wouldn't they? No company wants to boast about this kind of thing, only to be sued when it doesn't work.

Edit: Also, if the crash detection is enabled and the owner crashes and is unable to talk, when the SOS feature dials the emergency services how is the call handler going to know it was the iphones SOS function that called them? because if the call handler does not get a response after a few seconds surely the call handler would hang up siting the call to be a hoax/troll call.
That is not how 911 works. All calls must be investigated. Try calling 911 and just hanging up; odds are a LEO will show up soon to check on you. And read up how a mass shooting happened in Buffalo, NY and the 911 dispatcher hung up on the caller thinking it was a hoax/unable to hear. They lost their job and the city is being sued.

So is this where we going to read reports of iphone 14 owners crashing their vechicles on purpose to see if the crash detection works. 'Sorry officer, I was testing a feature of my new iphone 14'

911 will send help; they are required too.

Hmm, so if there are quite a few of iPhone users sitting in a bus that crashes, how many of them will call 911? 🤔

Pretty sure this is the moron that had a friend jump into a pool of jello wearing a Steve Jobs mask to see if it killed that year’s newest iPhone, among other sophomoric stunts under the guise of “durability tests”

If a 911 dispatcher answers a call and no one is on the other end, police are immediately dispatched to the location of the call. Every 911 call has coordinates with it.

The phone has other features, as mentioned, but 911 dispatchers are never to assume someone is trolling.

Lol. Yep that the YouTuber did that saves me from wrecking my own car to see if this feature works.

However, with respect to the suits im sure apple is covered legally if the feature fails to work in a crash. It’s like guaranteeing every time you make a call on a cel phone the call will go through 100% every time.

$10 says the EPA goes after the kid for intentionally spilling coolant (and probably trans/power steering fluid) in a field ALA the TRX jump over a "stream".

I think they have something to detect it don’t they? Remember the video they showed about the apple
Watch calling emergency services when people had a strong fall? They made it seem like they knew it was their watch calling and they knew what was the reason

If this crash detection feature was available in 2015, I wonder if the couple would have survived

because calls were made to the emergency services (the police) but the calls were never acted upon. Yes the incident in question is old (2015) but it is only this year that the police involved have been found quilty of health and safety failings, which is how come I came to know about it.

So remember, not all emergency services in the world behave/react/respond like the US emergency services does.
