"When your device makes this automatic call, it plays a looped audio message to emergency responders and out loud over your device speakers. This message informs emergency services that your Apple device detected a severe car crash and that you’re unresponsive. It also shares your estimated latitude and longitude coordinates with a search radius."

Also 911 never assumes a call is a troll. They always send police.

Interesting, but I do find myself wondering: Would a bicycle crash create a significant enough motion sensing event to trigger it as well?

(Mind you, I don't think anyone should hop on their bike and go riding into a wall just to try to find out... that could be seriously painful and potentially concussion inducing.)

I thought new cars have that built in anyway? I do not see how that is "revolutionary"
I’m sure a lot of people are like me and they stop paying for the emergency call service after the initial free trial is over.

On my Genesis the emergency assistance function requires a $10/month subscription. If it’s built into my iPhone that saves me $120/year.

Not to mention on my old BMW the emergency assistance had stopped functioning because they were putting 2G modems in cars as late as 2011.

"A Professional Safe Environment".... Aka some lads getting over excited in a field with a car, some straps and a skateboard!? And almost crashing into a pylon!
Yeah, they said that and then sent a driverless car careening uncontrolled towards an electrical transmission line easement. There was nothing professional or safe about this video.

Could you just picture it, an advert for the crash detection feature done in the style of 1950/60's advertising.

(remember to picture this done in the voice of those 50's/60's adverts)
iphone 14 to the rescuse. Never fear, crash detection is here.

Then comes a picture of a car wrapped around a tree with the occupants hanging out of the car with an image of a phone ringing '911 how may I help you? 'Hello, I am Apple's crash detection assistant, my owner has crashed into a tree and needs help, location is longitude XXX and latitude XXX, come quickly'.

Then in the next picture you see the car occupants being helped into an ambulance with the advertising voice saying 'thank you iphone 14, you saved the day' with a picture of a smiling face.

then the advertising voice says 'Don't delay, get one today, starting from $799, available through Apple stockists and online. The life saver you cannot live without'

:) :) :)

So is this where we going to read reports of iphone 14 owners crashing their vechicles on purpose to see if the crash detection works. 'Sorry officer, I was testing a feature of my new iphone 14'

Edit: Also, if the crash detection is enabled and the owner crashes and is unable to talk, when the SOS feature dials the emergency services how is the call handler going to know it was the iphones SOS function that called them? because if the call handler does not get a response after a few seconds surely the call handler would hang up siting the call to be a hoax/troll call.
Being a former 9-1-1 call taker, we were trained to listen to background noises and other factors to determine if there is an emergency or not. Combine that with location data of a phone (is it on a major roadway, highway, country road, etc?). Most agencies will dispatch at least a police officer to the location to check things out. Plus, if the crash happens in the presence of others, other 9-1-1 calls are going to be made.

Just wrap it around an Estes rocket without a parachute.

Not sure. Didn’t make it to the end of the driveway before I biffed it. It’s been a while 😝
End of the driveway!!! so about tortoise speed then 🤣 If the crash detection could have talked I think it would have said: whoa dude, what the hell was that? you want me to activate my SOS alert for THAT?? I don't think so

😂😂😂
