Snazzy Labs has been a great follow for years for the Apple enthusiast.

given that the mba doesn't even have fans, its probably not much worse. What about the heat dissipation in a smaller model?
I believe it's actually correct, when you compare the volumes. It's smaller in the 3 directions, so it could be right to say that it is 78% smaller.Hey there, that is NO WAY 78% smaller.
it is probably 78% of the original size, which is then 22% smaller.
If it was 79% smaller, then that would be the 1/5 of the original size!
It's no different than a MacBook Air logic board with an external power supply. It is smaller because he took the power supply out.. wow amazing. Now you just have an external power supply which is still large and taking up space...
It's volumetric. If it's half the width, 80% the length, and 80% the height, you're at 30% the original size.Hey there, that is NO WAY 78% smaller.

Nailed it. Particularly the MagSafe thing.I'd rather have a same footprint mac mini, with more ports and for the smaller option I wish Apple would make M1 Apple TV.
Also magsafe on a computer without a battery is a bad idea
I think the new Mini will have built-in battery like the MacBook Pro and be powered by an external brick.I think he should've taken the meme further and put a mains connector right on the body so it plugs in.

A desktop with external power supply who would have thought...... oh wait, even Apple did that, and people thought it was AMAZING on their iMac.It is smaller because he took the power supply out.. wow amazing. Now you just have an external power supply which is still large and taking up space...
Exactly. I'd also bet that, if Apple were to do something similar, they'd use the same power supplies that the iMac uses, meaning the ethernet port would also likely be removed from the Mini itself. It makes sense from a financial/production standpoint to use what you've already got.A desktop with external power supply who would have thought...... oh wait, even Apple did that, and people thought it was AMAZING on their iMac.
I still think it's remarkable what this guy did, no rocket science but still.
That was my biggest thought. Has he run it under full load in the average congested house and measured temperature of all the components for hours on end? Because those are serious issues. What about the heat dissipation in a smaller model?
Apple were asked to keep it the same size so it would fit in the same server racks.
This is true but the mini actually has an enclosed power supply inside the case so easy to replace as it is. Sure not as convenient as just plugging in a new one but not a huge deal. Also have never heard of someone needing to replace a Mac mini power supply. This is actually better. Aside from a smaller design, if an electrical failure happens in the power supply, it is easily replaced for presumably under $100. Even instantly swapped out. The alternative, with a built-in power supply, is that your computer needs to be repaired and is unavailable in the meantime, and may cost more because of labour.
tl;dr External power supplies are better.
I'm with you - the footprint doesn't bother me, its perfect. Give it some room to breath and stuck some wonderful stuff in it!I'd rather keep the mini the same size and add more stuff inside![]()
