Nice!

Yeah, I just did my first 10K outside thanks to Apple Watch and Peloton training. The Peloton classes are more than just motivational, they are programmed to build your strength and stamina over time.

You just have to let the keyboard warriors moan on here with their sticky Doritos keys.
I don't know. Is someone a Doritos'-stained keyboard warrior if they think you can lose weight and get in shape without an Apple Watch or a Peloton?

I dropped from overweight to a healthy weight and running half marathon distances regularly thanks to help from the Apple Watch and MyFitnessPal. Without these I wouldn't have done it.

It is ridiculous to gate-keep fitness. People are getting healthier, and you have the audacity to tell people they're getting fitter the wrong way.
"Without these I wouldn't have done it."

I think you are selling yourself short.

None of the "fitness tech" concepts people are using are "new." This is old, old, stuff.

"HIIT Training?"

Go watch a Jazzercise video on VHS from the 80's. It's all the same--just prettier, shinier and more convenient now, along with an updated name.

Apple Fitness + videos are the same concepts as all the VHS workout videos from 40 years ago.

Using "My Fitness Pal?" Documents with calorie content have been available for years. The information is all over the internet as well.

Small notebooks to track your workouts and log what you eat have been around since....paper and pencils.

Nobody's "gatekeeping" fitness--people are just saying none of this stuff is needed.

If you need any kind of “tech” to be fit, you’re doing it wrong.
I’ll expand on that. If you “need” anything to be fit including: gym membership, trainer, etc you’re doing it wrong.

EDIT: this message came out wrong, it was an attempt to be tongue in cheek about how the (also sarcastic and tongue in cheek) statement can be taken to a higher extreme and see how bad it shines. Anybody has different needs, some need nutritionists, others need physiotherapists, trainers, etc. Even the very best athletes have a personal trainer, gadget and/or aid of some sort. Myself have been with nutritionists since I was a kid and am an apple watch daily user.

John Rettinger's face looks incredibly airbrushed. In fact their homes look airbrushed too. I bet Apple checked everything — just in case something really embarrassing was in shot.

I don’t know I burn close 1400 calories on a 90 min peloton endurance ride and that’s a very techie piece of equipment with sensors and data showing output, cadence, and heart rate.
If only there was some way to burn 1400 calories without needing a Peloton...

No...I'm not selling myself short. I wouldn't have done it. I know this because I didn't do it.

Your point about videos doesn't seem to make sense. "You don't need exercise videos to exercise! Just go use exercise videos!"

Utterly ridiculous that anyone dares say that getting fit in a particular way is doing it wrong. The end result is someone getting fitter and people have the audacity to tell them they're wrong. Also the post I quoted was 100% gatekeeping. It actually says anyone doing it this way is wrong.

There is a difference between saying "This isn't necessarily required" and "doing it wrong".

I do feel sorry for you. All the best--

Don't. I run half marathons regularly. I'm happy.

If you feel sorry for someone who needs different things to you to achieve your goals, then you need to take a long hard look at yourself and question why you feel the need to put people down for being different to you.

Gate keeping health improvements. It's a tad pathetic.

I think we've heard it all with you jumping in all over the place. I'll let you get back to your VHS, record player and corn toss.
Had no idea there was some rule indicating a MacRumors forum member is not allowed to "jump in" to the comments, whether "all over the place" or just during a discussion of a single subject.

The fact remains---the fitness industry has been selling garbage equipment and garbage advice for years.

People shell out the $$$, don't lose weight (or lose it temporarily and then regain it).

And on and on it goes.

This is the digital version of it.

I'm glad your Peloton and Apple Watch has worked out well for you.

I pity you in that you've admitted you absolutely cannot get in shape without the digital gear.

I feel sorry for people with such a defeatist attitude (e.g., "I could never have done that without the equipment").

What that has to do with "achieving goals" is beyond me--maybe it's just straw man, straw man.

BUT....the pity I feel is very short lived and I happily laugh, because defeatist people are easy to compete with on the stage of life.

Best of luck---
