She's one of the few remaining (if not the only one) Youtubers who almost never say anything bad about Apple.
Imagine how much they love her at Apple HQ.
The takeaway should be how much Apple covets the sort of uncritical, glossy, and superficial viewpoint an influencer like iJustine represents. I have no bones with iJustine—she's not my cup of tea, but she's parlayed a wholly manufactured (by her own admission) "OMIGOSH!" personna into millions of followers and big revenue. That's a full-on success story and she should be lauded for doing so by essentially spoon feeding people for whom emotional attachment to practical products is paramount. There's even a name for this sort of content creation: Dancing Monkey. No criticism of iJustine lands, because she's fully aware of the dog and pony show she's peddling all the way to the bank.

There's a flipside to Apple embracing iJustine and others like her, though: It's the unspoken reality that they don't have the faith in their own products to let them stand for more critical comparison, or to even encourage it. "Magical and amazing" went from a wink-and-a-nod from Jobs, hyperbole as a means to an end, to this weird, soulless marketing machine that results in otherwise excellent products and ideas being presented like Air Jordan shoes. All name, no substance.

This has Christmas cracker accessory written all over it. If Apple were serious about this being a thing they should have incorporated MagSafe into the lid.

You all mock iJustine, but at the end of the day... she's getting well compensated. Likely multiples of your personal income.

True, but can she look at herself in the mirror and not feel (I'm being careful with my words)...dirty?

There are plenty of professions who do it just for the money. Which is completely fine. You know your motive and can live with your decisions/critics. Case in point is the new professional golf league who offered Tiger Woods $800m to join. He turned them down.

Where does one start with this? A premium laptop with a notch - yes, a notch - should have a good enough camera to make this thing unthinkable. But no, there it is, bold as brass... I would sooner boil my head in fat than buy and then attach that ridiculous contraption to my Mac.
Even the most expensive laptop in the world is constrained by its form factor. It is physically impossible to put a camera as good as the iPhone's in the laptop lid. Apple did both by finally giving us a 1080p integrated webcam in MacBooks, and now by also giving us the option to use the best camera they make as the webcam. I'm all for giving people choices. It looks odd for sure, but I'm sure it will be a nice addition to the ecosystem

Why should she feel dirty? Apple clearly values her. She doesn't lie, or engage in unseemly behavior or influence. She's perky and manufactured—an excellent actress, carefully representing her client. She performs on cue for a company that is deathly afraid of not having absolute control of the narrative. It's not about the product, it's about the brand. The brand matters more.

For all you folks that recently bought a MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro but decided to forgo the embedded camera option and are having regret, this is for you.

This is cool and neat but still not sold if I find this useful or not.

I use an Elgato app, EpocCam, that lets me use my iPhone as a webcam. What makes it useful is I can put the iPhone on a tripod and better control what is seen on screen. I can also control the lighting better than for the built in in camera, and use the data cable to charge as well. All in all a nice piece of kit.

I would hope Apple offers the same flexibility, but eagerly reports make it appear to be limited to certain locations/ mounts. That’s a shame because a well implemented solution would allow the iPhone to be more than just a webcam but allow for better videos, framing, etc.

Hi folks! I recently bought a 2022 iPhone SE. This is my first iPhone, having migrated from Android. Can this Belkin contraption work with my SE?

I have not been following this feature. Can I use this with 3rd party apps like zoom, meet, webex, etc?

I don't like the design at all. Nor would I like to have my iPhone [Pro Max] hanging off of my laptop screen either.

Insta360 have just released their webcam - Insta360 Link.
It also does the desk mode thing, but a lot more, with a 3-axis gimbal that follows you around, gesture control, etc.
If I were in the market for a webcam I'd be more inclined to go for that.....

I know the point of the video is about the Belkin mount, but eveyone seems to be hung up on the Continuity Camera feature. I would like to remind everyone that not all Mac computers have a built-in camera (Mac mini, Mac Studio), and not everyone uses their MacBook in portable mode. More often than not I use my MacBook Air connected to a 27" Dell monitor that doesn't have a built-in camera, and Continuity Camera in the beta has been amazing especially with Studio Lighting enabled. I've had other webcams before this that look like potato-quality and have cost me well over $100.

I believe they also demoed a desktop monitor version of the mount at WWDC, which honestly I think will be more useful.
