Probably the same thing that happens if you receive a call while FaceTiming on your iPhone. What happens if a call comes in?

I'm using the beta, and Continuity Camera does have the same flexibility. It doesn't depend on where you have your phone placed. I have mine mounted to an external monitor and it works great. It doesn't seem to use anything to detect proximity, it just appears as a camera option in your video software if you're within range.I use an Elgato app, EpocCam, that lets me use my iPhone as a webcam. What makes it useful is I can put the iPhone on a tripod and better control what is seen on screen. I can also control the lighting better than for the built in in camera, and use the data cable to charge as well. All in all a nice piece of kit.
I would hope Apple offers the same flexibility, but eagerly reports make it appear to be limited to certain locations/ mounts. That’s a shame because a well implemented solution would allow the iPhone to be more than just a webcam but allow for better videos, framing, etc.
Stop being rational in the MR forum. 😀I know the point of the video is about the Belkin mount, but eveyone seems to be hung up on the Continuity Camera feature. I would like to remind everyone that not all Mac computers have a built-in camera (Mac mini, Mac Studio), and not everyone uses their MacBook in portable mode. More often than not I use my MacBook Air connected to a 27" Dell monitor that doesn't have a built-in camera, and Continuity Camera in the beta has been amazing especially with Studio Lighting enabled. I've had other webcams before this that look like potato-quality and have cost me well over $100.
I believe they also demoed a desktop monitor version of the mount at WWDC, which honestly I think will be more useful.
You want iPhone 13 sized lenses built into your MacBook? If Apple put decent webcams into their laptops, there would be less of a need for this.

In the current beta it's rear camera-only, unfortunately. Can you use this with the front facing camera of the iPhone? That is, if I have my phone in a mount charging or not, so I can see notifications on the phone etc etc... and then wanted to use this feature I could without doing the whole mounting and flipping the phone which... I will never do...
Zero Authority!I like tech authorities like iJustine
I have an LG 34" Ultrawide monitor and no webcam so this is great. Except, I won't need Belkin's solution or know if the lip fits my LG, I can just have my son 3D print the same thing. Doesn't need a magsafe, a corresponding lip to hold the phone and this will work just fine.I don't need to mount it to my MBP, I need to mount it to my external display!
I don't think any of these YouTubers have any type of authority. They are well trained on how to read a script given by Apple's PR. They make one wrong move or go against Apple or have anything bad to say. Apple will disqualify them and break the relationship right away.
Yes! Remember when the iPhone 4 was released? All the reviews you see are well scripted and written by Apple. all positive and worth buying a product.Exactly right... and motivating Apple to do that by sharing any objective, critical review would then cost them substantial advertising dollars by not being among the first to get to (not really) "review" new product releases before anyone truly objective can. Those videos are heavily watched by all hungry for new information about the new product. There's LOTS of ad revenue in those.
It may not break but it may scratch the heck out of it if you have a Macbook Air, especially color Midnight. Of course, I would be wrong but I wouldn't want to risk some hard metal/plastic touching the top edges of MBA.Can i use this Belkin thingy on a 2020 Macbook air ? I fear it might break something
