For me, there’s only 2 players in this space: Apple and Roku. All the rest are bad experiences. I’m having bugs on my Apple TV, but the Roku was slightly worse in some ways. But both have bugs.
There are people who swear by Nvidia's "Shield TV" box, but I have no experience with it.

Instructions unclear. There are things I want to watch on YouTube. I've tried yelling at the TV, but they fail to display. Please advise.
Just use the web client in the browser (e.g. brave).
Works excellent on desktop and mobile devices. on iOS, it even allows for pip and playback while the screen is locked, as well as blocking ads, which the official youtube app does not.

For watching on TV, I use kodi with the youtube plugin. Don't know about apple TV, but it seems like somebody ported Kodi to it as well.

A lot of weird things got into the youtube updates recently.

For one if you do a youtube search and watch a video from the search list, you can never edit or get back to the search criteria bar... you have to go all the way out to the main youtube menu and re-select search.
This has been annoying me too.

YouTube's Apple TV app is crashing and causing some issues for users when they try to exit out of the app, according to user reports online.

General-YouTube-Feature-1.jpg

On Twitter and Reddit, users report that when trying to exit out of the YouTube app, their Apple TV becomes unresponsive and shows a black screen. The issue begins when users press the back button on their Apple TV remote, which then causes the YouTube app to ask users to confirm they wish to exit the app. Doing so causes the screen to go black, with users having no choice but to force close the app or disconnect and replug their Apple TV. To force close an app on Apple TV, double press the TV button on the remote, find the desired app, and swipe up on the trackpad.

YouTube has remained relatively quiet on the issue, telling frustrated users on Twitter to try deleting and reinstalling the app, despite those steps doing little to resolve the issue. Users affected by the bug are advised to make sure their YouTube app and Apple TV are up to date.

Hi .. Thanks for posting this! I thought it was just my AppleTV playing up when trying to exit YouTube.

This happened to me yesterday, however holding the home button nfor 5 seconds brought me back to the Apple TV's main menu. It stuck out to me as I had never seen a request to exit the app before. When I went back into the YouTube app it went into the whos watching choice and functioned normally after that.

i really can’t tolerate the autoplaying gif images in the youtube app on Apple TV, I just airplay from Brave browser which is only used on my iOS devices for watching video content on the web sincce I block all video in safari with roadblock because you can’t disable autoplaying videos

I don’t know how this kind of prompt is even allowed on the Apple TV in the first place. Imaging being asked this each time you try to leave an app on the phone?

First paragraph is entirely irrelevant, as the discussion was about watching YouTube on the TV.

And it appears that installing Kodi on the Apple TV involves using Xcode and your developer ID to build it and install to the Apple TV as if it was an app you were developing. A method that is useless to 95% of Apple TV users.
