I use YouTube mainly for piano and guitar tutorials. Would these be ad-free with the lite subscription (these videos are music related but not typical music videos)? If these would be ad free the lite subscription would be a non-brained for me.

Thank you!

I would pay extra to disable shorts. Their existence makes YouTube insufferable.
This. Shorts are essentially lowest common denominator trash— basically just spam and ads under another name. Why the hell can't I turn them off? I hope the EU makes them illegal.

Why doesn’t YouTube bring out a subscription for only YouTube itself. Now I’m paying extra and I don’t use YouTube Music..

This Lite plan does not cover YT Music, just the ads:

I don’t listen to music or watch music videos, but do watch some shorts and those will still get limited ads. Also, I do like jump ahead. Full on premium it is for me. Best subscription I have.
Interestingly, I've never seen ads with Shorts... But I tend to open each short in a new tab, so maybe it only shows ads after a set number of shorts in a single tab/window.

I watch some YouTube content through my TV these days, but I don’t watch anything that I won’t click away from when those long unskippable ads gets slapped in out of nowhere. I know others who do the same. There’s a reason some dub it “AdTube”.

I was fed up of the ads at my Samgung TV, then I discovered (and installed) TizenTube, now I'm enjoying no ads, ever! I still have some anxiety when a video starts, waiting for an ad (because of the old YouTube), but that is vanishing with time.

Imagine paying for YouTube and still watching ads lol
Several providers now offer paid services that still include advertising

Advertising is a plague that doesn't make anything cheaper or free, but rather more expensive. Ultimately, consumers themselves pay for advertising. The cost of advertising is factored into the price of every advertised product.

I had a free subscription on premium awhile back and it was great having no ads till they started sponsoring things mid ad.

what use to feel like honest reviews of products have become late night infomercials!

With premium, users still have to watch all the "sponsored" segments (unless you use sponsorblock)
With the new cheaper option, users watch sponsored segments + YouTube ads

Youtube figure out new ways to take money without giving (almost) anything back

No ads on SOME videos, what determines which gets ads and which video doesn't. I have premium now, not sure if lite is worth it? I dont use YT Music, just videos for the kids and myself.
Is it a short or music video? You may get an ad.

Otherwise no ads. Ez pz
Okay, there are a lot of smart people on here and you’re sparking my interest. I don’t subscribe to YT. Help me to understand why it’s worth it.

Here’s my use-case: I watch YT fairly often, following about 7-8 channels regularly and surfing random videos another 1-3 hours a week. I do not use Music at all on YT and doubt I ever will. I’ve dialed in Apple Music for my music needs. I do have 1-4 hours a week in which I am completely removed from the internet and could easily watch my subscribed YT videos off-line if it were available to me.

What will YT LIte or YT Premium do for me?
Download youtube vids, and watch them without ads. If you don’t want their music service then lite is the better option.
This new Lite plan is quite limited and only removes some ads, as described:

Wipr 2 (my personal favourite) or Vinegar will clean YouTube in Safari of any ads and will allow PiP and background play for one-off payments for the apps.
Yes it removes ALL ads for videos EXCEPT shorts and music videos.

Thats literally what youtube premium lite is.
I use YouTube mainly for piano and guitar tutorials. Would these be ad-free with the lite subscription (these videos are music related but not typical music videos)? If these would be ad free the lite subscription would be a non-brained for me.

Thank you!
Ive had lite for a few months, I have only ever seen ads on shorts and actual music videos.
This is not a “cheaper plan”, as it is missing too many regular Premium features. Google are just messing with our brains.
But it is cheaper if you don’t use youtube music, which is the main thing getting cut here.
So I'm in the US, and pricing for premium light is $10.99 per month.
If you buy it from youtube directly on their website and not the ios app its $7.99

YouTube Premium best sub I have ever had. Dumped Apple Music because of it. Also an AI Pro/Google One user, and family YouTube TV user.

Google Maps > Apple Maps
Google Photos > Apple Photos

Unfortunately it's per user, no family sharing... let's say I have an account, my wife has one and we have a joint one for shared interest, all accessible on the Apple TV in the living room. We would need THREE subscriptions then?

I would suspect so. We have premium lite & see almost no ads. But I don't watch any piano or guitar tutorials to verify that.
