Always suspicious when an app like this isn't listed in the App store. I use it out of necessity though; it's ubiquitous like WhatsApp.

And Google meet doesn't work well for me on Big Sur.

What? Firefox isn't in the App Store.. nor is Chrome, Spotify, Teams, Visual Studio Code, and many other apps used by millions...

I couldn’t get the Intel version to work on M1 with my headphone over a video call and even with the headphone unplugged. Could see each other but could not hear anything.

Wow, I was wrong. Looks like many third party apps are quickly making the change to the M1 processor.

We have M1 versions of our software ready to go but want to wait until we have an M1 machine here to test on beyond our normal beta-testers. The time to get an M1 is long and Apple says mid-January. I think you'll see just about all apps moved to M1 in the next 6 weeks.

And yet the app icon hasn't yet been updated to match the the size of app icons in macOS Big Sur. The Zoom app icon is already a rounded-rectangle shape - how hard is it to make sure it matches the sizes of other app icons in Big Sur?

Yeah, to be honest, I’m pleasantly surprised as well, and I’m glad I made the jump to M1 chips as soon as I could. With so many apps jumping to Apple Silicon architecture, there may be a domino effect with other software companies willing to make the jump in order to not fall behind.

It also seems like it’s not that difficult to translate the intel app to the M1 architecture. I've seen several developers to release their M1 binary in a week or so. Maybe they were working on it previously, or maybe Apple tools (like Xcode) make this step fairly easy, I don't know.

I think it would be cool if (maybe with these new ISP’s in the M1 Macs) when you physically raised your hand the program would recognize that and enable the virtual “raising hand” feature! Wonder how much processing power that would take. The intel versions were already a resource hog but I’m hopeful if it really is “optimized” for these new chips.

Well, the MBA M1 is in stock at amazon, but the Mini delivery is end-of-January. Crazy.

It's quite possible to do today, as FaceTime already keeps focus on a participant who is signing

I just got updated to the M1 version 5.4.7 (59780.1220)

What’s the best way to install new M1 apps? Do you delete the old zoom and do a fresh install? Also, how can I tell if I’m running an M1 app for Chrome or Microsoft etc?

It will install over the old software. No need to uninstall.

To check which binary you're running, right-click the program in Applications and select Get Info.

Can any of y'all confirm that Zoom for AS allows you to remove the background without a green screen? (Yes, I know AS is fast enough - just making sure Zoom has it enabled.). Thanks so much. :)
