I watched the announcement with my kids, and they seemed to like it. To me it looked like a big pile of garbage thrown atop more garbage. But that's just me.
I'm sure the "kids"'ll love it

I don't particularly like Facebook, but Z is right: Android is currently more modern, more (and easily) customizable and overall provides a more open and better user experience.

Facebook's new launcher may be rather lame, but it will help further increase Android sales at the expense of iOS. If one does not see the the writing on the wall, they have their head buried too deep somewhere....

Zuckerberg: "Of course, a lot of people also love iPhones—I love mine, and I would like to be able to deliver Facebook Home there as well.”

So the phone he loves so much isn't even an Android phone AND he won't be able to use his own product. LOL. Nice.

This is all your opinion, not fact. There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to user experience. It's all personal preference.

If by "way better experience" he means "more opportunities for facebook to jam their crap down your throat and profit off of your content" then he's correct.

Otherwise he's not. The downside of Android's fragmented market is bigger than the upside of it's openness.

How many times has their privacy settings been messed up so that photos, IMs, even those of Zuckerburg himself were made public? More than a few times.

I don't want the privacy of every text message, e-mail, phone conversation, etc. going through Facebook.

No thanks.

I like Android...

I like iPhone...

See that's the your problem. You've broken the cardinal sin. You haven't pigeon holed yourself, you have approached life with too much of an appreciation for all things, and an ability to see the good in different things.

They don't take kindly to those type of folks round here.

;)

Apple restrictions dictate Facebook can't.

Facebook is the next windows! They have no taste as well
And they don't care about our privacy.

He says something like "android is great because you can put Facebook in your main screen, and it has a way better user experience, but I use an iPhone"...

I guess this is the last ditch effort by FB to win back younger audience. I think it is a lost cause. Stay with iPhone and retain Middle Age+ market.

"Zuckerberg: Android's Openness Offers Opportunity for 'Way Better' Experience Than iPhone"

LOL. Seriously? Zuckerberg is facing a $1 billion dollar tax burden due to Facebook's IPO. He hopes for a better experience cause he needs the cash to pay back the IRS. :D

I would not feel comfortable having other people's images being my lock screen wallpaper... And Zukerberg is wrong, good user experiences need to have consistency. By placing Facebook on such a high pedestal and essentially demoting apps with just as much importance, Facebook destroyed the little consistency that Android had in the first place. It's a mess. iPhone still offers the best experience because Apple knows that consistency and ease of use trump useless features that add complexity.

"...we're excited that [Android] is open and that it allows us to build these great experiences" (Emphasis mine)

The "great experiences" part is pure marketing spin. Sure, they want us all to believe Facebook Home will be a "great experience"; but I, for one, doubt it will be. Except for what I think is a very small subset of the population, who in the heck wants Facebook content to be the first thing they see when their phone boots?! I don't; and I don't think very many other people want to, either.

Imagine. . .having to get past the picture of your friend's cat on Facebook before you can navigate to the dialer on your phone. No thanks. And do you really think Facebook isn't going to mine the heck out of all the data they can get their hands on and track things like which apps you're using Facebook Home to launch?
