How to share items between my systems ?

Hi..
I just got a new MAC..
But all of my other systems in the office is Windows..

We need a way, so that I can all of that windows systems folders from my MAC and copy the files to Mac.

Whats the best possible way ?
 
You could just use an external HD or memory stick. Another option is to turn on file sharing so you can access the files in the PC from your Mac
 
Im using Pendrives now, but I have to transfer files every now and there, since this is a web development company office.

So, its very painful to do it wth pen drives, insert here and there and bla bla bla..

Any good way, so that we can just do in clicks ?

Your computers are in same network right? If so, you just need to turn on file sharing from Windows

yes, same network..

But my windows 7 is not allowing me to create a homegroup..

I think, I should better setup bluetooth on the windows system and access its files from MAC then.

That will work, right ?

I think your best bet would be to use a NAS (Network Attached Storage) set-up for your purpose.
I have this set-up my home network (2 Macs and 3 PCs) with Patriot Valkyrie NAS which takes 2 HDs (cost Patriot $150, 2x2TB Western Digital HDs=$120 each [in Canada]).
Then install Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X appl. so you can manipulate PC partitions & you're set.
Here is a shot of my NAS on the Mac:

Just do this. Don't listen to what anyone else said. If you are getting something about not being able to do a home group or something you are doing it wrong.

1)Turn on smb sharing in mac sharing prefs (add some folders to be shared)
2)Turn on windows file sharing from link above.
3)Connect to mac from windows by typing "\\mac local ip here"
4)Connect to windows from mac by going in finder, to "go" and then to "connect to a server". Type smb://windows machine local ip here

And that should work ^_^

I think the same. I also got myself a NAS for my home network (5 computers, mixed linux, osx and windows) for 40€, built in a harddisk of your preferred size and you're done. If you buy you're harddisks at the right place, it won't be even a lot more expensive than your avarage external harddisk.
 
Wow! I am suprised no-one mentioned muCommander!

muCommander is a cross platform file manager. It works just like any other browser application like windows explorer or finder, but with the added goodness of being able to acces windows file systems.

I use it all the time to transfer some files from my windows pc to my mac. It works perfect.

But how will that connect the Windows PC and iMAC ??

It looks like a normal PC file manager only. Am I missing something ?

You don't have to do anything. Start up the program, make sure to have the Windows folders shared so you can acces it.

Then on the mac with muCommander connect to your pc.

For example.

My Windows pc is called "Contijn". I have shared a folder called "Movies". There is 1 group that can acces that folder on Windows and that is "Everyone". They only have "Read" access. So really basic windows sharing right there.

On my Mac I start up muCommander and then type, in one of the browser windows, in the adress field, the following "\\contijn". Off course without the quotes etc.

And tadaa! I can see the folder I shared on my Windows PC and can copy/move/delete etc.

Gives some stupid IPv6 error message.

So, I need someone to explain that NAS method.

You don't need home group. You just need to know the PC's name or IP address and type it to Finder server (Go > Connect to Server),so that it's smb://IPaddress/. For example smb://192.1.0.1 or smb://Hellhammer's PC/. Then it should show the list of users.

NAS is network HD so if you bought one, you could transfer your PC's files to it so your Mac could access them. It's not worth it though as you can do it without it and it to involves some playing
 
Ok that sounds easy!

So, how can I get the IP of the windows system ?

And just by entering the Ip of it, the MAC will connect to that PC ?

Provided, the Windows File Sharing is on..

if you install Bonjour on the PC computer it SHOULD show on the sidebar eventually.

hell said it right, just share a folder from ur PC and give it the right user permissions - then connect to it via osx using smb://192.168.0.x or whatever.

my computer-> "map network drive". make sure you use the Macs credentials 🙂

and it will show your external Ip address
