I've only bought one, my 60GB iPod Video, I bought it in June of 2006. I am less than 14GB from filling it though, so I may have to buy the 80GB soon.

I've had 6

I think you're mistaken, I think that's correct that a quarter of us Apple fans have had 5+ iPods. Here's my list:

6/03-6/04 10GB 3G, HDD broke after 51 weeks
9/04-1/05 10GB 3G, HDD broke just outside of warranty
3/05-10/05 60GB Photo, Sold to buy 5G
10/05-3/06 60GB 5G, Sold because I wasn't using it
5/06-9/06 4GB 1G Nano, Lost
8/06-Present 30GB 5G, Recieved with Macbook purchase

I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only one who lusts after every new iPod.

yaaaa!

I find it a little hard to believe that 22% of respondents bought 5 or more ipods. I think we have some fake responses going on. What do you think?

It's not hard to believe at all. I personally know of at least 3 people that would answer this poll as 5+. Lots of people always upgrade when a new model comes out, plus they're also very popular gifts during the holidays and for birthdays. I currently own 3 myself (nano, video and shuffle), plus I've purchased at least 3 other iPods to give as gifts over the years.

Does that average 38ish iPods a minute for 5 years?

um, not sure if my math is dead on but....

One iPod sold every 1.715904 seconds. These are my numbers...

5 full years = 1825 (one was a leap year) + 1 = 1826

then there is the full months of Novemeber (but I'm sure the ipod wasn't released Nov 1st) December, January, February, March and the first 9 days of April. = 160days

so, ipod was been on sale for 1986 days (give or take)

1986 days = 47 664 hours = 2 859 840 minutes = 171 590 400 seconds

100 000 000 ipods sold in 171 590 400 seconds = one ipod sold every 1.715904 seconds.

am I wrong here?

Pretty Big News.

Well this is certainly big news!

Made the back of the Wallstreet Journal.

Oops, I voted wrong :D I currently have 2 iPods, I've bought 3.

iPod 3G 15gb
iPod Mini 2G 6gb
iPod Shuffle 2G

Funny too, as they've held less and got smaller, I've liked them more. Haven't used my mini at all since getting a shuffle. The way you just plug in the thing, press "auto-update" and you have music on a clip, just incredible.

I honestly don't know how they're going to improve the Shuffle for me. I don't need a screen with 1gb of music, I've never even filled it (despite a 16gb iTunes library)! Just keep switching to another playlist I like.

An iPhone minus the phone bit would probably be next iPod. Whenever that happens!

I have two;
First generation and still going strong.
And the new shuffle that is fantastic because of the size and wearability.

Now, I am really looking forward to the iPod Video 6g with 5" widescreen, touch screen UI like iPhone and 120 gig storage.
Bring it soon Apple, Please!!!!!!! :D

Thread 500. And really, you never know if something is going to succeed or fail until it does, in my opinion. Which is why, though I do criticize those who say the iPhone will fail drastically for reason X or Y, I don't yell out that it will definitely succeed either.

i remember that thread vaguely... well, i remember apple fans being super disappointed with the iPod at first intro... it's so funny reading the angry comments from Thread 500... like this guy:

Pants: Sounds very revolutionary to me.

hey - heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?
or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?

Mmm...I feel the same way about :apple: tv, although I'm confidant that future versions will impress me...the vPod should be here and I'm getting impatient with my 15GB 3G iPod....

Still on my first iPod: a 40GB 4th Generation iPod my wife got me as a gift in August of 2003. It's made life on the NYC Subway a much nicer experience. I got her a 30GB 5th Generation iPod (black) in October of 2006.

When you first think about it...its like.."wow 100 million"....but then....try and picture a million ipods.....and then multiply that by 100 and its like...WOW...

Yeah, let's say the current Ipod box is 6"x6"x1.5" then that would be a football field full, 69 feet high to get 100MM ipods if my math is right.
