I'm on #2 myself:

#1 was the ORIGINAL 5 gigabyte, scroll wheel iPod. It is now on display as a relic in my home. Still works...

#2 is my current 30gig iPod Photo.

Next iPod will be when Apple puts iPhone features into the iPod (mainly, widescreen and multi-touch).

I've only bought one. I bought the 40GB 4G the day it hit the Apple Store shelves. It was replaced 3 times (*mutters* stupid unreliable 1" HDDs *mutters*) but it's the model I'm still using today! The AppleCare ran out in August and I've been taking extra-good care of it. In light of some SD Card hacks on hardmac.com, I might be able to revive it if the Hard Drive dies again... though the thought of a wide/touch-screen iPod is mighty alluring...

I'm on my second - I bought a 15GB 3G, and replaced it with a 30GB video when the HD was failing (just after Christmas after the 5G's came out). Then this past Christmas I bought my girlfriend a nano.

I will probably be buying a widescreen model in the largest size available when they come out. I can't get an iPhone until they up the capacity and iron out the inevitable problems (not that I expect it to be bad, but all 1st gen products need a little time in the public before the problems surface).

I still remember friends thinking I was nuts paying so much for an MP3 player, only to see them later buy their own, and one for all their kids, etc. iPods rock!
I had friends saying that this was the end of Apple.

The iPod was too expensive, too heavy, too big, etc. I guess they were wrong! :)

Save your stock money for June, Every good news or product seems to result in a dip in the stock bacause people don't think Apple can out do it self. Well they keep outdoing themselves!.

Lots of announcements and products seem to be coming in June, good time to buy stock.

Between my wife and I, we had/have total 8 iPods, and they're all still working today. This is congrats to all,

Oh man that thread is awesome. It shows everyone's mindset at the time. Even funnier that no one had any understanding of the value of the device. I was humbled reading many posters' responses that were about the tech specs and how it wasn't revolutionary... they had some very good points, and yet this was the most runaway hit the world has ever seen.

Of course, I would argue that the pod didn't become revolutionary until the clickwheel with no buttons... what was that G3?

the 3rd generation was the one with the touch scroll wheel and the four touch buttons above that (i have this one). i think the one you're thinking about is the 4th generation - where they put the buttons behind the wheel and added color (but no video).

iPod with Video

The iTunes Store has sold over 2.5 billion songs, 50 million TV shows and over 1.3 million movies, making it the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store.

I was wondering about the stats on the number of music, shows and movies downloaded.

I saw an article a while back that iPod's weren't at all used for video.

I'm using it for video. I don't always watch on the small screen but I have the dock hooked up s-video to my projector. I also use it upstairs with the composite video cable.

Great job Apple!

Now, where's the widescreen iPod???

My only iPod is a 20 Gig 2nd gen that still runs perfectly though I must confess it doesn't get that much usage as I invariably have my laptop with me.
It will probably be retired when I get my iPhone but that won't be until it comes out as a 3G phone which I suspect will take a little while, possibly 2nd or 3rd generation.

I just noticed that Apple's PR boilerplate calls Mac OS X just "OS X." Seems a little odd and informal for a company so concerned with branding that they won't use the term "iPod nano (RED)".

Hard to imagine buying 5 iPods... until I realized they must be gifts. I hope :)

My 60 GB Photo will probably be my first and last iPod. I expect I'll switch to iPhone. There's one sale cannibalized!

Wow, this babys on track to out sell the PS2!

Now lets see if Apple can do this again, in only one year with its iPhone

I'm on my second. I have a 30GB Photo from 2005, and a 1GB Shuffle (2nd Generation).

the 3rd generation was the one with the touch scroll wheel and the four touch buttons above that (i have this one). i think the one you're thinking about is the 4th generation - where they put the buttons behind the wheel and added color (but no video).

Just to clarify, color wasn't added until "4.5G" I had the very first 4G iPod... a 40GB model with a monochrome screen. My fiancee got a 30 GB right before they upgraded to color. D'oh! Oh well. Not that color is THAT big of a deal. It still playes music and syncs with iTunes, which is what she bought it for.

I hate to think how many of these I've bought. It gets too scary to keep count after a while. I'm looking forward to getting the next excuse to hit the store... 100GB iPhone-like form factor ought to do it!

I've never had an iPod. I dont like music when Im walking around, I feel like I am missing out on the outside world if I am in my own little world like that. I listen to music all the time around the house though, then its OK because the inside of my house is boring.

I'm the exact same way. I like music but if I have something in my ears playing music, I feel like I'm missing out... I'll probably get an ipod in the future anyway.

I helped out with....absolutely nothing!

Never owned an iPod. My cellphone plays my music fine for me and then I don't need to walk around with any more devices.

I guess the iPhone has a larger appeal to me.
