You have to feel sorry for the Air Video guys.

Yes and No. It's due to people like those behind Air Video that we get these things like this included as default in iOS. There's a lot of chaff that comes out of the developer community, but then you get absolute gems like Air Video that even Apple thinks cool enough to incorportate into the OS.

Air Video have made some money and can now move onto their next project and perhaps come up with another corker.

Air Video does live conversion of files not supported by the iPhone, so if you have a lot of .avi and .mkv files it's the better solution.

Wrong...

All my stuff I ripped with handbreak also shows up.... as people keep saying it takes a while for it all to load..... but its all there...

Weird...I wonder why it doesn't show up on my iPhone 4. All the movies and TV series I've encoded in Handbrake should work but they don't for some reason. Any ideas? Anyone else seeing this?

Edited: It seems that when I search for the shows, they appear in search results on my iPhone and I can watch them just fine. But for some reason when I click on "Videos" it only shows two of them, and the rest seem to be missing. Is this normal?

Wifi networks

I just updated to 4.3, and my iPhone 4 doesn't see my 802.11n (5Ghz) wireless network anymore. Anybody else experiencing this?

Any other hidden new features/tweaks?

Apart from enhanced Airplay, faster safari and hotspot, are there any new hidden features or tweaks found?

I plan to upgrade my iPhone 3GS and was hoping there were a few other new things to get excited about!

I was really hoping for the 4 finger gestures to make it to the iPhone... i hope it will come soon!

I am eagerly waiting for ios5 though. I think the biggest improvement they can make is a major overhaul of the notification system. The current one is really getting on my nerves when I am taking the train. Every network connection loss is reported and I really shouldn't have to acknowledge it everytime..

Probably been brought up, but my iPhone 4 does not appear to have "Personal Hotspot" anywhere. It's the GSM iPhone 4 on AT&T. Nothing shows up in Spotlight.

your 3gs will NOT have hotspot...just sayin.

Has anyone tried the mirroring on an iphone 4 or ipad via a vga cable. If so does it work?

Thanks in advance.

i've done it on my iPad. it works good.

however, i did it with the jailbroken iPad on 4.2.1 and the jailbreak hack.

I'm hoping the native version will allow a much better resolution. the jailbreak one was a bit pixelated.

My iphone has never seen the 5ghz...only my ipad. I dont think the IP4 is dual band

No.

I'm eager to find out if the update will enable screen mirroring on the iPhone 4. That would be awesome.

According to the Tech Specs on Apple's website, the iPad 2 is capable of mirroring over either the HDMI or the VGA adapter.

I'd been hoping that mirroring would also work on the first gen iPad. Could someone with the GM installed test the iPad with a VGA adapter and see if it mirrors now?

Thanks.

I'm guessing mirroring won't be possible on iPhone 4 / iPad 1 since the Apple HDMI-adapter product page clearly (or unclearly) states:
"Mirroring supported only by iPad 2. Video out supports up to 1080p for iPad 2 and up to 720p for iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod touch (4th generation). Movies play at up to 720p."
See: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC953ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE&mco=MjEzNzM2MjU

If it doesn't work with the new HDMI adapter, I don't see any reason why it would work with the VGA adapter on iPhone 4 / iPad 1 either. In iPad 2 that might be possible.

That is, without a jailbreak.

How do I get home sharing to work? I should be able to stream a movie from iTunes on my iMac to my iPad, for example, correct? How?

You turn it on by going to Settings>iPod, and entering your Apple ID and password in the proper fields. Once you've successfully done that, you share videos through the video app, not iPod.

Now im really confused ;(

I'd be really surprised if the mirroring would work with existing devices.

I'm guessing there is going to be no change in the way they operate, so video-out will be available only in those apps which have the option separately enabled / hard coded (+ those videos and photos which do it already with the VGA-adapter today).

By jailbreaking and using few apps from Cydia Store, you can have mirroring enabled with these existing devices (iPhone 4, iPad).

Enable gestures in GM w/o being part of paid dev. program

This seemed to work for me.

- Install 4.3GM (fwiw, I didn't install any of the 4.3 betas. The GM was the first one I tried)
- Connect iPad via USB
- Launch Xcode (I'm using v3.2.5)
- Go to Window->Organizer
- Select your iPad under Devices category in the left column
- Click on 'Use for Development' button
- When prompted for provisioning portal credentials, just hit Cancel.
- (Another dialog came up prompting me to enable debugging info on the device. I just told it No)
- Xcode will report that the device is unrecognized for development -- this may sound like a problem, but if you now check the iPad's Settings app under General, you should see a new option for Multitasking Gestures.

Hope this helps.

btw, I really like the gestures since the constant clickety-click of the Home button was beginning to annoy me a bit.

Any word if multi touch gestures for the iPad can still be activated in this build? I know apple said it wouldn't be part of the public release, but I'm hoping they still let devs activate the feature for testing their own apps. Fingers crossed.

What kinda messed up gesture is that??

It's kind of strange, at first tethering wasn't even possible after I upgraded to 4.3 but now personal hot spot is right where it should be on the "front page" of settings...

Overall my iPhone 4 just feels snappier - sometimes scrolling would lag a little bit, but not any more! :)

My iPhone 4 was slow as hell on iOS 4.2.1. I have noticed the whole OS is snappier with 4.3. Double clicking would take a second to open the multitask bar. Now it opens right away.

Not to mention it streams to the internet. From what I understand about Home Sharing, it will not.
