Having watched the Keynote from the other day, I was disappointed to see no mention of the cool gestures that I previously seen on Youtube from people running early versions of iOS 4.3.

I'm talking about the 4-5 finger pinch for Home, swipe up for app tray, and swipe to the side to flick through running apps. Are we not getting them anymore?

OK, I just used Xcode to add Multitasking Gestures to my iPad running iOS 4.3GM :)

Kinda cool

Hello everybody! Long time macrumors reader, but never pushed to participate in any thread. Well, it's about time.

About 4.3 GM's speed, I do not see much of a difference on my iPhone 4. However I'm disappointed to see how it appears to be overrun by minor bugs. They are not troubling, but also not a kind of thing I'm glad to see increasing with each update. Don't you agree?

Several examples (perhaps you do not experience them at all and all I need is a fresh install?):

1. The navigation bar in Photos app. It's translucent, but when you press 'Photo Library' album (or any other for that matter) it darkens for a brief moment (as if 2 translucent bars overlapped eachother). Checked it with 4.2.1 in iOS simulator and as expected it does not happen there.

2. Next up, Notes. Go into search and type something so that no results are found. Now hit 'Cancel' and observe as the yellow layout flashes white for a moment.

3. Every once in a while, the text in Notes is missaligned vertically. It alignes back after scrolling it off screen and back or reopening Notes. Check the screenshots (the Korean characters (but this also happen with latin text)).

4. The least annoying of all. When I scroll pretty fast through iPod Albums tab view (not cover flow) the iPhone does not keep up with loading artwork and you can see for a while the gray note custom artwork. This is very brief and happens only when scrolling quite fast, but it was never like that o_O.

5. See for yourself: http://www.coloss.superhost.pl/idisk/macrumors/notes.mov

6. Well this one is the most annoying: http://www.coloss.superhost.pl/idisk/macrumors/notes.mov

Oh, and I'm not getting paranoid ;) I do realize how minor these bugs are, but come on, with every update there's more and more of them and this is just the first day I'm using 4.3.

Of course I'm gonna report that on bugreport.apple.com, but I'd appreciate to see any of you guys veryfing those on your devices.

What do you think of it?

I'm actually a little upset with 4.3. Couple changes have been made that I don't quite understand.

First off the double vibration is driving me crazy with texts! I text a lot so it's going to take time to get use to. I keep thinking in getting two texts at once. I understand making it different from mail but this is just annoying.

Second, why change the note font? Ive been using chalkboard since 4.2 and now they got rid of it and added noteworthy?? I just don't see the point. Hopefully chalkboard comes back in the future.

Settings -> Notes -> Font.

That's been there since 4.2

Chalkboard is no longer available though (at least on an iPhone, not sure about iPad).

And of course its not the end of the world or that big of a deal. But I just liked that font, flowed nicely, got use to it and now its gone!

Has anyone noticed if there is improvement of BT connectivity on iOS 4.3 for the iPhone 4? It has been abysmal to say the least and I was hoping Apple would finally step up and at least work on the software side.

Or will we have to wait for the iPhone 5 to get a stable BT connection again?

HotSpot

Here's an interesting question. If I were to use hotspot on my iPhone 4 to give my MacBook or iMac WiFi and wanted to home share how much data would it use to stream from my mac? I know it might sound stupid to do so but there are times where I dont have a wifi signal and would rather use my iPhone then my mac to watch movies.

Signal seems to be better in 4.3 (orange UK)! Im my office previously (ios 4.1) I could bearly get a signal and play radio etc. Now i have 1 bar of 3G and it works perfectly. I have found this in other places. A bit quicker as well. So far so good!

Here's my question. Anyone else noticing battery issues on the 4.3 on their iPhone 4? I've been playing around with it and I feel it's draining battery quicker than on the 4.2.1.

To be quite honest, my iPhone 4 has been received a noticeable boost in battery life. AND it's jailbroken (if that matters to anyone).

Forgive me if this had been mentioned already, but I'm not reading through 400+ posts. Has anyone noticed that, when you select a link in safari, you can't just tap it quickly? You have to actually hold your finger there for a period. It's not long, but you can't just tap it as if you would with ANYTHING else you select in iOS.

I popped open atomic web browser to see if I was crazy, and it allows link selection with a quick tap.

I don't remember safari being like this in iOS 4.2.

Btw, this is iPhone specific. The iPad does NOT have this issue.

Just to confirm that you can easily set your iOS device to Developer Mode using the new Xcode4. The procedure is different than before, but still easy.
Rn Xcode and click on Windows, then you'll findtwo options enabled. One of them opens a window that will list your iOS devices. Click on it, and follow the prompts click cancel when it asks you to enter a password (it may ask you more than once).

The gestures are definitely a huge plus, just three observations:
- Swipe gestures are harder to do with five fingers
- Pinching with four fingers is possible but very difficult and unnatural.
- There should be a gesture to close the app completely, so it doesn't stay in the multitasking bar.

I do love the feature, it takes a little to get used to it and stop pushing the Home button.

Just FYI

Yesterday option-shift updated to the official release, and the gestures I had enabled in the GM (and the toggle in Settings) were still present and functional.

iOS 4.3 breaks wireless N @ 5GHz on all devices!

4.3 is bugged! If u upgrade your atv2, iPad, and ip4 will no longer b able to do 802.11n @ 5ghz. They can still so 802.11a at 5ghz. Apple confirmed this is a bug and a 4.3.1 release will b needed to fix it

This is a huge issue for me as the 2.4g band in my neighborhood is saturated. So I downgraded everything back to 4.2.1 (apple is still signing and validating it)

Some ppl who have their routers in mixed A/N modes at 5 ghz may not notice this at first

so I'm new to all this and am pretty confused. I enrolled in the dev program when it was first announced a few years ago (the free version). Today I downloaded xcode 3.
Where do I find 4.3GM? How do I install it on my ipad?

XCode not seeing my Ipad2

The directions sound easy if your device is recognized- but nothing shows up in my organizer- suggestions?

This seemed to work for me.

- Install 4.3GM (fwiw, I didn't install any of the 4.3 betas. The GM was the first one I tried)
- Connect iPad via USB
- Launch Xcode (I'm using v3.2.5)
- Go to Window->Organizer
- Select your iPad under Devices category in the left column
- Click on 'Use for Development' button
- When prompted for provisioning portal credentials, just hit Cancel.
- (Another dialog came up prompting me to enable debugging info on the device. I just told it No)
- Xcode will report that the device is unrecognized for development -- this may sound like a problem, but if you now check the iPad's Settings app under General, you should see a new option for Multitasking Gestures.

Hope this helps.

btw, I really like the gestures since the constant clickety-click of the Home button was beginning to annoy me a bit.
