Given that the public release is usually bit-for-bit identical to the GM, except for the file name, why would you want an "upgrade" that changes nothing/zero/nada?

Apple has said that multi-touch gestures would not be included of the consumer release of iOS 4.3, but they are still present in the GM build. Those who enjoy the gestures might want to keep the GM build on their devices a little longer. I'm getting an iPad 2 on the 11th which should have 4.3 installed from the start, so unfortunately I'll loose that awesome feature.

How to tell if 4.3 GM (8F190) is the same as the Mar 11 release

Since this question usually comes up with each iOS version bump, here are the file signatures for the 4.3 GM ipsw file that was made available to devs yesterday. When the official public release of 4.3 is made on Mar 11, you can just compare the file signatures to verify if they are the same.

In other words, if you just installed the 4.3 GM and are wondering if you need to upgrade to the official 4.3 release on Mar 11, just compare the file signatures at that time. If they are identical, you're good to go and don't have to update.

filename: iPad1,1_4.3_8F190_Restore.ipsw
size: 625,814,678 bytes
MD5: 9a889ba48bc2715292f199f50c70ed60
SHA1: fc97d5959a1e29d707586871004ea12e95815237

Update: Confirmed. The GM is the same as the official 4.3 version released (and downloaded directly from apple.com) earlier today. The file size/signatures on both versions are identical. So if you installed the GM, you have the official 4.3 release and don't need to do anything.

Thanks!

I followed your directions and it worked for me as well. I have never installed any of the 4.3 betas either.

This seemed to work for me.

- Install 4.3GM (fwiw, I didn't install any of the 4.3 betas. The GM was the first one I tried)
- Connect iPad via USB
- Launch Xcode (I'm using v3.2.5)
- Go to Window->Organizer
- Select your iPad under Devices category in the left column
- Click on 'Use for Development' button
- When prompted for provisioning portal credentials, just hit Cancel.
- (Another dialog came up prompting me to enable debugging info on the device. I just told it No)
- Xcode will report that the device is unrecognized for development -- this may sound like a problem, but if you now check the iPad's Settings app under General, you should see a new option for Multitasking Gestures.

Hope this helps.

btw, I really like the gestures since the constant clickety-click of the Home button was beginning to annoy me a bit.

I have two iTunes Home Sharing systems set up. ATV2 sees them both, no problem. iPhone 4 + iOS 4.3 only sees one -- sometimes the Mac one appears, sometimes the PC one appears, but never both at the same time. Given that they both show up under :apple:TV2, this almost has to be a bug, doesn't it?

Same thing here with 2 Macs. Both show up on the ATV and in each other's iTunes, but only one at a time (and not always the same one) on the iPad. Interestingly the Remote App on the iPad sees both. Seems like a bug in iPad iTunes & Videos.

Also disappointed that AirPlay still only puts up the audio portion of video streams (local or internet) to the :apple:TV2.

ETA: added a third Home Sharing iTunes Library, and now at most 2 of the 3 show up on the iPad iTunes or Video app. All 3 show up in Remote.app.:confused:

Anybody notice that the lock screen appears to be a lighter shade around the slide to unlock or the slide to unlock indent is darker?

I have an ipad wifi and iphone 3gs. will the new personal hotspot feature allow me to tether ipad to my iphone 3gs over bluetooth to allow me to use the 3gs 3G connection, or is this still a function not allowed by apple?

secondly, if in fact the bluetooth tethering IS allowed, what is more battery efficient for tethering, bluetooth or wifi?
The Personal Hotspot feature is only available on the iPhone 4. You can still use standard bluetooth tethering on the 3GS.

The iPhone 3GS has also the personal hotspot feature (at least this is how it is called in the general menu). But it's limited only to bluetooth and USB connections. Which is good enough for connecting the iPads or other Mac notebooks to the Internet.

Yes i checked that yesterday and i can still use bluetooth. What i am wondering is though does 4.3 on ipad now allow bluetooth tethering? previously the only way to get tethering on ipad was to connect via wifi to jailbroken iphone.

With iphone 4's i can understand it wouldn't matter as the ipad would simply use the wifi connection provided by the iphone, but with the 3gs and ipad connection since it's over bluetooth, it would be software dependent on ipad side to allow making that connection.

Yes, the 4.3 on iPad allows bluetooth tethering. I use iPhone 3GS and iPad (both with 4.3 GM) and it works beautifully. I think the bluetooth connection is better for the battery life.

Not sure...
Can someone post a screenshot of the 4.2.1 lock screen?
Pressing the Home and Power buttons at the same time works on the lock screen to take a snapshot of it.

How do you install 4.3GM? I did a restore can't get it to work.

Thanks

I loaded the .ipsw file in iTunes 10.2 (Windows) by holding down SHIFT and clicking on CHECK FOR UPDATE button (not the Restore button). It prompted me to select the .ipsw file and did the firmware update. When it was done all my media (music, apps, photos, video etc...) were all there no problems.

Found a bug in the GM. Photos app pushes Camera Roll above Albums title and cannot be tapped. Workaround: access Camera Roll from Camera app

It works fine here.

Comparison of lock screens

It is bothering me so much that I've taken a screenshot from my phone and found 4.2's online to compare. I'm sure the background behind 'slide to unlock' has gone from transparent to almost opaque.

Thanks for that, Lagranger. Can you confirm if this is the correct MD5 for the iPhone 4 version?

Not only that, but the menu bar and the big time display became transparent. Basically it looks flip-flopped from what was opaque and transparent.

Now I'm confused, though, as I didn't notice if you mentioned which picture was which OS. Looking at my iPhone, on iOS 4.2.1, the unlock screen is the same as the left of your pictures: upper information bars are translucent and the bottom unlock bar is opaque, but just the unlock bar, the bar surrounding it is translucent.

Huh.

I posted this over on the iPad board, but thought I'd post it here also. I installed GM yesterday and immediately tried Home Sharing on my iPad. I have perhaps 100 movies stored in iTunes on my Mac. Every time I try Home Sharing on my iPad, it takes a very long time for it to display the list of movies. And as you scroll down the list, the titles are incorrect. Any suggestions? I was sure looking forward to this feature. Can someone else with an iPad and GM, post their results?

loving the gestures on the iPad that have to be unlocked with Xcode.

I will not be double clicking that button all the time now!:)

I had this problem with 4.3 beta 3 version. After upgrading to GM it works fine now.

Having watched the Keynote from the other day, I was disappointed to see no mention of the cool gestures that I previously seen on Youtube from people running early versions of iOS 4.3.

I'm talking about the 4-5 finger pinch for Home, swipe up for app tray, and swipe to the side to flick through running apps. Are we not getting them anymore?

The gestures are in the GM but you have to jump through some hoops to activate them. Scan back through this thread and you will find instructions. IMO - the gestures are the best feature of 4.3. Shame they won't be available to everyone and I hope they continue to work after the 11th.

Guess you did not read the post a few up from here...;)

Pretty easy to enable for the ipad, hardest part is downloading the large sized developer tools...

Everybody is saying that 4.3 is faster...

But isn't that always after you upgrade. After a couple of weeks it begins to slow down again...
