I know of no way to "fix" this, i have the same problem.

However this is caused only by the update to TW 2.0. Find an ipa of 1.0 and it works fine. I was lucky enough to still have mine saved

So, just to confirm, are you saying you yourself had updated to 2.0, got the error, and then reverted back to 1.0, and were able to get the app working again?

Because I'm getting the error I posted just above -- and I'm wondering if it's because I launched 2.0 first. If not, maybe there's some other troubleshooting I can do. I see in the comments here that this issue has affected people long before the 2.0 update came out, so I'm somewhat hopeful that I can at least get the 1.0 version working again.

Just install AppSync! :)

Wouldn't that only work if he's installing a cracked version of the TWCable TV app? AFAIK, that's never surfaced. (After all, it's a free app, and it's only been usable by TWC customers.)

It sounds to me like TomiY1 is unable to install his own iTunes authorized file of the 1.0 version of this app.

There are obvious reasons for this. For example, you can record the iPad's screen with it jailbroken.

So what? By the same logic I can record the iPad's screen on many other (far more compelling) video apps... HBOGo, ABC, Netflix, or even the iPad's own Video app as I watch iTunes rentals and purchases. Why don't those apps check for jailbreak, too?

Not to mention, I can also record this same live TV on my DVR (TiVo) and download it from there.

This is just needlessly restrictive. I'll figure out how to get the 1.0 version running again. And I'll wait hopefully for a hack to get the 2.0 version working, too. If not... meh. I just won't use this app. It's not like I used it all that often, anyway. Being restricted to my own home, with an authorized modem and TV service made it fairly redundant and useless. I already have "real" TV's in my home. And thankfully, I have plenty of other video sources to enjoy on the iPad.

You're assuming those apps won't do the same thing eventually. I would question that assumption.

unforunately its not on there...it would be nice if someone could come up with a fix for apps that check for Jailbroken devices...because it would majorly suck if other big time apps start doing the same thing :( i shouldnt have upgraded to v2.0 in the first place but who was I to know that they would block me from installing any version of their app! sigh...

This would be ideal. My companies checks for JB too on our iPhone and that prevents me from moving to the GOOD email client app and having to keep a iPhone and Blackberry :(

fail i was charged $50 from the company >.> and they charged it right through the credit card on my ipad..

wtf?

illegal much

ugh I really hope a developer comes up with a fix for this soon.. I'd be willing to pay.

It was would fantastic if they could trick it into thinking that its on your home wifi network so you can watch it anywhere too haha :)

Anyway, I'm as against piracy as anyone else but this is a legitimate reason to use the app cracker so everyone can access the older version of the app. It's not a paid for application so I don't feel that it would be wrong to do. I hope someone is willing to do this because I'm already on the latest version :(

This doesn't surprise me at all. What people need to keep in mind is that TW Cable is under intense pressure from the content providers, I believe they are even being sued by Viacom currently. Their whole basis for claiming that they can distribute cable tv content to iPads is their assurances that their app only works within a subscriber's home. Its how they can avoid paying extra money for the content because they assert that its no different from having another TV hooked up to their service in the residence.

They must know full well that if a person has root access to the device, its only a matter of time before someone devises a workaround so that they can watch that content from anywhere. It undercuts their whole legal defense in the lawsuit, so expect them to have zero sense of humor about it.

... i got email from them telling me to unjailbreak and they will be sending notice of my ipads ip...

C'mon, neither of these things happened, rnystery. This app has no In-App Purchasing, there's no $50 charge possible, and you didn't get any email that they would "be sending notice of [your] ipads ip" from them. You're lying and just causing additional anxiety and confusion in a thread that doesn't need it. Please stop trolling, thanks.

Yes. Perhaps in the resolution/concession talks of their fight against Viacom they offered to do their best to make sure the app wasn't "compromisable" in any way... and one way to do that, is to lock out jailbroken devices. (After all, not only would hackers try to get the app working outside of customers' own networks, but jailbroken devices can have screen recording utilities installed too, which could potentially pave the way for pirating of the content.)

I personally think it's stupid -- there are far easier, higher quality sources of content out there, already being "stolen"-- but I'm just guessing at TWC's rationale here.

Fingers crossed some enterprising JB developer comes up with an app that puts apps like this "back in jail" so they can work properly...

Update. Restoring to the 1.0 version of TWCable TV app worked for me. Finally.

At first, I was unable to use the restored app, as I kept getting the error: "The programming you have requested is only available when you are accessing this video service in your home, using a cable modem authorized by Time Warner Cable." I learned this is a commonly reported issue, even before this 2.0 update. Yes, I am at home, using my TWC modem. So this version of the app should work... unless TWC has "blacklisted" my IP (or cable modem MAC) address...? And so I called tech support (waiting on hold, escalating to various departments, getting disconnected, literally for hours and hours) and had them recreate my online login. Now, a few hours after that, I note that I'm able to use the app again. Still on 1.0 version, of course. Whatever, I'm relieved.

I note that some folks are reviewing the 2.0 update poorly on the iTunes Store. Some are complaining that it's showing them "not supported on 'jailbroken' devices" error -- even though they are NOT jailbroken! That is good news for us, actually, because it provides a little hope that TWC will issue a fix/update without this annoying check, if they can't get it right.

For now I am just content to have 1.0 working again. I have access to the same 60 channels I had before. Version 2.0 offers 101, however. Looking at the list here (and here) I note that these additional 41 channels aren't ones I'm going to be missing all that much.

Until things change, I'm going to stick with 1.0, and tell all jailbreakers who are TWCable customers to expressly avoid this 2.0 update.

I SSH'ed into my iPad, went into to the Applications folder, found this TWC TV app (the JB app "AppLinks" helps with this) and I renamed its iTunesMetadata.plist file. What this does is, it prevents notifications for future updates, which would have been very annoying. I'd have had to manually update every other app, unable to click "Update All" otherwise.

Fingers crossed Time Warner gets rid of this stupid anti-jailbreaking move in the newer versions... or some agile JB developer out there figures out a workaround so we can keep using and updating this app as it matures. If not, looks like we're sticking with 1.0 for as long as it continues to work. Because given the choice between this app and the jailbreak today, IMO, the jailbreak wins.

Now if this app is updated to work over any WiFi*, and not just my own home network's? I may have to reconsider that stance, because that'd be kinda cool. I'm finding less reasons to jailbreak my iPad than I do my iPhone, anyway. iOS 5's features (as well as its jailbreakability or lack thereof) will shake things up as well. We'll see how it goes.

*No, I won't be so bold as to wish it could possibly work over 3G... ;)

I think it works with all apps. I use app sync to beta test apps for developers without provisions.

Good to know, thanks. Still, it'd bother me if I *had* to do that, especially on an app I downloaded myself from the iTunes Store with my own iTunes authorization. Even if it is an older version, it should work. I know it worked for me.

TomiY1 , I wonder if deauthorizing and reauthorizing that computer will help? Hopefully this is a more generic (and fixable) issue with your iTunes Store authorization, and not something specific with the TWCable app.

You need to have OpenSSH installed on it or iFile. If you use OpenSSH, you will need to SSH over and run dpkg -i and then the file name.

actually the ip think was real but the $50 was fake

Worked for me, but it's telling me Live TV is unavailable and I must be connected to my home network, even though I already am :(

Are there any known fixes for this common problem, other than calling up like Fofer did?
