I think 10.7.1 has trashed the speed of SMB connections for me. I bought an Apple TV a few days ago, so I'm in the process of importing all my ripped movies and TV shows into iTunes (stored on a NAS) and organizing them. Particularly, in order to get them to appear in chronological (rather than most-recently-added) order on Apple TV each episode must have Episode Number information. Prior to 10.7.1 it took 2-3 seconds per episode over the network to add the episode number tag, now it takes upwards of a minute. I haven't done any other speed tests, but something is definitely up.

I want an efficient computer no gimmicks. Fast and sensible. Snow leopard/Leopard was an amazing achievement in operating systems. To go from that to this is just bonkers. :apple:

Sadly, I have to report that I had the wake from sleep connection issue again tonight. First time since I installed the update.

Hopefully they are still working on a fix.

For people who have the "grayed out audio" problem, have you tried this solution yet: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1212577/

I'm about to go back to Lion with a fresh install. If I still have this problem, I'll try this solution.

If you have an issue like what I posted in that thread, where the speaker icon is grayed out consistently or randomly on the menu bar where typing "sudo killall coreaudiod" fixes the issue (at least until the next restart), then following my directions will fix the problem, until a proper fix from Apple comes out.

All it does is essentially runs a script to restart the process each time you boot up.

I don't think Windows losers realize how childish they are trolling Mac forums.

It's like this:

As Mac users, we've got this hot girlfriend, and we're complaining that she doesn't paint her nails in colors we like.....

and then some schmuck Windows user comes by, who has never had a descent girlfriend, and tries to wow us that his girlfriend shaves her underarms, and that we should be impressed. Please.

What an awful world you live in. "Windows losers trolling Mac forums" hey? I seemed to have missed the part in the T&C when I signed up that says Macrumors is exclusively for those who use Apple software.

And I do love the:

Resorting to personal attacks? I guess you're a Windows user.

Hypocrisy much?

At least, he sounds happy.

I think he completely missed the friendly smiley at the end.. Tongue in cheek probably doesn't translate well online, but the hostility from someone posting a view that doesn't coincide with his world view was interesting..Maybe he should read this, and understand how transparent his argument was

Interesting article.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_...-address-prominent-lion-issues/#ixzz1VK68Vnbi

Evidently they didn't do anything to Wi-Fi in the 10.7.1 patch.

Yeah I don't agree with that article at all. The only issue i was having with Lion was my wifi randomly dropping and being flakey right after waking from sleep and this update fixed both of those issues. Pretty sure Apple wouldn't mention wifi in the release notes if they didn't do something to address it. Also remember, just because it didn't change any wifi files as he said, it doesn't mean they didn't change something else that fixed the problem.

Now that I am running 10.7.1, my safari seems to crash whenever I watch videos or live video streams! The whole laptop & OS crashes, with the spinning beach ball thing, and I have no choice but to manually force restart the system.

If it's flash videos that you are watching, then updating flash player to 11 beta 2 might help: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11.html

Otherwise I experience lots of complete system freezes as you described. Most of the times they seem to be caused by mouse clicking into an already half-hanging app (like e.g. Mail which has become such a stubborn beast in Lion).

I'm here, no crashes :D

Spot the mac... And which one is yours.?

Seems the upgrade from 10.7 caused System Preferences to slow and allot of other things or possibly deleting the preferences files after the upgrade did it *shrugs*

Working all fine now after doing a clean install of Lion, no more problems..

I am experiencing a major bug in the video drivers. Last night, I was playing Killing Floor (a Steam game) with a friend and it ran perfectly. Today, after the update, the game crashed several times, textures not loading, artifacts and such crap. It only works well after putting the game on Low settings, while it worked fine before on High.

Try this. It fixed similar problems I was having on a MBP with WoW:

1. Go to /System/Library/Extensions and find AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext.

2. Select it, and do 'Get Info'. Change the extension from .kext to .disable (you will be prompted for an admin password). nb. Don't just rename it in the finder view - you have do it it from 'GetInfo'.

3. Reboot.

4. Go to System Preferences, Energy Saver, and set the 'Display Sleep' to 1 minute. Wait 1 minute until the display sleeps. (I'm not sure if this step is really necessary, but do it anyway !)

5. Set the 'Display Sleep' value back to what it was. You problem will be gone. (hopefully)

To undo the changes, just go back into finder, rename 'AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.disable' to AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext (from Get Info), and reboot.

The thinking behind this is that the graphics power management 'turns down' the graphics processor to save battery, and because of maybe a bug it does this even when you're gaming. Disabling it prevents this.

Please let us know how you get on...

on the positive side i can now output audio over my mini displayport-> hdmi connector (as it should)

on the negative side: connecting to my old trusted external HP w2207h still doesn't work: on native resolution i have black screen with a little bit flickering of the image... so it's useless
and if i switch to lower resolutions it all works perfectly including the sound... except everything is blurry ;)

absolutely ridiculous display drivers

My 2011 MacBook Pro with 10.7.1 is still dropping the Purdue wireless network like nobody's business. My iPhone uses it without issue.

Okay, so from what I'm reading here, I need to hold off on Lion for another update or six? I remember the trepidation of taking the leap from OS9 to OS X way back when (I remember the misguided leap of faith when switching to System 7... ugh. That took weeks to fix.).

I kind of like OS 10.6, and I like my functionality just like it is. I'm not reading a lot of really glowing positives on Lion. Am I wrong??

No, you're not wrong.

And I like my Leopard (10.5.8) the way it is. That update came from the original 10.5.3 that was pre-installed on my new/replacement Mac. The previous Mac (a 2002 iMac) was 10.3, and before that Mac it was probably System 4.

At this point, the only reason I might need to upgrade would be if my banking required a change.

Thanks.

I was having he spinning beachball on waking and black screen for a few minutes on my late 2009 imac. Then started getting messages telling me "your OS X start up disc is full ....etc" when absolutely no way it was. I just repaired pemissions as disc utility found loads of errors, now its back to working like a dream and no more black screen on waking back to instantly on on waking.
