just a question, my iphone is coming tomorow (god forbid ups) i wanted to know if you think i should restore the phone as soon as i get it or not? this seems to be a temporary fix?

Time Since last full charge
Usage 2 hours, 15mins
Standby 5 hours, 12 minutes

Currently at 64%

I'm very unhappy with the battery life....but are my stats "good" or "bad" ? Just curious...

Why are you unhappy??? It's still at 64%, so you'll get at more than double those numbers.
That's the standard time that apple quotes.

Guess I'm unhappy because this is much worse than my 4 was. And double those numbers would be nowhere near what I see some other people posting (over a day of standby and 8ish hours of use )

No complaints about my (C37G) 4S — I'm using mine constantly (new toy syndrome) and getting up to two full days between charges. Much better performance than I ever got from my 3GS.

Just curious has there been found to be correlation between serial number and battery life?

No, and judging by the inconsistent serial number and battery life. Issues I am going to venture and say it is most likely a software problem to hopefully be fixed in a future update. Some people have replaced their phones and report that the battery life is much better but I still don't think this is hardware related it is probably different software settings that they set up on their new phone versus the old phone.

After 1 week or so of bad battery life, I'm starting to see some real improvement. As you can see from the photo, I'm at 65% and I've left WiFi & BT running. This is also a little under-reporting since my usage reset after I sync'ed this morning for a few minutes. The phone has actually been running all night.

Hi everybody out there.

What you're think, are those values good, , or normal?

Using time consists of 5% 3G (email & surfing) and 95% playing (Tiger Woods 12 PGA).

= Standby: 21hrs 52min; Using Time 4hrs 43min; 4% left

TIA

I see a lot of people claiming their iPhone4 battery life is way better than iPhone4S. Curious as to what qualifies as "good" battery life? Seems like its mostly based off people's subjective memories.

Not saying there isn't a battery issue here. It does seem like for some users something is happening, but maybe for others it is fine and they are just monitoring it closer than what they would have normally or playing with it more since it is new.

Is there any controlled environment to compare the iphone4 and 4s to see how much of a difference battery drains?

I don't think your's is defective by any means, but i guess I'm the least qualified to say. I did get well over 10 hrs. Heres my results. It Shows almost 2 days standby and almost 13hrs usage. I will say its probably more like 10 hrs though because i did listen to almost 2 hours of music. But played jetpack game and need for speed too. Again I have everything turned on, everything, except bluetooth and exchange. Best results i have had yet.

man that to me is outstanding....
what do you have on and what do you have off....
how many days are you getting between charges...

Certainly couldn't hurt since the phone won't have any data on it out of the box. A few people have reported that a complete restore improves battery performance (I have yet to decide if it's worth the gigantic pain in the ass). I would definitely avoid restoring from a backup of a previous iPhone though.

mine is lasting pretty normal. same as my late iPhone 4. anyway i don't see myself worrying about battery, since i have a charger every where i am. at work, at home, at grandma's house etc etc. and a belkin fm transmiter-charger for car, so I'm pretty well covered :p

**Settings > Location > Services > System Services > Turn Off Time Zone Settings and Local iAds***

This has improved my battery life A LOT, i was reading that there is a bug in Time Zone Settings that is using gps all the time.

One day of testing and my battery is doing probably twice as good.

Been averaging 5 hrs usage with maybe 12 hrs of standby, just above what my 3GS was getting, not too thrilled that its not a big improvement.

Update (again)

I'm not sure what's happening, but the replacement that was returning really great battery life, just died a few hours ago. Lucky for me, I have an Apple store just two miles from home. Although I didn't have an appointment, I just walked in and got lucky.

The genius bar was slow. They gave it to the head of the group, he's the same one that replaced the previous phone. This time he didn't even take it in the back as before. He simply replaced it for me.

Since I always like an excuse to go to the Apple store, and it's under warranty I guess I will be doing this routine until they issue a fix. :) No worries.

Looks like the 4S is cursed!

How was your normal use battery life though?
Can i get mine replaced for getting 4 hours of average usage?

Not sure about all the scientific stuff being bandied about, but I'll offer this:

I bought my iPhone 4S on Friday afternoon. At that time I had a fully charged iPhone 4. I set that aside and as of this writing it is sitting at 74%

Meanwhile, my iPhone 4S, charged today at 3:30pm Pacific, is currently at 72%. Checked e-mail a few times, listened to music for an hour while walking (left at 95%, came back at 92%), but other than that haven't used it all that much. Just sitting here idle. It does have the notifications on though.

you can get that numbers too...just play music....

Seems similar to what I'm getting from mine

Not enirely happy as it is not a major improvement on my 4, but I guess with a dual core and siri,it will have to do.

Not sure why anyone expects better life than the 4. As hardware and software gets more intensive, battery life is going to decrease.

My friend's 4S has pretty bad battery life too. Barely able to get a day or two out of it. The old 4 managed to get more like 4-5 days on a single charge.
