Horrible for me to guys, especially over the previous evening. Went to bed at 2:30am on 100%. Woke up at about 9:45/10am and iPhone was dead. Charged it up for 5/10mins to find out it had ran out of battery at 9:30am. I had nearly every setting off I could think of except for 2/3 push notifications from Echofon/Facebook even though I had no new msgs (I have no friends ;) ), and a radio app I listen to while I'l sleeping.

It's really bugging me now. Was only dropping about 10-15% max with the radio on iOS4 and it was dropping to about 50/40% since I updated, first time last night my iPhone completely went!. I'm charging as we speak but it's doing it slowly, almost as if something is draining battery behind the scenes

My wife's new 4S dropped 18% in standby mode in just 10 minutes.

There is something horribly wrong. :(

Wow, imagine a couple of years from now - battery life will be like 30 minutes or something

(facepalm)

So you think as everything becomes more intensive and the battery stays the same, you should see an improvement? Really???

Seems similar to what I'm getting from mine

Not enirely happy as it is not a major improvement on my 4, but I guess with a dual core and siri,it will have to do.

You phone was plugged in since full charge- so does that not invalidate the time you are getting?

I was being sarcastic. Multiple core processors were introduced because they are more energy efficient than single core ones. The processor in the 4S isn't the problem. It's either down to faulty batteries or something in the battery management.

Since my battery dies way too quickly I took a shot at downloading Boost Magic (99 cent app).

Normally I wouldn't do something like this but it has pretty decent reviews and I felt desperate. So far it seems to have made a little improvement. 5 hours off the charger and at 88% with about an hour and a half of usage.

I don't know if that's considered good or bad relatively, but seems better than yesterday for me

Placebo or not, so far so good.

How many people experiencing problems restored their 4S from an iPhone 4 backup?

I set my iPhone 4S as a new device for a while (because iTunes deleted my old iPhone backup ) and it didn't seem to have any battery issues. Then I found a iPhone 4 backup that I saved on my external hard drive and restored using that backup. Since then, I check my phone every now and then to see that it drops a percent of battery without even doing anything. It's like every few minutes is another percent. I heard some people restoring from scratch and not seeing any battery issues after that.

Here's what I did. When I got the phone there was no configuration to do, it was already up and running.

I backed up my data and nuked the phone, reset everything. It comes up and I answer the few questions and get the desktop. I plug it into the computer and do a new phone setup, then drag all my crap back over.

So far it still drains pretty quickly when in active use (looking at screen, derping about doing things) but standby is much better.

Note that itunes didn't download new firmware or anything, it looks like it's still running everything that came standard on the phone. So the only thing that may have changed were settings added to the firmware at the factory. That presumably was all zeroed out when I reset the phone.

Go figure. Looking forward to the next point patch to see if that improves things any.

I went to the apple store on monday and was told to reset the phone.

I came home, updated the phone via itunes and completey rebuilt

Tested and all great for a number of days

Then last night it dropped from 100% to flat in 4 hours in standby mode with nothing running.

Went to the apple store today and they confirmed to wait for 5.01 and its a known problem

As I posted on the 21st of Oct, Apple have confirmed its a fault

They still didn't allow me to return the handset

Hmmm... My battery said 95% after a few minutes of use. I powered my 4S down, and a few minutes later when I turned it back on it said it was at 98% (closer to what I'd think it would be at with light use).

Also, I would keep "Diagnostic & Usage Data" disabled, but I figured it may help Apple fix this problem. It isn't an issue with the hardware, but iOS 5.0 itself. Location services, iCal/Notifications, Mail polling, bugs in calculations, etc - it could be multiple things.

My phone is full of entries like these (hundreds, all WiFi/networking logs):

First iPhone is a 4s. Coming from a Palm Pre. My battery life is fantastic....last Thursday I was over 27 hours standby and four hours usage with 40% left. But on Friday I ran down to 35% over 12 hours.

And I know exactly why. On Thursday I was either at home or at the office (i.e. wifi continuously). On Friday I was in an area where I was forced roaming. Even around town, if I'm not on wifi my battery life suffers because of the horrible network from Sprint, with low signal srength in lots of places around town and snail-like data access that is pathetic.

I am not saying that's the problem with everyone, but I would suggest that if your battery is dying rapidly and you are constantly using wifi and not 3G, you have a problem that I don't have.

I went to bed with 100% and woke up with 97%. This is with dead everything upset on. That's not so bad IMO as I'm the forgiving of mortal who plugs in their gadgets to bidding when I'm not using them. And with iOS5/Wifi Sync, it's alter much hortatory to do so.

When I'm statesman bothered active protection fire, patently I present take any preventive measures to achieve reliable it doesn't die on me parcel in the cutting of abstraction. So far, I'm impressed with my iPhone 4S's shelling animation. Liken that to my old phone which lasted roughly an minute and a half using the incredibly laggard internet, and it's sure an status.

Siri still needs work.

Battery Saga

I ordered my 4s from Apple during intro. the battery when fully charged drained 15-20% per hr with no activity at all and all options turned on. I turned GPS and Push notifiers off and no improvement. I returned to the Apple store's Goofus Bar and they said they were all running that way, although I knew my co worker's was not doing that so I asked for a new phone. I was given one reluctantly and the only difference is I set up original one using my 3g backup as instructed and set up the replacement one as new and synched with Itunes for songs, apps, etc.
The new one is much much better. It drops maybe 2% per hour with no use. Maybe 8 hrs over night I lose 5-10%
I dont know whether the battery itself was bad on iphone 1 or whether setting it up as new did something different in the settings to allow it to run what I would describe as "expected".

Earlier today I plugged my iPhone 4S in to charge. This is what I had up until that point:

Usage: 6 Hours
Standby: 2 Days

This is with half brightness, auto brightness off, bluetooth off, pretty much everything else on. Usage included using lots of apps, web browsing, youtube, some email, texting, iMessaging, downloading apps and updates, music, camera, one phone call and Siri a few times.
