I hate rumors like this, only because I do want to sell my iPad 2 and buy whatever new iPad comes out next year, but if there are two coming out, now I have uncertainty as to when to do that.

See, AT&T made it easy for me this year when trying to decide whether to upgrade from 4 to 4S--they said I had to pay a $50 fee plus another $18 in early upgrade fees. So I took a pass on the 4S and decided to just enjoy the new features of iOS5.

But my iPad I love even more than my iPhone and have decided that I want to upgrade whenever I can. It's my favorite device in the whole world. It's not tied to a contract so I can do that whenever I want. But if they're releasing 2 in one year, I'm skipping the first one

I hope they also introduce some new awesome adaptors, externals and dongles for the thinner machines with less ports and features. I'm so exited and ready to drop a lot of money on new adaptors. Mmmm, adaptors, doesn't everybody love adaptors? I can't wait to carry a bag of adaptors together with my notebook. That 15" MacBook Air is going to look so cool with some adaptor, a hub and an external drive hanging from it, like a fancy aluminium spider. Come on Apple, bring on the adaptors! :)

I think there is still a need for a full powered, full featured laptop like the pro and merging the two lines is apt to confuse consumers. I agree, the "pro" could drop the optical drive, but it must have a full array of internal ports as it currently does. No TB to whatever Dongles!. That defeats the point of a full featured laptop.

well, my comment is wishful I guess, but I believe there's no need to drop any of the existing ports on larger laptops, there's enough space for TB/FW/USB/SD/whatever (I personally need FW).

All I wish for is that they adapt Air's design on all laptops with 30 days stand-by. the bigger screen is, larger case is needed and that can accommodate larger battery, more ports, better cooling (for powerful CPU/GPU) - I think with current technology it is doable.

Hopefully with the option of matte screens, or at least using this new "invisible" glass:

‘Invisible glass’ could reduce display glare, fails as food-in-teeth mirror

Apple, please, it is a health and productivity issue. Thank you.

I always thought the whole screen issue was a Jobs thing. I'll bet non-glare happens now.

The MacBook Air, again shaving off some of the screen frame, the Keyboard in my opinion is the problem, because you can only make the keys so small before people complain.

the frame around screen is there for a reason, for the same reason as on iPad for that matter, so you don't have finger prints all over your screen - they could just use black frame on MBA, picture looks better with black frame around the screen, it pops out more

a new ipad and a new iphone? no kiddin ... im SHOCKED

oh and the silver bezel of the air looks like crap btw, i prefer the black of the pro

just stop please... while your ahread...

I down-voted your for saying "your" when you meant "you're", but to be honest, I wouldn't mind if the iPhone design stays the same for a long time, it's a thing of beauty.

And what's more, I have an important job that Jonny Ive could spend his time on. I'm looking to buy a lemon juicer, but the ones on the market are crap. That Allesi tripod design is nice, of course, but it has nowhere to catch the seeds. I think the kitchen in general is somewhere that would benefit from an Apple touch.

But yeah, *you're

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

That was sarcasm. MacRumors just had to get another piece in there on the "iPhone 5."

My wish would be: user accessible imac, (easily done with back hatch or similar) with easily replaceable SSD/ SATA HDD, with the ability to add drives of your choice(trim support for these included, without having to run 3rd party fixes). Would be nice to add better graphics, but realise this is not going to happen in what is essentially a large laptop. And of course the option for matt screen. Notice the theme here OPTIONS.

Failing that it would be nice to have an i7 based tower, at a reasonable price point. Pros need dual socket xeon's, ecc, workstation class boards, etc. Prosumers dont necessarily need all them features but would like the CHOICE of an easily upgradeable tower, without the hastle of building a hackintosh.

I like allot of Apple hardware and love the OS, but hate the way they dont give you choice, its there way or not at all ,everything is just geared up to profit, seems to me they couldnt give a stuff about the end users, especially the Professional end, i.e. Final Cut fiasco, xserve ditched with no notice, and the rumour which allot of people fear could be true of the demise of the MP.

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see their PC lineup consisting ONLY of, merged Air/Pro laptops, the imac, and mini, not counting the ipad cos it really is just a toy

Conspiracy theory: if people believe this, they wouldn't buy Mac on the last quarter, the most profitable one.

The only problem with trying to kill the 13" Pro is that it's one of the better sellers in the lineup and with Ivy Bridge Apple will finally be able to deliver a quad core 13" which will give separation between the 13" Air and Pro.

I suspect it's a best seller based on price alone. I have considered a 13" MBP simply because it is cheaper than the 15" and more upgradable than the Air. The problem is that the 13" MBP is kind of aimless right now. It doesn't have the processing power or graphics power available in the larger MBPs, while it doesn't offer the light weight and portability of the MBA. The display resolution isn't even as good as the MBA, which makes no sense on a Pro model.

Sure there is no "need" to drop the existing ports, but the question becomes what does Apple value more: offering a full featured laptop that is slim but not super slim, light but not feather weight, or to just offer a larger MBA.

I think we agree MBP and MBA serve very different markets, but it's unclear to me whether the pro market is part of Apple's long term product road map. I think it would be suicidal if it did totally abandon pro b/c consumers are fickle, and every company should be so lucky to have a "fall back" clientele like Apple has in the pro market. But I guess we'll just have to grab the popcorn and nervously watch how all this unfolds.

oh, a vague rumour that encompasses many devices... not a particularly useful rumour, now is it? Although it does feed the imagination.

I could see a number of aesthetic changes, but who knows what exactly Apple has planned for us.... Some major changes are pretty much guaranteed with the MBP, I think. And iPhone. We'll have to see about everything else.

I'm wondering what kind of drastic changes they may (or may not) make. Removal of optical drives from some systems is quite possible. I do think they'll be changing some of the ports. It would be foolish of them not to include USB 3... but I wonder if they'll include more than 2 measly USB ports on the laptops?

This kinds of rumours are funny, they get the mind going, but really they are quite baseless rumours... we'll have to wait until we see leaked parts and whatnot :)

I agree, the "pro" could drop the optical drive, but it must have a full array of internal ports as it currently does. No TB to whatever Dongles!. That defeats the point of a full featured laptop.

Also (in my dreams because I know this isn't the direction Apple is going) I'd like to see the MBP have the ability for 2 standard 2.5" or 1.8" SSDs (use the space where optical went for the other one) -- none of that proprietary or soldered stuff in the Air. That is fine for that machine, but a pro machine needs to be more user updatable and less disposable.

There is. Hence the name "MacBook PRO." I think a lot of people who do the basic tasks that can get by without the extra juice of the Pro lineup just don't think that through. I'm using a white MacBook at work and OH THE HUMANITY. When my colleagues with MacBook Pros made within the past year watch me do something, they cringe at how long some things take.

I'm curious about this rumored 15" MBA, but I would have to see the benchmarks before saying "that's what I need." I need a crapload of RAM and could probably use the horsepower of the i5 or i7. I don't need an optical drive most of the time, so I could see that being dropped as optional. You lighten my notebook enough and I just throw one of those in the bag. I have literally used it once or twice at work.

I'm perfectly happy with iPhone 4/4S design, industrial, clean and size is just right. I don't want larger phone

well we all need a larger screen.... cause its time to have something larger to do all this cool stuff on..

I wouldn't mind if the iPhone design stays the same for a long time, it's a thing of beauty.

I down-voted your for saying that^^^:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Competition is good. Keeps Apple on its toes and re-inventing itself.

In the long run, Android and other competitors will make us all get better Apple products.

Fingers crossed that the Infa-Red receiver will come back to the MacBook Air sooner than later. It makes me laugh how Apple now justify their 'Apple Remote' as being a Pro product and not worthy of the consumer MBA.

by 'we all' you mean yourself and few fandroids? there are good reasons for the screen size as it is - operating your phone with one hand is the most obvious one. also you want to buy a man-purse for your phone? i prefer to put mine in the pocket either on my jeans or shirt

I switched recently to Apple for simplicity, integration and reliability, not the greedy forced obsolescence, constant upgrading and connector incompatibility of the Windows world. I like my iPad 2, iPhone 4s, iMac and iCloud. I have this uneasy feeling that Apple could drift into that kind of whacky Windows consumer experience. Hope I'm wrong.

I wouldn't worry if I were you. The company will continue to innovate and refresh its lineup but the great thing about Apple is that it's older models still work perfectly many years after purchase. Unlike PC world that simply gets slower due to malware, bugs and non-backward integrated third party software updates. Enjoy your experience and don't chase the spec unless you need it

New and updated in 2012 – or later … or never

Drop the iPod classic, call iPod touch simply iPod, add GPS(!!!), add 128GB option.
Maybe this new iPod could come with even bigger screen than iPhone 5 - differentiating it as more of a dedicated gaming and navigation device?

Introduce Apple TV app in the Mac App Store - enabling any Mac to become a true Apple TV, with AirPlay and so on.

Merge MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

The front side of the next iPhone will be a screen only, the home button is either moved to the side or the back. It might finally ditch the dock connector in favor of Thunderbolt (plus micro USB adaptor, at least in the EU).

The iPod Classic and Touch merge into the iPod. A possibly larger and more powerful A6 variant will resurface as the iPlay or iPod Play. The iPod Shuffle and Nano merge into the iWatch. Apple hires fashion designers to develop iWear, including iGoggles.

There’s wireless recharging introduced with the resurrected MacBook (what was the Macbook Pro) and iBook (with iOS and A6 processor), both much resemble the current MacBook Air. They support portrait mode, as does the disc-drive-less iMac. All their Magic Keyboard key tops are touch sensitive and work as a large virtual trackpad, there’s no separate touch area anymore and the iMac comes bundled without a Magic Trackpad or Mouse.

The all new iDock or iDisplay consists of a large screen (think Thunderbolt Display) and a keyboard as described above. You can slide in an iPhone or iPod and it will use that as its “brain” – that’s the first iOS desktop. This accessory might come from a third party manufacturer instead.

The iDesktop or iTable is basically a quad-sized iPad or a horizontal iMac Touch that is supposed to lay stationary on your desk – it may come with an iPen, if they finally accept that Steve Jobs was wrong about stiluses. This comes with iOS and may instead be the next iMac, if the current one is unified with the Mac Pro and becomes simply the Mac, because it runs OS X. In even larger sizes, called iBoard or iPanel, it can alternatively be used as a whiteboard (and blackboard) replacement. The incredibly huge iWall is in active development.

The TV set will be known as iTube or iVision and comes with a revolutionary remote control iRemote, cleverly combining Wii, Kinect and Siri features with iPen and touch gestures.

The iPad gets a little brother, the iTray or iTab. On personal initiative by Tim Cook, Apple launches an iPad on Campus initiative by making it eligible for academic discounts, tightly incorporating iTunes U and introducing / promoting interactive textbooks. They’re synced with iBoards for easy collaboration. There are rumors about a special ePad, but it never surfaces.

There will be devices in every of the following (approximate) screen diameter size classes:
  • 1" iWatch
  • 2½" iPod, iPhone Mini
  • 4" iPhone
  • 5½" iPlay
  • 7" iTab/iTray/iPad Mini
  • 9" iPad
  • 11" iBook Mini
  • 13" iBook, MacBook Mini
  • 15" MacBook, iBook Pro
  • 17" MacBook Pro
  • 19" iDesktop
  • 22" iMac/Mac Mini
  • 27" iMac/Mac, iDock/iDisplay
  • 32" iDock/iDisplay Pro, iTable/iDesk
  • 37" iTube/iVision
  • 42" iTube/iVision
  • 47" iBoard/iPanel

Operating system also advance and won’t merge. With iOS 6 and OS X 8 coupled devices can form seamless virtual and shared screens. To achieve that better they sense their relative positions to each other. The camera app learns new tricks regarding augmented reality and automatic scanning, it’s capturing in low-resolution low-power mode all the time when the screen or microphone is turned on. With eye-tracking this enables native (pseudo) 3D screens for single-user devices – welcome Core3D.

iTunes loses its App Store and synchronization features

Bluetooth Smart devices will be fun and, more importantly, useful, too.
