Well, this really did start with the announcement of the iPhone, where they referred to its OS as "OS X", sans "Mac".
They should have dropped the "X" instead. Mac OS.
Maybe they'll start calling them iBooks..oh wait, nevermind.![]()
will be written as XiOS (11 in Roman numerals)...
*Maybe* XIOS, but I'm betting on XiOS.
Well, dropping "Mac" I guess is better, than, say...
"Mac OS X Home Premium Edition 64 bit"

OS X on the iPad in the future?
Oh everyone needs to stop being babies it's just a name.
Eventually there will be no difference between Mac OS X and iOS.
My guess is... when they roll around to OS XI (11), it will have merged with iOS into one operating system.
I agree actually
Mac OS 10.8
iOS 5.1
Clean and to the point.
[...] Im running Lion right now in a user account (like youre supposed to), I have a terminal window open and logged in to my admin account so I can run ColdFusion Development Server. Im running a customized install of Apache 2 & MySQL with virtual hosts set up. I have a virtualized Window XP and Windows 7 install running, both in full screen, also with modified host files. Ive got two SSH sessions going to live servers. I just created a password protected zip from the command line. I usually have to connect to a VPN for secure access to servers and screen share a Windows NT install to nudge the SVN server when it fails to execute a post-commit hook.
I have a sneaking suspicion most of the grousing about the iOS-ification of OS X is coming from people whove never so much as opened Terminal.
Especially because the "X" really has no meaning at this point. Just call it Mac OS.
Mac OS / Mountain Lion

I disagree only because I think they're trying to open an avenue to run OSX on something that isn't a Mac the same way they used iOS to run on phones, iPads, and iPods (touches and a subset on the nanos). Maybe an Apple TV (hate the rumors but stay with me) will run OSX instead of iOS...

Dropping "Mac" from the OS name opens up the possibilities for licensing. Only a Mac would be a Mac.
Just a thought.
I wont post the Big Brother pic but...really this is the future Apple is heading toward:
OSX? Meaning OS 10? "Hi, I'm using Operating System number 10"...?
iCal is "Calendar", iChat is "Message", adresses is "Contacts" (ok this one doesn't change much) ?
Gatekeeper is the a closed ecosystem that will prevent all basic users to download plugins, apps, packages, outside of the Appstore by default ?
I've never seen such a dumbing down of any OS ever.
