so we basically just fax it to them? and how will they know that the proof of purchase i sent is from me? and which phones' imei they correspond to?
No, when you contact them to request the unlock, and if they ask for proof of purchase, they will give you the instruction on how to fax it in. It'll need your name/number/imei and the case number.

That doesn't require too much thinking, does it? Copy it and on this new piece of paper write your casenumber, email en rep you spoke with. Did that for myself, though I didn't recieve any confirmation to date.

With faxes it's generally a good idea to have a coversheet which states whose attention you want. You can also put any other information requested on that sheet.

Called ATT about my iPhone 4 which I received as a gift. It was purchased off-contract and never activated on an ATT line. After some trouble, I got a case submitted based on an old terminated account.

Now, I've received an email asking to fax proof of purchase. Unfortunately, that was never given to me and the gifter has told me it's long gone since they gave me the phone about a year and a half ago.

I called ATT again and they told me without proof of purchase, they cannot give me the unlock. I've called again and submitted a new case, but if the result is the same, does anyone have any tips? Or would anyone with an active account be willing to help me get this phone unlocked for a fee? It'd be very much appreciated.
i have an account with at&t, how could i help you?

Hopefully those idiots at AT&T are too stupid to do anything about it and just push everything through...

One thing that seemed to help was that I was as polite as I could be when talking with the representatives. It seemed to help with getting some good will (the representative who unlocked my iPhone 4 in particular seemed to go above and beyond to get my phone unlocked). If you treat them as sub-human, there's no reason for them to help you beyond what the letter of the policy dictates.

Believe me i've called them over 10 times. I'm nice to ppl who are nice back to me. There are some workers who really don't give a **** and sound like they hate their jobs and wanna kill themselves when they get home. I had a couple of nice people that were competent but their policy seems very arbitrary and irregular.

Anyone with an AT&T account wanna help me request these imei's for unlock? i basically need a case number and ticket number so i can send in a proof of purchase...

You live in Romania... The US government can't do anything to you :p

Eight day wait for unlock???

Using suggestions posted on this forum, I contacted AT&T and provided all the info required. Nice lady. Took her some time to do whatever it is she had to do, but I hung on and provided numbers as requested.

Bottom line: My old 3GS will be unlocked by April 18!!!

That's nuts. I restored, etc., and it is still locked -- I think. I cannot tell, and I did not get a "congratulations" message on the phone nor an email into my associated account. I am also showing no service -- other that wifi -- on the phone.

Any thoughts on this? How will I know it's unlocked?
