From what I've collected, you should connect your phone to itunes with a sim inserted other than ATT. If the phone has been unlocked, itunes will display a message to let you know and the phone will go through the activation process. It seems that yours hasn't been unlocked just yet. Hope this helps.

I bought my iPhone 4 on eBay last summer, and requested an unlock this past sunday.

Today, I got an email denying my unlock request.
It said, "The service commitment for this iPhone has not been completed"

I called AT&T, and when they entered my IMEI number in, they said my phone had never been linked to any AT&T contract, and that I was eligible for an unlock. They resent the unlock request.

I like how AT&T blatantly lied to me, saying that I haven't fulfilled my AT&T contract, despite being a T-Mobile customer.

We'll see what happens.... :roll eyes:

EDIT 4/13/12:
Got a confirmation email today saying I was eligible for unlock.
Restored, and now I have an unlocked iPhone!!!

Called ATT about this. My iPhone 4 was bought off craigslist and was on ATT under the previous owner only.

Called ATT dialling 1-800-331-0500, pressing 1, pressing 0. I told the person I didn't have an active ATT account and asked about iPhone unlocking. I told them that my aunt (from abroad) gave me the phone when she discovered it was locked to ATT. I told the guy I was planning on studying abroad this summer and was wondering if they could unlock it.

He asked my name, which I gave. Asked for a phone number to call back in case we got disconnected, which I gave. Asked for an email address, which I gave. He asked for my IMEI, which I also gave. He said he created a ticket/case for me and would hear from ATT within 5-7 business days.

I dunno if it's legit or if he's going through the motions...not at home right now so I can't plug in my iPhone. But we'll see, I guess. Here's hoping to see an email from ATT/Apple...

I requested two unlocks for two different phones yesterday; one around 6PM, the other around 9PM. In both cases I got the email confirming the unlock within minutes of closing the chat session

weird, i request for iPhone 2G/3G yesterday 7AM PST, no email and nothing...

frustrating, the entire thing.

Only thing I can wish, let us all of us enter chat/call their support until ATT and APPLE comes with better unlocking strategy.

DAMN, unlock all the iPhone 2G and 3G. They are sold few years back.

I had called on Sunday morning to request the unlock on my 3GS. Was told the 16th like many others who called that day. I just got the unlock email this afternoon. :)

I am wondering if we restore phone in dfu mode with "**** + restore" to a custom firmware, it will be communicating and taking unlock code via i tunes? you know not to risk anything like baseband ( 4.10.01):D

There's no code.

It would have been easier. I remember calling up AT&T, long time ago, to unlock my iPhone 1G after its contract was up. They just gave me a 4-digit unlock code instantly.

Now, when I pop in my overseas SIM card onto my 3GS (for which I contacted AT&T on Sunday to request unlock), it does ask me for a 4 digit code. I guess I will wait for the email from AT&T to proceed with the iTunes restore.

You sure it was an unlock code? Sounds more like you got a SIM pin or PUK code. The iphone unlock codes are 40-bits long and generally itunes sends it to the baseband during the activation process. 40-bits would be a hell of a lot longer than 4 digits.

I was never asked for any code from any SIM (international or not) in any iPhone except in the cases where the SIM was locked.

I just got a call from a 1800 when I was about to try again. They completed my unlock process! WOHOOOOO!

Hooked on to iTunes and got the congrats!

I got that email this afternoon, but did not get the "Congratulations" message after restoring. Has anyone else run into an issue like this? I told a friend of mine overseas to go ahead and update, as Apple and AT&T both said it should unlock, but if it goes wrong like this over there as well, she'll be stuck without a phone!
