Fixed my Mail Problem

I was unable to send mail from the mail app nor any app using Apple's mail to send messages. The update resolved the problem.

I upgraded my 2008 macbook pro. After upgrade, isight can be seen in system information but none of the apps facetime/ichat/skype etc are showing video.
I get a "no camera available" error message.

I reset the SMC and tried other things. But no luck. Heading to apple store!!

I am having the same problem and have noticed in the console logs that after trying to use the iSight Camera VDCassistant is crashing then respawning then crashes again and that goes on adinfinitum cause a massive spike in cpu and need to reboot

tried the combo etc others seem to have the same problem

Just had a major kernel panic I had never seen before since upgrading to Mavericks. I had missed a FaceTime audio call, clicked on the notification which opened a window saying if I wanted to make a call. Clicked "call", as soon as the other person answered the whole operating system crashed. Dunno if anyone can decipher this:

My Finder windows now retain my View options from reboot to reboot instead of all of them reverting to defaults. Maybe I can start using View as Icons again.

Positions of some files and folders on the Desktop still wander to different monitors after a reboot, though.

No, as an immediate security patch, not a wait and bundle it with other fixes patch. This shouldn't have required four days more testing than the iOS version, especially given the simplicity of the mistake.

How long have you been patching and maintaining operating systems? Just want to know what your base of experience is for that opinion.

God, I hope it fixes the most annoying Safari bug where it loads a random page without finishing typing the URL.

Is that a bug or a feature? It's been doing that for, what, a year or so now?

If it wasn't for the convenience of iCloud bookmarks and iCloud Keychain offsetting the annoyance of this dumb feature, I'd have abandoned Safari long ago.

Maybe it's Apple's attempt to rig browser usage stats in favour of Safari, by boosting the number of page views?

You know what I'm happy not to see?

Those special builds for the late 2013 mbp and mp.

The ones for 10.9.1 made it really hard to make a bootable usb installer for those machines.

So it looks like the full installer on the mac app store for 10.9.2 will be good for this. Can't verify this though because I don't have one of those machines.

Has anyone tried this yet on those machines? I'd be interested to know if it works.

The Mac App Store allowed me to download the full 10.9.2 installer and Diskmaker X worked just fine with it. I'm currently backing up to Time Machine as we speak and I'll report back later tonight once I've finished wiping it and reinstalling.

Just had a major kernel panic I had never seen before since upgrading to Mavericks. I had missed a FaceTime audio call, clicked on the notification which opened a window saying if I wanted to make a call. Clicked "call", as soon as the other person answered the whole operating system crashed.

Ouch, that's nasty. Seems to be something in the new audio driver: "Kernel Extensions in backtrace: com.apple.iokit.IOAudioFamily(1.9.5f2)".

Is it easy to reproduce you think?

It is interesting that every Apple OS is affected by this (not suprising as the vulnerable SSL certificate authentication is one of their main protocols for messaging apps). Seems pretty obvious that the NSA forced the insertion of this vulnerability, just like they forced Microsoft to put a vulnerability in Windows Update to enable Stuxnet and Flame to spread in Iran.

Just updated late 2012 Mac mini and Early 2013 MBPr.

MBPr updated without asking for iCloud PW. However on Mac Mini I was asked for iCloud PW plus it automatically added iCloud mail account to Mail.app.

In process of checking to see if mail gets marked as read when read on other devices. So far it is working when pressing the get mail button but doesn't seem to update when left alone. Deleting email is instantaneous.

Anyone else having problems with Spotify application? Mine starts and closes right away :( need my Spotify to work.

Works fine for me.

Only Mavericks is affected by the SSL issue.

Following up on the issue I was having downloading this update, I was finally able to manually download the update such that the SHA-1 hashes matched. I'm now on 10.9.2, and gotofail now goes to pass :). So, my advice if you are having problems with the download is to just keep trying... but maybe wait a bit in-between attempts to give Apple's servers some time to breathe :).

Every Apple OS? Perhaps if every means a small number out of many versions of different Apple OSs.

do you mind telling us where you are located, country? if NA state/province?

If you're this enthusiastic about operating system updates, you should move to Windows. You'll be whooping with joy almost every 6 hours ;)

(I appreciate your comment may have been sarcastic)

This is hilarious because of how true it is! Just one of the reasons I disliked windows. CONSTANT annoying updates prompting me to restart my machine!

Only Mavericks is affected by the SSL issue.
I thought Mountain Lion was affected as well (as it shared a codebase with iOS 6). I have to wonder if this was exploited by three letter agencies to crack iMessage. I mean the NSA probably has an endless array of 0-days for SSL forgery, but this one seems easy enough for even say the DEA to use, scanning for more drug offenders to imprison.

I always find "FaceTime Audio" naming is a bit ridiculous. The point of FaceTime was a video call and communicate face to face and no longer voice only, hence the name.

But now it back again to basic with Audio only and contradict the root idea, it's like inventing an electric car only to add diesel option later in the process. Why?

I know not every time people would find video call feasible, at times it may seems inappropriate or awkward. I'm okay with that, but maybe Apple should just call it VoiceTime. I know it's only naming but hey, isn't that all Apple about? :D

Agreed. They should axe FaceTime and integrate the video and voice features into Messages so that is becomes the unified realtime communication application.

Maybe because naming it other than Facetime would make people confused.
like if Apple would name it Voicetime I would think its another app doing only voice call. they should say "Facetime Audio Only" but that would be too long.

Mountain Lion wasn't affected as it didn't have the particular coding mistake and the tests for it also showed that it handled it properly, unlike Mavericks (until the latest update).

They really should just call it Messages and merge it with Messages where it just handles everything similar to Skype. Having 2 apps to do messages (which can also do video chat and audio) and then one for video only now audio it all just seems a bit ridiculous. Give me one app that just does it all please. Oh and add to it the ability to support skype network too so I can get rid of that. Infact while you are at it let it handle email too and get rid of Mail.

They had better issue an update for all remaining iOS6 users. They are despicable actors if they do not.
