only 64GB 5.5-inch version will use sapphire displays.

I call BS on that

Why? It can happen for the same reason that Apple couldn't put TouchID on the iPads last year, there's not enough time and supply to ramp it up to fit all models they have.

It's best for Apple to test the scalability by putting it on the brand new model that is out of range of most folks and put it in the rest of the models next year.

I'd imagine the 64GB 5.x inch model will 100-200$ higher than the 64GB 4.7 inch model.

everyone likes to bash on analysts. Kuo is often right. Certainly enough to pay attention to.
What does it help if he is right, when what he predicts are two sizes of iWatch?
I don't wanna life on this planet anymore. :(
Nothing anybody couldn't have guessed and he was wrong on his most important prediction for 2013.
The new lower-cost iPhone being lower cost.

So, am I really going to have to wait till December according to this news to get the 5.5 or 5.7 inch iPhone?

Also I guess there will not be a 128GB version since they are saying only the 64GB will have a sapphire display.

I wonder how much this is going to cost unlocked, maybe like $900?

Apple is set to release a slew of new products during the third quarter of 2014 according to KGI securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo, who often provides reliable information on Apple's product lineup.

In a 2014 product roadmap, Kuo suggests Apple will introduce its first new product of the year, a lower-cost iMac, during the second quarter. Soon after, during the third quarter, Kuo predicts Apple will introduce an upgraded iPad Air and iPad mini, followed by an iWatch in two separate sizes, and a 4.7-inch iPhone.

An upgraded Apple TV set-top box will come somewhat later, as will the rumored 12-inch ultra slim MacBook and upgraded Retina MacBook Pros. Later, in the fourth quarter, Apple will introduce the 5.5-inch iPhone, which is said to be delayed due to issues with in-cell display technology. Along with his roadmap, Kuo also gives specific information on each of Apple's upcoming products.

- iWatch: Kuo believes the iWatch will ship during the end of the third quarter, offering biometric functionality, integration with the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and a "fashionable appearance." As has been previously suggested, he predicts the device will come in two sizes, with a 1.3-inch and 1.5-inch flexible AMOLED display. It will also include a sapphire cover lens, biometric recognition, an NFC chip, wireless charging, a 200 to 250 mAh battery, and a slim and light design. Kuo also believes that Apple will offer the iWatch at multiple price points, with the most expensive version costing upwards of $1,000.

- iPhone 6: Supporting previous iPhone 6 rumors, Kuo believes the device will come in two sizes: 4.7 and 5.5-inches, with resolutions of 1334x750 (326ppi) and 1920 x 1080 (401 ppi), respectively. Both models will come with an A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, LTPS display panels, optical image stabilization, and Touch ID. Kuo points to a 10 to 20 percent narrower bezel, a 6.5-7.0mm thickness, metal casings, and NFC integration. Mass shipments of the 4.7-inch version are expected in September, with the 5.5-inch version shipping later. Kuo suggests that only the 64GB 5.5-inch version will use sapphire displays.

- iPad Air 2: The second-generation iPad Air is expected to adopt Touch ID, an A8 processor, and an improved camera with a resolution of eight megapixels. Kuo believes the second iPad Air could come earlier in the year than the previous iPad Air, which was released in October.

- iPad mini with Retina Display: Like the iPad Air, a new Retina mini could gain an A8 processor and Touch ID, but Kuo believes it will retain the same form factor. He also suggests that the older iPad mini with Retina display could be sold at a lower cost.

- 12.9-inch iPad Pro: Kuo believes that Apple is indeed working on a 12.9-inch iPad, but he does not expect it to be launched in 2014.

- 12-inch MacBook Air: As rumored, Apple is believed to be preparing an ultrathin MacBook Air that incorporates a touchpad without buttons and functions without a fan. It is also expected to include a higher-resolution display.

- iMac: A lower-priced iMac is believed to be on the horizon, which Kuo says could help boost iMac shipments by up to 23 percent. It could be Apple's first product launch of the year.

- Apple TV: Apple is not expected to launch a full television set this year, but an upgraded set top box with an App Store and motion control technology is expected.

While Kuo's predictions do include many rumors that have previously surfaced over the past several months from a variety of sources, his roadmap gives a solid overview of what we might expect from Apple in 2014. We've also broken out several of his predictions into individual posts that can be found here: iWatch, iPad, iPhone 6, MacBook Air.

The graphic timeline image outlines a lot of Apple's problem. all of the releases later in the year. Should get back to a March release for something. Really, every quarter should have a new product or refresh. Once the line starts to head south, BANG! New product, coast......line goes soft, BAM! new product, coast again........BOOM! New product, then 4th Calendar Quarter rapid fire release a few new products so that we have new Holiday toys......you get my drift Tim, right?

In other words, space it out!!

I guess we will have to listen to all of the Android fanboys beating Apple up with the S5 and HTC1 for the next 7 months. The later which is actually pretty frackkin nice!

The money(s) in my savings account are already packing their bags and saying good-bye.

Disagree with 5.6" iPhone, instead we will see an 5.6" Gaming iPod Touch.

MORE:

Some friends mining some movement at apple, means that APPLE WILL OFFER HD LOSSLESS AUDIO ON THE NEXT iPHONE, (maybe some previous models too), ENABLING HIGH BIT RATE AUDIO, ALSO iTunes WILL OFFER HD LOSSLESS VERSIONS OF MOST TITLES (for a prime, also a prime upgrade if you already have such titile).

I'm having a hard time with the $1,000 iWatch tidbit. That just seems unrealistic.

$299 and $399 seem like more realistic price points for a companion, wearable device. Not that Apple plays to the competition all the time, but those prices are in line with others + the usual Apple tax.

I can see it. There will be a cheap version but there will also be luxury versions (leather, other premium materials). Lots of people are willing to pay a very high price for luxury clothing - I'm not one of them.

Poor product launch timing

Apple should space out their product launches to drown out their competitors and generate excitement throughout the year which would also serve to help sell more products throughout the year. It's almost as if they think people only spend money during the holiday season... stupid. It's little details like this where Apple has fallen short in recent years IMO... not lack of innovation.

The timing is terrible. Why not space it out so everyone is not trying to rush into the Apple store at the same time and you get people to buy all the Apple products locking them into Apple support and services longer.

Yep because then you can by a new product each quarter. This also stabilizes the money flow. Why be dependent on one quarter. What happens if you run out of something? I think they need to release at wwdc... Or maybe quiet launches are the wave of the future.

It's simply not gonna happen, if they can't make enough sapphire displays, they're gonna push it back to 2015, apple could've put touch id on 128gb or 64gb ipad airs but they didn't,now, you're telling me they could do it for the 64gb 5.5 inch iphone?

This could happen for android phones but it's never gonna happen with iPhones

Why? Because with iPhones, apple keep it simple, it's never happened and it's never gonna happen. iPhones are only different by their capacity (and of course cellular antennas) . We've seen 8 iphones and it hasn't happened yet so that's why I call BS

Sorry, i must've blanked out there for a minute, a $1000 iwatch??!

My last watch purchased was a Casio Oceanus (only released in Japan), and i thought long and hard about spending $600AU…..

I don't like the product timeline either, but it's going to be tough for Apple to change it. Most people are now stuck on the Sept upgrade cycle for iPhones when their contracts are up. iPads/iPods are gifts so it makes sense to release it in Q3/Q4. Macs are also stuck to Intel's chipset release, which tend to be in Q3 as well.

The only thing I could see Apple release in Q1/Q2 is the Apple TV or iWatch. But oh well, at least it will be super exciting when everything is released.
