I assume the 2.5" is in length in this diagonal and the width to be far narrower, like this concept, but with perhaps a longer screen (but same basic size)

It's curved!

I think the notion that the screen is rectangular and 2.5" diagonally indicates we are talking about a curved display that conforms to the shape of the wrist. Do you think Apple, who espouses user experience and product design above all else would want to put a massive, chunky brick on your wrist? I think not. I'm truly hoping that apple will introduce a curved AND flexible display, one that would follow the contour of the wrist comfortably.

I'm also quite convinced that Apple will stick it to the tech press by naming their wearable something other than the "iWatch". My honest prediction: iPod Flex, iPod Wear, etc. I think Apple will bring the iPod branding to its wearable device, smartly re-using and breathing life back into the nearly endangered iPod line of products. You heard it from me first...

iPod

I'm going to make a bold prediction that it will NOT be called iWatch, but "iPod."

If you look at the evolution of the iPod, it keeps getting more touchy and more wearable. The 2.5" matching the current Nano also supports this.

Apple is simply bending the screen into a "watch," adding sensors and updating the iOS. They could open the price at $149 to match the Nano, and this the "Pod" concept keeps evolving.

If it's actually going into mass production in July, it seems that they would introduce the watch at an event shortly instead of having it introduced through a series of leaked production photos. Sure, they accept new iPhone leaks all the time, but those don't reveal a whole new product...

I keep thinking that this thing is gonna look like that awesome circular mockup... I don't know how they're gonna manage to make it look better than that...

Another status symbol for the insecure. If this mugger magnet is less expensive than an Omega or Rolex, then it will sell very well.

But will it tell time any better than my US$12 Casio?

Oh God no. As if we need yet another iToy for pretentious hipsters. I'm just going to love how Apple will spin this "iWatch" as revolutionary, just like they did with the iPod, iPhone, and iPad, yet these toys don't offer anything useful except the shiny Apple logo to make oneself look superior in public. And charge a premium for it, of course. Then again this the same company whose iMacs don't even have Blu-rays. What passes for innovation at Apple is handicapping their 21.5-inch iMac with crappy tech specs while making it more affordable, when they should be improving tech specs just to appease those people who have zero intention of buying one in the first place, while those who do just want to plug and play.

Point is, I just have to laugh at those who buy these Apple mobile devices when the sole purpose is to have the right to be smug. But I guess I have to hand it to Cupertino for convincing the public to buy a big iPod touch by the millions.

Lolllll 2.5 inch on the wrist?

Will it be like a diesel watch? A large dish on your wrist?

I run 5k to 10k daily. I am somewhat excited about the expansion of the health aspect as well as an iWatch. If you noticed most athletic gear goes for light weight and streamlined. I think Apple is waiting until the ideas behind In Time can become a reality before marketing to the masses.

How many people really want their health tracked so closely? I don't really want to watch my vitals all day long. I'm too much of a hypochondriac as it is. I can definitely see runners liking this though.

Don't worry, I put a cover on my MacBook that hides the Apple logo to keep your kind from having an inferiority complex :p

And here goes Apple making even smaller and less functional devices. It is OK, seems like something nice. But I already have an iPhone which I carry with me.

I just wish Apple focused more on making the Mac more powerful and the iPad more productive, instead of developing another iToy.

No. It might be a useful product, compare the iPhone to earlier phones. It's way better. The "Apple Watch" will probably be great too. Stop bashing Apple and Apple fans on a mac forum.

An FYI... it won't be called iWatch.

It's far more than a watch and Apple don't want to restrict the device by alluding to an archaic product.

Question: Should I get a Fitbit band now, or wait to see what Apple brings to the table?

Hypochondriacs do, naturally

Next will be the iRing....

The tag line will be "One Ring To Rule Them All" then Apple will sue Peter Jackson and Tolkien's estate for infringement.....

You really can't tell what it would look like without the other dimension (length or width). If you assume it might be 1.25" wide, the length would be about 2 1/8 inches. If it was curved around the wrist it might well look like one of the mockups widely posted on the blog, especially if it had a minimal bezel. Somehow that makes the 2.5 inches seem less immense.

Might actually be about the apparent size of Dick Tracy's two-way wrist TV!
