Phones now are not just phones. You can browse the internet which is better on a bigger screen. Why are you so against choice?

Let me ask you this, where is the choice for those people who liked their 3.5" screens. People keep spewing the word "choice" when really with Apple their never is any. You take what you can get, and since it's basically the only real alternative to Android, you're stuck with a "choice" between phones you'd prefer had been smaller.

No but really... A 0.6mm protruding lens is insane.

Get over it. I'm fed up with people complaining.

If you don't like it, don't get it, simple.

I'll be enjoying my iPhone 6 while you'll still have your iPhone 5s.

I'm not sure about you, but I tend to look at the FRONT of a phone and not the BACK.

----------

All this hate over lines on the back of the phone and the protruding lens are hilarious. Who CARES. Your phone is in your pocket when not in use. When you do use it you don't stare at the back of it. Nobody else cares what your phone looks like. A majority of people will shove the phone into a case anyways thus negating whatever Apple does to the back. As a case user I can see that protruding lens as a plus. If designed right a case will be thin enough to have a cutout that makes the lens sit pretty much flush with the rear surface. That gets it up over the edge of the case and kills any possible reflections due to the flash. That's probably why it protrudes to begin with. That or it got a sensor upgrade and there's just no way to fit all the optics into that thin.

Yes, thanks you. I just said something similar.

You don't look at the back of a phone do you, the screens tends to be on the fronts does it not?

Nope. I loved the 4 design. My Mom is still using my iPhone 4 and it still looks fantastic. The 5 design was nice and impressively thin, but it doesn't look as nice. I suspect this one won't look quite as nice either. But the curved sides should be easier to grip and it will be even more impressively thin.

But let's not kid ourselves, for shear design beauty the 4 was the best so far.

The 4 was great I agree. I think the 5 looks really nice too. But what's most important is what you brought up about the curved sides. That's a huge improvement for me. I hate the sharp edges that started with the 4. Hurts my fingers (laugh all you want people) but it's really not comfortable at all to me. I can't wait for the rounded edges. Nice and soft and smooth edges on my fingers.

Somehow I feel like I've been here before.

Remember my words. You will not only buy it, you will also love its design

I've said before if the final product looks exactly like the leaks we've seen I will sell my Apple stock. But I'm confident I won't be doing that as the final, refined product with the proper fit and finish will look much better than any leak we've seen. That's how it was with iPhone 5. None of the leaked photos looked as good as the final product Apple released.

Apple produces products for the largest market segments, because that's where you can achieve economies of scale and make real profits.

Producing a phone for the tiny and shrinking segment that would prefer a 3,5" screen would be unprofitable. Any Apple shareholder would be against it.

Extending Camera Lens?

Does anybody else think that perhaps the camera lens extends like the lens of a point-and-click camera does when you turn it on?

These renders from China Telecom (via 9to5mac.com) seem to show it flush with the surface:

Pull up the thread here when Engadget leaked photos of the 4. Lots of negative comments similar to what we're seeing now.

How can people defend a bad design just by saying that they only look at the Front panel and not the back??

C'mon people, one of the reason we buy Apple products is because of their design, not just the functionality, that's how they get away with charging twice the price of the competition.

Me too.... I like what I see in that image a lot. If that is real, then that is a HUGE leak.

Back in June there was a rumor that those antenna breaks would not be part of the final design; that the back of the phone may look more like the 5/5s. Of course the usual suspects (like Martin Hajek) then created renders based on this rumor. My guess is China Telecom is using some of those renders.

https://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/30/iphone-6-mockups-low-quality/

Nikkei sources also say the antenna breaks, shown on the back of some mockups, will not appear in the final version of the iPhone 6. These white-striped lines are thought to mark out the location of the back panels and are not part of the final external design. As a result, the backing on the iPhone 6 may closely resemble the styling of the iPhone 5/5s.

These kinds of things remind me why I hate the mainstream.
I don't wanna sound like a hipster, but seriously why 5.5, who in the damn world has hands that big and can still use their phone with 1 hand. What happened to small and comfortable to use after taking it out of your pocket?

What ever happened to technology having to get smaller and smaller, why are we going in the opposite direction? only to realise later that we want things smaller again because it's all too big.

You do realise its not obligatory to buy one, right ?

I am reasonably sure that there is a significantly larger marget for 3.5" phones than for 5.5" phones.

Everytime someone says this, I cringe.

As if apple is developing their new product right now and everytime they finish a concept of feature, they have this shareholder looking over their shoulder, approving and disproving anything they do. Stop using this so loosely, it's far less of a factor than people make it out to be.

Interesting ... It appears, according to a number of comments here, that some people don't approve of the band on the back of the apparent iPhone 6. Since I use a protective case on my phones I care little about this. I'm more interested in the internal hardware, screen resolution, and the OS. Aesthetics has always been a secondary issue for me. I'm using iOS 8 and Yosemite ATM and I greatly approve :)

I don't know about anyone else, but i'm really looking forward to this. If there are 2 iPhones (4.7" and 5.5") then it's a good thing, more choice for everyone. Not everyone is going to want a 5.5" but the option is there.

Also a 128GB model makes sense for the 5.5" and if indeed there is a protruding camera, it could be for a reason, they are making the camera better? i could live with a protruding camera if it means a better camera in some way.

Only a couple of weeks left and we will find out :D

Out of curiosity, do you also open the phone and look inside to judge the quality of the design?

Who is "we"? My house is full of Apple products, and I haven't bought a single one of them for the design. In fact, my Mac Mini is completely hidden behind my somewhat ugly Samsung monitor.
not just the functionality, that's how they get away with charging twice the price of the competition.
Actually, I pay the "Apple premium" for build quality, good support and most of all for ease of use.

That's what worries me. The latest iPod touch is probably one of Apple's worst designs in recent memory and it looks a lot like the iPhone design leaks. But hey, no Steve no veto it seems like.

Interesting. I really like ours (shared amongst the family). It's a really nice design in my opinion.

I like the slightly rounded back/edge (similar to the first iPhone or the 5c) - it fits nicely into the palm. Its dimensions + weight mean it's barely noticeable in the pocket. And I like the anodized aluminium finish - feels like a MacBook.

Somehow I feel like I've been here before.

well, with the 5c..people didn't love the design..and didn't buy it (as much as Apple was expecting)..so..you are wrong.if the design sucks, less people will buy it,whether it's by Apple or not.specially in a market that competition is getting tighter and tighter.
I never found any past gen iPhone leaks ugly (with exception of 5c).
But this..takes ugliness to a whole new level.
