Not really. While it is amazing what they manage to do with high end products, Samsung sells more phones in more countries, more carriers and has faster rollouts.

It depends what metric you apply. If you only look at numbers of phones then yes, Samsung wins. But if you look at product quality and profit it is a totally different story. The majority of Samsung phones are low end crap and are sold with very small margins, while each iPhone Apple sells is high end (considering the whole spectrum) and very profitable.

I expect a ratio of something like 80:20 in favour of the 4.7" model. I doubt Apple will release a breakdown of each model's sales (As they didn't with 5S/5C) but I still think the 4.7" alone will be the best selling smartphone of all time.

I don't. I think the 6+ is going to do much better than the subjective survey of sentiment HERE implies. A lot of this "need bigger pockets", "man purse", etc sentiment will evaporate in a flurry of "but when I got to see them" shifts after they are on display at the stores. The 6+ is just 1cm wider and 2cm taller than the 6, yet it brings a much bigger screen and a few other tangible benefits (don't underestimate the draw of that much bigger battery either).

I suspect the main, mass market strike against it is the price premium but I doubt even that will be such that it ends up at 80:20. If I was betting, I'd bet on the split more toward 60:40 or maybe even 55:45.

Ignore the smallish crowd here and think about who these will draw in that don't own iPhones now. The Android crowd are accustomed to 6" and larger screens. From their perspective, 5.5" may seem small and 4.7" "too small". I bet the former does much better with them than the 4.7".

It's a beautiful phone. I hope Apple lays off the THINNER THINNER THINNER approach with the next couple of iterations, and focuses on battery and storage (reducing cost) and processors. The 6 is plenty thin. Just leave it at that, or else the iPhone 8 will be a steak knife.

You just need to get yourself a pair of slick new jeans and you're all set for iPhone 6, bro.

You, sir, have won the Internet today.
Why thank you, Sir.

I am pre - ordering my 5.5" from my telco tomorrow. I was first concerned about the thing fitting in my jeans pocket, but i never thought about how i would look like when answering calls on it. i guess that iPad mini pressed against that guys face several pages justifies the irony of answering calls on a phablet. But who cares the 5.5" has the 1080p resolution, better camera and better battery life. Now i have to just get one!

Don't sweat it. Big pessimistic imaginations at play here. The 6+ is not even close to iPad Mini size. There's a lot of imagination at play rather than applying a tape measure and actually seeing the differences. I did that. Here's the result: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2lv2phny3oiytrf/iPhone6RelSizesWiPadMini.pdf?dl=0 They are to scale. Print them on 8.5" X 11" paper, cut them out and see how much smaller than an iPad Mini they are. Lay the 4.7" on top of the 5.5" and see how close they are too. It's cracking me up to read how readily some of these people are to jump on the 4.7" while spinning the 5.5" like it's nearly an iPad. If you lay one on top of the other, you'll see the actual size differences first hand. If you have an iPad or Mini, lay it on top of those too to see how much people are blowing the imagined sizes out of proportion.

All this flack on imagination. Then they'll get to actually see the real thing in the stores soon and much of this will evaporate into "but then I got to see one…" followed by "best iPhone ever".

You both realize that one IN a million is nothing like one OF 80 million, right? With the current population of the earth, one OF 80 million people would be one IN one hundred.

It's a colloquialism. Further, since you wanted to get technical, he'd be one IN ninety.

don't ship mine. i don't need 6.9mm thickness. prefer battery life and phone that will not crash in my front jeans pocket when i sit.

i'll skip next awesomely thick models too. thank you.

I think they'll still ship yours, it just won't be yours. Some other lucky person will get it

That plus 15 million iPhone 5s and c, plus 35 million (40?) iPads (there's an october event, right?) and 10 million Macs...

Sounds like maybe, just maybe, Apple might survive until the end of the year, before closing doors in January.

Hahahahaha are you crazy, apple is 600billion dolars company, that means that apple can survive 5 maybe even 10 years without selling a thing, and you are saying that it will close its doors in january next year, come on man they'll sell millions of iphone 6 and 6plus, not to mention apple watch! If you really think that apple will collaps in few months...you are an idiot

In a moment of “I can’t believe I’m doing this”, I actually did this. :) Well, not the iPad Mini, but I used a template linked from another site to get a sense of the 4.7 vs. the 5.5” by printing and cutting them out. Clearly the new iPhones aren’t anywhere near the size of an iPad Mini (good comparison drawing BTW) plus iPads are 4:3 vs. 16:9 so the phones are a good bit slimmer for using in one hand in a “phone position”

However, I was pretty surprised at how much bigger the 6+ seems over the 6. I think when you’re talking handheld devices, small increments have more than expected impact to the [perceived] size. My wife definitely chose the 4.7”, I’m very likely a 5.5” for the battery/camera differences, the size seems fine in my hand (hahaha, my cardboard phone that is ...), and I don’t think the size difference will mean pocketable vs. not (at least how I pocket them, and what I tend to wear). If it’s of any relevance, I’m 6-1, and have slightly larger than average hands I’d say ... so maybe the 4.7” crowd are wee folk :D

20 million more than iPhone 5? Okay it's two devices but...Apple seems to think that iPhone 6 is the greatest thing they've ever made when in reality it's...a bigger (and slightly uglier imo) 5S. I'm not sure what part of the 6 Apple thinks "is the biggest advancement in the history of iPhone".

Perhaps one needs to hold it in ones hand to truly appreciate it. The only thing that interests me is the bigger, higher contrast ratio screen, but as a big one-handed user, if I can't use it well with one hand it's a no-go. And the fact that you really need a case to cover up that ugly back...and if it's 1GB RAM on top of that...oh dear...Still, it will sell millions. Because who wants to be stuck using last years model, right? ;)

How many iPhone Fives were sold? Many of those are nearly two years old. How much better is the 6 from the 5? There is your answer. I know many more people with a 5 than with a 5s. Most of the folks with a 5 are upgrading. The 5 sold really well, but was replacing the vastly smaller market of 4 users.

That should make up for Apple's two hours of live-streaming problems that Samsung so graciously pointed out.

Maybe Samsung should really get into the game and sell 80 million Galaxy Note 4 by the end of the year.

That shouldn't be too difficult... right? :D

Haha..........touche!

What Samsung should have done imo is have the Note 4 ready to ship within days of announcement. The GN4 + Gear VR would have been a solid 1, 2 punch to Apple. I mean Apple have nothing to compete with Gear VR. And to those saying it's equivalent to Google cardboard  Samsung have Occulus Rift and John Carmack developing for it, it's going to be a success no matter what. VR is the real next gen tech, not watches. :D

Yeah, the next big think. Just like the 3D TVs...

What a horse-**** nosenses you can read in this forum is incredible!

Im glad it releases 27th in my country, then I have time to decide the size.... :(

If I was on an iPhone 4s, I'd upgrade, but I'm on an iPhone 5 and it honestly still runs so fast and is so light and good looking, that it feels very modern and all around a great phone. Not even considering an upgrade to the iPhone 6 which had minimal changes over the 5s besides the display size, a change I'm not even sure I want.

I said the same thing, but I cant stand the chrome edges around the current model. I have to constantly clean the phone by taking it out of the case so the chrome areas dont get beat up. Most people wouldnt care but I do. The new design eliminates that completely which is a big plus. A 4.7" is actually more pleasing because its looks even. Where as the 5 was simply stretched up, the 4.7 is the perfect size without making the phone too big. Personal preferences in the end.

Gee, my wife always tells me I'm "one in a million"...

When my wife says that I always smile and pretend I don't understand what she really means: "I could replace you with any one of literally thousands of other people in this world." Gotta keep on my toes... I'd love to get to one-in-a-billion.

You're wrong, and consider yourself corrected. I got mine on release day. So did everyone I know.

No,you're in the minority! And very lucky at that if indeed you're telling the truth. EVERYONE I know and plenty of people in this forum DID NOT get them on release day...inspite if ordering at midnight.

Someone had pointed out there was no pre-order in the states last year. That's why unless you went to the store,no one I knew got it on release day.

Even today Android phablets (5.0-6.9" screens) only make up 6% of users. Reading tech publications it seems like everyone has to have a large screen phone, but in real life that is not the case.

Which I will happily do: Had my two 5ses, 64 Gigs, space gray, delivered by a friendly UPS guy on launch day, 11:08 am. (That was in Germany, they indeed had more problems with their logistics in the US.)

I can only speak to my issues in the US. You sir, were very lucky. Lol

With the 5S isn't it the case that there was no preorder period? You ordered at midnight the same day they went on sale at retail locations.

You are correct!! I think that's why no one got them around release date. At least no one I knew in the states.

As an Apple fanboy (self-professed), even I am amazed at the amount of hypocrisy when it comes to the 5.5" model. The new "features" are a joke (and necessary because of the size) and were clearly designed to give people something to rationalize buying something they said they would never even consider (and most made fun of... the Note for example).

I dislike the Note. Always have, always will. And not because of it's features or OS either, but because of it's SIZE.

Prior to the launch, I was far from alone. There used to be rants about "using something with one hand" or "looking ridiculous" but now, magically almost, that doesn't matter.

It's a free country, and I really couldn't care less if someone wants to buy the 5.5 after a lifetime of large phone hate (presumably because it wasn't an iPhone, as evidenced by the last 2 days). But to say that the sheer amount of flip flopping over the last few days isn't hypocritical for the people who used to claim all of the negatives about bigger phones is laughable.

It IS that big folks. Sure, you can cram it in a pocket, but you will STILL look ridiculous. There may be more people looking that way though, so who knows, maybe it'll become cool?

It's the freaking iPhone Tianic. If that's what you want, go for it, but don't kid yourself that it wasn't the exact opposite of what you said you wanted 3 days ago lol.

"The sheer amount of flip flopping"...have an example of one person who flip flopped on the size?

My guess is that they don't have nearly the quantity of 6+ that they do of the smaller model, and that demand will be high enough that the 6 will be readily available and the 6+ will be the tough one to get.
