Verizon $200 trade in offer. Anyone know how it works?

According to the website, you don't even have to do the trade-in thing at the same time as the preorder:

"Once your purchase is complete, visit the online trade-in website to submit your trade request. You must submit your trade between 9/12/14 & 9/30/14 to receive this promotion."

This makes me wonder if it even matters whether you preorder thru Verizon or apple....

They have updated it but aren't showing it yet.

If you go to the Verizon Trade-In FAQ, the bottom half goes over Iphone trade-ins. They have changed their position. They are now offering $200 toward ANY iphone 6 or 6 Plus, except the Iphone 5s, which you get $300 for trade in.

Would you recommend doing this online over the phone or at a store? Seems like the key is getting the right person.

the rep told me to try calling. she said it will be busy either way, but the stores will be swamped. then she gave me her email and said to email her that i want to do the deal and she will call me back.

If you have a Verizon iPhone 5 it came unlocked and you can sell to anyone using another carrier and can advertise your phone as being unlocked. If you're phone is in mint condition, an iPhone 5 should fetch you on Craigslist $300-$350.00.

yup I did just that Listed for 350 plus the phone comes with a zagg HD screen protector , case and remaining balance of apple care which is till February 2015.

Am I doing something wrong? I have a flawless condition Iphone 4S 16GB Verizon model and when I plug the info into that site I am only getting a trade in credit of $100? Is this working for other people?

that link isnt the same thing they are offering. this is a new promotion

I just talked to Verizon and they said that I could pre-order through apple (which will prompt me for the AC+ warranty at checkout which is why I'd choose to preorder through apple) and I could STILL take advantage of the $200 trade-in promotion. I tend to believe this because the FAQ site says:

"Once your purchase is complete, visit the online trade-in website to submit your trade request. You must submit your trade between 9/12/14 & 9/30/14 to receive this promotion."

So it sounds like they just want you to purchase, renew your 2 year contract, and then you can do the trade-in thing.

The reps name was Ray... so Ray... I hope you're right!! (Otherwise I won't be very happy and will be on the phone with a different rep insisting they honor the $200 trade in deal because I will have purchased the iPhone and I will have renewed my 2 year contract).

Yup I have to strongly agree with you on that I just sold my iPhone 5 Mint in condition for 350 so it can be done and it took all of 24hours of the listing being up.

Caveat with the iPhone 5, it doesn't support AT&T and T-Mobile's LTE bands so you're limited to just HSPA+ at best. With T-Mobile, you might even have to suffer EDGE in non-refarmed areas as I don't believe the Verizon iPhone 5 supports AWS 1700/2100.

Another wrinkle: If I trade in my 5s in exchange for a $300 card, will I be on the hook for the $300ish early termination fee? Or does this go away because of the new contract?

In other words, is the gift card intended to offset the ETF?
Although it doesn't quite say it, I believe the assumption is that you are up for an upgrade and thus typically no longer in contract in order take advantage of this offer if you are going with a 2-year contract option at least. It would be nice if that wasn't so and you could upgrade even while you are still in contract and not up for an upgrade yet.

True but my craiglist buyer was taking the Phone overseas so all that mattered to him it was unlocked and the Verizon iPhone 5 was.

I have read about people who do the trade-in via the internet and after they mail their phone in they don't get the value that was quoted to them originally despite the phone being in perfect condition. Since the physical stores supposedly offer the same promotion according to the FAQ, I would rather do my trade-in transaction in the store to guarantee I'll get the $200. That being said, I just called my local store and they were clueless about the $200 promotion, so hopefully by the time the phone comes out they'll know more.

Here's just one of many examples of people who've had bad trade-in experiences:

It is for EDGE, 2 year agreement or full retail price. You have 3 options...

Thanks,
I see that now. Misread it as Edge being a 2 year contract. Didn't really understand the details of Edge.

So the summary of all this confusion seems to be what we all hoped for.

$200 credit for your phone for buying any version of 6 and 6plus.

I'm still wondering if I need to order from Verizon or Apple. The Faq says to go to verizonswireless.com and pre-order so I think I'm sticking to that route just in case.

We will see a huge class action suite if people don't get their $200 for their working phones. The Faq outlines it pretty clearly that this iPhone deal is separate from the variable trade in values. It also does not state "Up To" It's a flat value. Lets dub it Trade-in Gate now. Just in case.

Funny, this is a good enough deal that it would be worth it to buy an iphone 4 off craigslist just to trade in :p

Don't think there's any "up to" wording in the details of this particular promotion: http://www.verizonwireless.com/supp...ade_in_program.html#iPhone Trade-in Promotion

That said, as it comes down to most things, it's probably better to do it all in person (at a corporate store) rather than mailing it in.

It actually doesn't say you HAVE TO go to verizonwireless.com - it just says you CAN go there to preorder. In the "When" section of the FAQ:

Starting on 9/12/14 you can visit verizonwireless.com and place your preorder for the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Is it possible to preorder directly at a Verizon Wireless store tomorrow? I think that would be the easiest way to get my $200 credit...

I'd preorder at midnight, hopefully receive the 6 on launch day, and then that same day (or anytime before the end of Sept.) walk into a Verizon store and trade in my 4.

I've been following this thread and it seems like everyone is getting a different answer depending on who they talk to. I would like to take advantage of this offer to get the basic 6 with 16gb. I'm using a 4S but also have a 4 in really good condition that I hoped to sell for about $50 but this makes much more sense. Since I have the extra phone, I'll use that to trade in. I still have a few questions for those who have spoken to Verizon.

If I preorder tonight, do I have to pay the $199 up front and then click on the link to trade in the 4 and wait on a gift card? or

Does Verizon 'bill' me for the $199 and when I turn in the phone they credit it meaning I pay zero?

If I can't preorder and go to the store, do I place my order there, give them the trade phone and basically just pick it up when it's available paying zero? (I spoke to a rep in store yesterday who told me that they generally do the trade at the same time as the purchase and there isn't a 2-3 week wait)

Anyone who can clarify so I have a better idea on how to proceed or if I can even do the preorder without spending $200.

Thanks!

If you did that, wouldn't that mean you be phoneless for 1 week until you get your iPhone 6 next friday?

No, I have an extra iPhone 4S sitting here that I was going to sell on my own anyway. Figured this is an easier way to make $200.

Does anyone know if we have to buy the phone from Verizon to do the trade-in? I personally would like to order from Apple directly as they do not have any restocking fee's if for some reason (however doubtful) I need to return it.

Izauze, thank you for the info! This is great, glad to hear I can preorder the iphone 6 and not have to wait until release date. Looks like I will have to order directly from Verizon, which I am ok with as they shipped my 5 and 5S on time. They just have less visability into the order than you get with Apple directly. Goodbye iPhone 4S!
