Verizon online chat just told me Verizon will give a 300 gift card for trading in a 16GB 5s?
Verizon 5S is worth more than $300 in the outside market. Some people will probably take this route to avoid the hassle of selling the phone.

I just called Verizon to check to see if I could charge the iPhone to my account with a pre-order. She stated that Apple doesn't permit this so they will need to have a debit/credit card on file at the time of order. However, she also stated that the card would not be charged until the phone ships. This may be common knowledge for many but this is my first go-around with attempting to pre-order and I wasn't aware.

Also, she had no idea about the $200 trade in for older iPhones and I had to keep insisting that it was real until she found it. After she found it and confirmed, she told me that it was brand new offer today. I informed her that I took a screen-shot of it right after the keynote on Tuesday, lol.

Ok so just was chatting with a verizon rep. Hopefully this helps answer some questions.

I wonder if this works with purchasing at best buy also. I signed up for that $50 gift rad program in beginning of the year where if I purchase a phone with contract there I get $50 gift card. Then I could also get Verizon's gift card

So I can trade in my iPhone 4 for $200 and preorder the iPhone 6 Plus and just pay $100 when ordering it?

Does anyone know from previous iPhone releases how long it typically takes for the iPhone to not be backordered? I'm worried that if I'm not able to get a phone via pre-order or by going into the store on release day that I'll miss this deal since it expires on 9/30. I'm planning to do my trade-in in the store, so I'll have to have a new phone in hand at the same time.

Ok, the trade in link is now working. Just filled out the info and got the $200 gift card message. I will receive an envelop in 5 business days that I can return my old phone it. They will then send a gift card to me 2 weeks after they get the phone from me. Had to pay for the new iPhone 6 upfront, no way around that, but will easily be able to use the $200 gift card in the near future.

So I'm glad I submitted my trade yesterday. I went today to see if I could get a higher trade amount, it was $200 instead of the $250 from yesterday.

I usually preorder thru Apple but with Verizon offering a $200 trade-in, I'm thinking of going thru Verizon this time around. Anyone else taking advantage of this deal? I've had an old iPhone 4 just sitting on my desk for a long time now. I think it's time to liquidate!! $200 seems like a great sell for that thing!

This is why I went through verizon. They even pushed my renewal date up two months. $200 for my 8gb iphone 4 that no one uses. Steal to me.

Yep, I ended up going thru Verizon too. I have an old 16 GB iPhone 4 that I'm going to go up and trade in. In fact, I may try to do that today!

I also got this answer from Verizon.

Q. What is the best way to preorder multiple iPhone 6s and take advantage of the $200 trade in deal?

A. Thank you so much for reaching out to us. We are super excited about the launch of the new iPhone. In order to get the trade in deal you would need to trade in the device and then you would get a Verizon Wireless gift card mailed out to you. If you pay for the devices with a credit card on pre-order the card will not be charged until the devices are shipped.

Just thought I would detail my experience with the upgrade and trade in.
I ended up going to the Verizon online store to upgrade. Bought 2 - iPhone 6 64GB models and once the order was complete, I went to the Verizon trade in website. I was able to enter details to trade in 2 phones. Each time it asked if this was an iPhone 6 upgrade to which the $200 deal was linked. I was sent a confirmation and told to expect the mailer within 5 days. I am now reading that the traded phone needs to be shipped out within 1 week of receiving the new iPhone 6. So when I receive the iPhone 6 I will activate it at my local Verizon store, choose my plan and ship the old phones off the next day after wiping them.
Then cross my fingers that someone at Verizon doesn't see fit to refuse the $200 discount for some odd reason as I have read happens with trade in deals from time to time.

As you all go through the process here, post your details of how it goes so we have a record of these transactions. I still have my doubts that this is all going to go smoothly and I'l get $400. Will just be nice to know others experiences with this trade in deal.

I have an old iphone 4 that is not being used right now so I planned on using if for the $200 trade in offer. On the verizon community page, a customer service rep said that the phone being traded in has to be active on your account. I have read through all the FAQs and it doesn't say anything about that. Just wondering if anyone else has been given that info from Verizon. I am going to be ticked if they deny my $200 credit simply because the phone wasn't active.

They damn well better not have to be active on my account... I'll go deactivate the 4 and trade it in then.... Dumb to make me do that... Plus don't see how they'd know that if you mail it in.

So I am planning on using the upgrade on my current line. I have a 64GB 4S at this moment but was wondering if i would still be eligible for the $200 if I cancelled another line on the same account and used that phone (a 4S 16GB) for the trade-in instead.

It'd be great to hear from anyone else going through the process and to get details on how it went, how much they got back, how long it took, etc.

A key element to confirm it Doesn't have to be a currently used phone on Verizon is the fact that they are accepting these phones from any carrier. Go through the trade in screen and you will see multiple options for various carriers.

Besides andcool69's Verizon online chat, has anyone else confirmed if you can order through Apple.com and still be able to get the $200 trade-in value?

Thanks!

Gazzelle is willing to pay me $300 for my 32GB 5S. Would it be better to just see if I can get like $350 from Verizon?

I sold my 5 on Craigslist and it was a hassle. I got the "I brought $X-50, so either take it or we cancel the trade." So that was annoying...the woman was nice other than scamming me out of 50 from advertised price.

It could be worse is all I'm saying.

A Verizon customer service rep posted on their site and said the phone does NOT have to be active on your account to get the $200 credit. :)

No, you CAN NOT order from Apple.com and still receive the order. It has to be from Verizon.

Asked on Verizon Support forum

Q/ "If I preordered iPhone 6 from Apple Store can I still trade in iPhone 4 for $200?"

A/We'll clear up the confusion! The Trade In and Trade Up promotion is only available when purchasing the device directly through Verizon. For all the details, please visit http://bit.ly/1i1vrCu

I also confirmed this with 2 Verizon Support Chats. I got screwed too. They said any reps who said you could order from Apple and still receive the $200 trade in was wrong and they apologized.

Talked to a Live Chat Rep that said the same. She said if I upgraded my contract through store.apple.com it would have been valid though. (I bought mine Out of Contract

BUT if I bought it out of contract through Verizon, I would have been eligible. Lame.

They actually said either renewing a 2 year contract or buying it off contract, it HAD to be preordered from Verizon.

I was buying 3 iPhone 6 on a 2 year contract from Apple until I found out. Canceled by preorders and ordered from Verizon. I rather wait 1-2 weeks extra than not get $600 worth from my old phones.

I received my envelop to return my iPhone 4S in the mail yesterday, the same day my new iPhone 6 came! I will be sure to follow their instructions and wipe the phone and mail it back on Monday to get my credit.
