reminds me the day when I was a business consultant, feeding BS to suits all day long, powerpoint presentation about the 3 tiers of this, or the 5 C's of whatever, haha...
dude, you're thinking too hard here. people like me, we don't post pictures or videos of our phones because:
- we really don't care about proving a teenager harassing us that our phone is indeed bent
- it's not asked by people that would be helped by this, it's asked by a bunch of douchebags that keep insulting us for reporting an issue on this forum, there's no benefit for us to spend the time and effort
- we're not all into posting pics and videos for the world to see, I have no facebook, twitter, youtube accounts, not gonna start now
- once people like me post pics or videos about their bent phones, the accusations shift from "you're lying" to accusations of wrong doing. you guys just won't let go, no matter how well the cases are documented. It can't possibly be a fail by Apple, they never fail, right?
if you want my pics, feel free to hack into my iCloud account; I heard it wasn't too hard these days
Bravo. Well said.
Some people have a very strange relationship with Apple products, often bordering on religious psychosis. This is obviously great for shareholders. Some rely on Apple products to embody a kind of perfection that they themselves can not possibly achieve. Owning an Apple product is the closest many people will come to anything that remotely resembles perfection. The more imperfect the humans, the more they rely on outside talismans, and the more protective and defensive they become about them.
So if you intend to poke holes in their Apple world view, you had better come prepared for a fight. Because to be faced with evidence that their god is a fallible one is more than many people can handle.
For those who insist that reports of bent iPhones are false without photographic proof, ask yourself a few questions.
1. Why is photographic proof needed? Lots of people believe in a God without photographic proof. Why can't a verbal account be good enough?
2. How is photographic proof even proof? Won't you just say it's fake? Or that the bend was forced?
3. How would someone be served by saying their phone is bent? Why would they bother? Attention seekers can easily come up with better ways to get attention.
4. Here's the big question...why would it even matter to you if someone else's phone is bent, if yours is not? Why would you spend even one second of your precious brief time on this planet defending a giant corporation who would never dream of defending YOU?
A company makes some phones. Some people are bending them, by accident maybe, maybe on purpose, maybe without doing anything out of the ordinary. Maybe some phones are susceptible to bending because of a manufacturing flaw. Maybe they're all susceptible, due to a design flaw. Maybe some people are careless. Maybe the phone just requires different handling.
Whatever the reason, it's happening. It doesn't matter why. It doesn't matter to whom. It doesn't matter if it's happening to 9 people or 9,000. And most importantly, IT DOESN'T MATTER TO YOU. It doesn't reflect on you. You are not Apple. You are not Jony Ive. Your $600 purchase of an iPhone doesn't buy your way into the Apple board room. You are not part of an elite group because you have an iPhone. By definition of elite, no group that has multiple millions of members will ever be elite.
Apple doesn't need your help. You are not the Cupertino Bend Patrol. You are not a security guard for Apple's corporate well being. No one at Apple knows who you are or cares what you think.
If anything, you should be HAPPY about bent iPhones. It means Apple is flawed, just like you and I. It means they aren't some alien race with future technology who made a deal with the devil to take over the planet via smartphones and iPods. It also means they are not gods. 1 Infinite Loop is not the Vatican. It's a company made up of some very smart people, who make awesome gadgets, and also some mistakes. They are worthy of admiration, but not adulation. It's just a company. Repeat. It's just a company.
Transferring your fears of mortality and inadequacy to an aluminum telephone, or the company who made it, is a losing proposition. Apple can not transfer its perfect product design to your soul. You can rent it for a while, and touch it, but it is not you. Repeat. I am not my Apple product.
If your phone is flawed, so what? So are you. If your phone is perfect, so what? You're still imperfect.
Watergate struck a nerve in the USA because the president is a trusted official, whom we elected to watch over us and keep our best interests at heart, and he did not fulfill the role.
Bendgate is not a result of Apple's failure to fulfill a role. No one has elected Apple to do anything. Bendgate is YOUR insecurities and flaws laid bare.
People with bent phones do not bear the burden of proof in a roomful of random internet screen names. The burden lies with those who doubt their words to stop deifying a trillion dollar company.
