I can't believe so many so-called technical people still refuse to do a clean install. Having said that, if Apple's software quality wasn't so horrendous then there wouldn't be so many problems. But people should do a clean install, it's idiotic not to.

Fooey!

Never had a problem with update with many Macs from Jaguar to Yosemite.

Battery life significantly improved

I have an MBA 2013 13" i7 1.7GHz.

I am positively surprised by the significantly improved battery life under 10.10.2, especially when running Parallels Desktop V 10.1.3

Love it!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

So far so good! Less choppiness with graphics. If you want to see for yourself, try clicking the buttons in "About This Mac" before and after updates! Much smoother now

Halle-freakin-lujah!

All the sluggishness is gone! Safari no longer dawdles a few steps behind me. Multiple tabs no longer drag the system to crawl. Network access seems significantly less sucky. My Mac no longer takes half a Peter Jackson film to boot.

I feel like I finally have my Mac back.

Note to my future self: No more early adopting on the OS X upgrades. Be patient next time.

My Mini still takes an ungodly long time to boot

How many people would know how to do a clean install without an install CD or drive?

Get faster internet so that the page loads instantly, or a faster Mac, I do not have such problems, Safari has been rock solid for me most of the time.

This never existed before for Safari until the last 2 - 3 updates. Nor did beach balls.

… xprotect … install automatically. Many times however it doesn't …

Can you link to an XProtect topic, in MacRumors Forums, with that discussion? Thanks.

White blocks still exists when scrolling Safari as a page loads. :/

If the spinning wait cursor affects Safari in particular, please see Spinning pinwheel with Safari.

Why do Mac App Store Preview links still try to open in iTunes, instead of the App Store?

No such problem here. Please see the accepted answer to What's the meaning/use of ?mt=8 and ?mt=12 in iTunes Preview and Mac App Store Preview URLs?

If the problem in your case can not be resolved with RCDefaultApp (screenshot attached) then please post details to a separate topic.

My biggest mistake was updating to 10.10.2, my macbook pro retina wifi connection is horrible. It was just few days I was watching 2k HD videos smooth with the internet connect speed of 60 Mbps. Using my mac right now and my internet speed is 1-3Mbps after 10.10.2 update. Apple needs to fix this issue as soon as possible. All my other non-mac laptops like chromebook and windows wifi internet speed works perfectly.

I’m going to respond to commenters who fall into three broad categories here:

  1. those who seem genuinely interested to know if wi-fi issues have been fixed for those of us affected
  2. those poor souls for whom the Yosemite nightmare goes on, and finally
  3. those who assume that we must be the problem because Yosemite works just fine for them.

—————

To anyone that was previously having the WiFi connectivity dropping problems (not the speed, but the entire thing): did the update fix it?

Currently using Mavericks and can't be bothered to upgrade again to Yosemite just to find out it still isn't fixed and have to downgrade back to Mavericks.

It's rare for me that the wi-fi status indicator shows no connection, but when pages won't load at all, or stall half way through, the result is much the same. But mostly it's just very, very slow. Resetting wi-fi doesn’t even seem to help much now. This seems even worse than before.

Those that had issues with WiFi since the beginning with Yosemite:

Finally fixed? Yes or no. Also, what model do you have?

No. MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011).

Meanwhile, things seem fine on my iPhone and iPad, so tonight I’ve done a few speed tests on all three devices. They are all using the same ISP, the same modem/router, and they’re all sitting the same distance from the router. I didn’t just test each device once… I tested each a number of times, to make sure I was getting reasonably consistent results (which I was). I even reset the Mac’s wi-fi and ran the test straight after (when things are normally at their best) and that’s the one I share here. Here are the results for each device (the link takes you to the actual speed test results):

iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1.3: around 12 Mb/s

iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.3: around 12 Mb/s

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2: less than 1 Mb/s

Don't suppose this fixes the mDNSResponder / discoveryd issues?

In addition to wi-fi issues, I still have the occasional website not being found, when they load just fine on my other devices, so no, it would appear not.

—————

I had hoped this would fix all Wifi issues ..... Alas it does not

If you are connected 802.11ac (and get 1300mbps) go into Finder and click Airdrop then check your speed .. it drops to 260mbps or there about

It also does not seem to recover back up to the maximum speed

Still looks like discoveryd and Wifi/Bluetooth are broken

First test: Wifi issue (in my case: severely degraded speed when Bluetooth is active (rMBP 15'', late 2013, discrete graphics)) not fixed.

WiFi is still not fixed: webpages in Safari still don't load correctly or don't load at all.

****** this!

If anything it's worse for me now. No idea why. Considering dropping back down to Mavericks too.

Still having wifi issues.

Still having wifi issues and my internet speed is slow on my macbook pro while my other devices internet speed is fast.

Sharing all your comments in one place for the benefit of others, particularly those who want to know if Yosemite still has wi-fi issues. Don’t we know it!!

Which model of Mac. Just saying "WiFi isn't fixed" doesn't help a bloody thing if it is working fine for others, especially those who didn't have a problem with it to begin.

My Mac is a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011). Does that help?

I had also basically no issues. I'm sure 90% of the issues in this forum are user related.
I mean most people that complain probably do something like this

1) test Mavericks betas (10.9)
2) like the betas and keep them OR don't like the betas and downgrade
3) upgrade to 10.9 Final
4) test all 10.9.X betas, possibly including downgrades due to issues OR don't like 10.9 so downgrade to 10.8
5) test Yosemite betas (10.10)
6) like the betas and keep them OR don't like the betas and downgrade
7) upgrade to Yosemite final (10.10)
8) test all 10.10.x betas, possibly including downgrades due to issues OR don't like 10.10 and downgrade to 10.9/10.8

**** is gonna go wrong at one point especially if there is no clean install involved between betas and final versions

Oh boy, where do I even start… Firstly, your post isn’t clever or funny or informative or useful. It's just presumptuous nonsense, insulting to everyone who has experienced real problems with Yosemite, and barely deserving of a response. That's not me being rude BTW, it's me being blunt.

FYI, I have never installed an OS X beta on this machine. I came straight from Mavericks, which incidentally had perfectly functioning wi-fi. After scouring the web for many hours looking for a fix, I ended up doing a clean install of Yosemite about two months ago. And I mean CLEAN. I didn’t even use the Migration Assistant to restore Library files, preferences, etc. I painstakingly set everything up afresh. My wi-fi, initially, seemed somewhat improved. But over time it got worse. 10.10.2 seems to have made it worse again.

I don't think a clean install will fix every user problem. In many cases, it can solve some problems.

If my experience counts for anything, a clean install is not a sure fix for Yosemite’s wi-fi issues.

totally agree on the clean install solving all problems...yet, ironically, people would rather bitch then spend the time solving the issue with a clean install. I would love to see a poll on who had problems and IF they did a clean install

So post a poll. Here’s your first vote: Yes, wi-fi is broken for me, and yes, I did a clean install.

Fooey!

Never had a problem with update with many Macs from Jaguar to Yosemite.

Me either. Till this one. Upon restart after the update my 2010 MBP would display the Apple logo and progress bar, followed by the dreaded circle with a line through it. No manner of button pressing would yield any different result. Actually had to make a genius appt. Took it in a few days ago and replicated the issue with the genius. He was finally able to get past the dead end screen using his diagnostic cable. They've had my MBP for a few days now. The upside is how gracious the genius was, as usual. Such a great customer service experience. But I really need my MBP back!

Apple Releases OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 With Security Fixes, iCloud Drive Browsi...

Must share my experience..

Bought new imac a few months ago which arrived with Mavericks installed. Worked like a charm. Ran it for 2 weeks on Mavericks. Wifi fast, responsive no issues. Upgraded to Yosemite and problems instantly started.... 10.10.1 Wifi slow, Safari pages begin to load (blue bar gets so far then stops). Browser times out and says can't contact server. I'm annoyed but hey, fingers crossed for 10.10.2 it surely can't make it worse?..... It did.

Under 10.10.2 it sometimes works ok but often get the same website timeouts and disconnects. However it also now sometimes completely drops the connection altogether and also occasionally shows the WiFi symbol with a big exclamation mark through it. Wonderful! Wish I'd stayed put on Mavericks.

Please don't tell me that my network is at fault as wifi worked like a dream under Mavericks. Only thing I've changed is to upgrade to Yosemite which is clearly dog dirt.

Basically I've got a brand new imac, system untouched, empty, fresh out the wrapper and all I did was upgrade it to Yosemite and it messed it up it to the point where Wifi is often unusable, Totally unacceptable. Something as basic and fundamental as WiFi on a £1500 computer should just work!!!! I can't be anything but angry with apple.

In contrast my 2006 imac continues to run perfectly. 9 years of flawless service. Boots up in 25 secs every time....same as the day I bought it. I've never upgraded OSX on it. It's still running Tiger. Maybe that's where I went wrong... Progress eh?

100Mbit is consider slow to you? Here in Canada, we still have providers offering 6Mbit, 10Mbit, 15Mbit. Presently, we're on 25Mbit. The price gets outrageous above that...

I was being sarcastic. Mainly because the guy I quoted was bragging about his fibre but it was clear the download time was the same meaning his connection speed was meaningless.

Thank you very much, kalsta. I also have a 15" MBP 2011 and I think I'll keep watching and waiting. I guess Time Machine backups are a pain too with that speed.

OK, 2 days now and Safari is working much better after I re-jiggered my apps

If anyone is having problems with Safari I suggest going to the extensions section in Safari and getting:
Clicktoflash
Adblock Lite
Ghostery

Curious to see if this works for others

To clarify, these are Safari extensions, and don't come from the App Store.

What did you do to "re-jiggered" your apps?

I switched from adblock to adblock lite
Deleted one other app and added ghostery.
I think it's ghostery that helped the most as I have used it before when I was having issues with some pages

However, there was also a new xprotect and this never "shows up" in the mac app store. It is supposed to install automatically. Many times however it doesn't and people may in this case like to manually install it.

Thanks for the tip. If "Install system data files and security updates" isn't checked in the App Store prefs pane, Xprotect won't be installed or configured.

I've never been affected by Wi-Fi issues, thankfully, but the fact that even a small percentage of users are still having the same issues update after update is ridiculous. I really want to know what makes these issues so hard to fix. Apple claims to have "fixed" these issues time and time again, so why aren't they fixed?

And no, "Apple is spending too much time on X and Y instead of fixing bugs" isn't the reason. Nor is "Apple doesn't care".
