Im going to respond to commenters who fall into three broad categories here:
- those who seem genuinely interested to know if wi-fi issues have been fixed for those of us affected
- those poor souls for whom the Yosemite nightmare goes on, and finally
- those who assume that we must be the problem because Yosemite works just fine for them.
To anyone that was previously having the WiFi connectivity dropping problems (not the speed, but the entire thing): did the update fix it?
Currently using Mavericks and can't be bothered to upgrade again to Yosemite just to find out it still isn't fixed and have to downgrade back to Mavericks.
It's rare for me that the wi-fi status indicator shows no connection, but when pages won't load at all, or stall half way through, the result is much the same. But mostly it's just very, very slow. Resetting wi-fi doesnt even seem to help much now. This seems even worse than before.
Those that had issues with WiFi since the beginning with Yosemite:
Finally fixed? Yes or no. Also, what model do you have?
No. MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011).
Meanwhile, things seem fine on my iPhone and iPad, so tonight Ive done a few speed tests on all three devices. They are all using the same ISP, the same modem/router, and theyre all sitting the same distance from the router. I didnt just test each device once
I tested each a number of times, to make sure I was getting reasonably consistent results (which I was). I even reset the Macs wi-fi and ran the test straight after (when things are normally at their best) and thats the one I share here. Here are the results for each device (the link takes you to the actual speed test results):
iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.1.3: around 12 Mb/s
iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.3: around 12 Mb/s
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011) running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2: less than 1 Mb/s
Don't suppose this fixes the mDNSResponder / discoveryd issues?
In addition to wi-fi issues, I still have the occasional website not being found, when they load just fine on my other devices, so no, it would appear not.
I had hoped this would fix all Wifi issues ..... Alas it does not
If you are connected 802.11ac (and get 1300mbps) go into Finder and click Airdrop then check your speed .. it drops to 260mbps or there about
It also does not seem to recover back up to the maximum speed
Still looks like discoveryd and Wifi/Bluetooth are broken
First test: Wifi issue (in my case: severely degraded speed when Bluetooth is active (rMBP 15'', late 2013, discrete graphics)) not fixed.
WiFi is still not fixed: webpages in Safari still don't load correctly or don't load at all.
****** this!
If anything it's worse for me now. No idea why. Considering dropping back down to Mavericks too.
Still having wifi issues.
Still having wifi issues and my internet speed is slow on my macbook pro while my other devices internet speed is fast.
My biggest mistake was updating to 10.10.2, my macbook pro retina wifi connection is horrible. It was just few days I was watching 2k HD videos smooth with the internet connect speed of 60 Mbps. Using my mac right now and my internet speed is 1-3Mbps after 10.10.2 update. Apple needs to fix this issue as soon as possible. All my other non-mac laptops like chromebook and windows wifi internet speed works perfectly.
Sharing all your comments in one place for the benefit of others, particularly those who want to know if Yosemite still has wi-fi issues. Dont we know it!!
Which model of Mac. Just saying "WiFi isn't fixed" doesn't help a bloody thing if it is working fine for others, especially those who didn't have a problem with it to begin.
My Mac is a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011). Does that help?
I had also basically no issues. I'm sure 90% of the issues in this forum are user related.
I mean most people that complain probably do something like this
1) test Mavericks betas (10.9)
2) like the betas and keep them OR don't like the betas and downgrade
3) upgrade to 10.9 Final
4) test all 10.9.X betas, possibly including downgrades due to issues OR don't like 10.9 so downgrade to 10.8
5) test Yosemite betas (10.10)
6) like the betas and keep them OR don't like the betas and downgrade
7) upgrade to Yosemite final (10.10)
8) test all 10.10.x betas, possibly including downgrades due to issues OR don't like 10.10 and downgrade to 10.9/10.8
**** is gonna go wrong at one point especially if there is no clean install involved between betas and final versions
Oh boy, where do I even start
Firstly, your post isnt clever or funny or informative or useful. It's just presumptuous nonsense, insulting to everyone who has experienced real problems with Yosemite, and barely deserving of a response. That's not me being rude BTW, it's me being blunt.
FYI, I have never installed an OS X beta on this machine. I came straight from Mavericks, which incidentally had perfectly functioning wi-fi. After scouring the web for many hours looking for a fix, I ended up doing a clean install of Yosemite about two months ago. And I mean CLEAN. I didnt even use the Migration Assistant to restore Library files, preferences, etc. I painstakingly set everything up afresh. My wi-fi, initially, seemed somewhat improved. But over time it got worse. 10.10.2 seems to have made it worse again.
I don't think a clean install will fix every user problem. In many cases, it can solve some problems.
If my experience counts for anything, a clean install is not a sure fix for Yosemites wi-fi issues.
totally agree on the clean install solving all problems...yet, ironically, people would rather bitch then spend the time solving the issue with a clean install. I would love to see a poll on who had problems and IF they did a clean install
So post a poll. Heres your first vote: Yes, wi-fi is broken for me, and yes, I did a clean install.
