Ok so i guess we have a date now. Does anyone know if Harperton will use FB-DIMMS or are we getting a new flavour of RAM?

Also does Harperton bring back HyperThreading to the XEONS? I remember hearing that it was going to be coming back.

If anyone has any good links to info one these guys please let me know, I want to see what I will be buying. :)

FB-DIMMS still. Hyperthreading will return with Nehalem, which is predicted for Q3 2008.

November 11 Faster Harpertowns Begin Selling For Less Than Slower Clovertowns Do Now

You're gong to be looking at close to $3,000, assuming frys have them. It's not a processor that is going to sell in the volumes the desktop ones do and retailers aren't going to be able to offer them at Intel's 1000 unit pricing. The X5365 (3GHz clovertown that the current Mac Pros use and costs $1,172, the same as the 3.16GHz will) came out monday and the cheapest price online from a vendor that claims to have them in stock is $1,400 each. They will probably remain around there for a fair while.
Yes but November 11 Harpertowns will be introduced to the market at $2,344 a pair not $2,800 a pair. Faster Harpertowns will start selling at a lower price than the current Clovertowns.

Retailers probably won't be buying in the volume to be able to offer that price though.

And oops, yes I did mean Q3 2008. Infact I'm eagerly awaiting the "2008 Gainestown / Thurley Motherboard With New Graphics Cards 8-Core Mac Pro" thread. ;)

Retailers In America Don't Sell Anything For More Than List Price

In America retailers aren't allowed to sell above the suggested list price and almost always sell for less - especially Fry's.

Ahh, $1,172 isn't a suggested list price though. It's just the price Intel will sell a tray/crate/box of 1000 processors at per processor. I think retail price is like $1,450 or $1,500.

Those Are Not RAW Tray 1K Prices - Those Are Boxed Retail Prices Quantity ONE

Nope. Those are retail boxed prices quanty ONE not quantity 1k prices.

Read the title of the article again.

Me too, I'm waiting until Q3/2008 to buy my Thurley motherboard, Tylersburg chipset, Gainestown (Nehalem) processor Mac Pro.

Just joking, I'm having a rough time waiting until November for Harpertown.

Dailytech used to state that all prices were based on Intel's 1000 unit pricing, they seem to have stopped doing so, despite using those prices for reference. I know they are talking about retail versions there, but it would be a tad odd if Intel's suggested retail prices for penryn Xeons lined up exactly against their current prices for 1000 units. I believe these are the prices that Intel quotes when talking about pricing.

These Are November 11 Consumer Retail Prices Not Wholesale

No because we are discussing November 11 Harpertown prices not August Clovertown prices. That a whole quarter forward. I feel confident the article is listing consumer retail prices.

My Command Center Is A Mess

Can we be expecting pictures and first thoughts soon? I think it might be time to update that signature too ;-)
My Mess. Left is 20" DELL Portrait mode attached to old PB. Then 20" DELL Portrait & 30" attached to Quad G5's ATI Radeon X1900 for G5 card. Then a 24" DELL Portrait mode and a 40" Samsung HDTV attached to the Mac Pro. I need another card to drive the ACD HD I got with the Mac Pro.

This is my idea of still life - not dressed for the photo of my current chaos.

Very nice. Not a lot of leg room [smile]
Isn't there two G5s there along with a Mac Cube?

You've certainly got plenty of display real estate!

Yes Dual Core 2GHz G5, Quad G5, 2.66GHz MP, 1.25GHz PB, .5GHz Cube = 12 Cores

Yes I got a Dual Core 2GHz G5 at Fry's last year for $864.26. It's on the left and attached to the 20" and 24" DELLs with their alternative input ports.

With the big window open and the doors open, it's cool.

When the 8-Core Mac Pro lands in your office, what are your plans for the LCD setup? I understand you have the following:

2 x 20" Dell
1 x 24" Dell
1 x 30" Dell
1 x 23" ACD
1 x 40" HDTV

I also understand you'll be adding a HP 30" LCD alongside the new Mac Pro. What screens do you plan to have hooked up to your main machine, and each machine thereafter?

I got my first MAC! I bought a baseline Macmini to hold me over till the new MP's come out. Man, do I love it. What have I been doing all along with my taped together pcs? I've geekbenched it compared to my older pcs. I would suggest doing the geek bench thing its fun and easy.

does anyone have a suggestion for midi interfaces?
