HOW CAN THIS BE LEGAL?!! It is no different than the jailbreak versions... I can see AT&T still slapping major fines and anyone who uses it... and now they can track who bought it!!
WARNING!!!
Hi, it appears to be back on the Store, I dont know what Apple is upto, or if it will get removed again or anything, its bizare
Why would this be illegal? Tethering a phone to your computer is not against the law as far as I'm aware.HOW CAN THIS BE LEGAL?!! It is no different than the jailbreak versions... I can see AT&T still slapping major fines and anyone who uses it... and now they can track who bought it!!

Good luck with getting a educated answer. The general CSR at ATT don't know anything.
Assuming they haven't changed the terms and conditions since agreeing to the initial contract, tethering is specifically off-limits: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/articles-resources/iphone-terms.jsp (just search for "tether")It's not my fault it was available for purchase on the App Store
But seriously -- is it in the contract we signed? Was there a "THOU SHALT NOT TETHER" commandment in there?
I emailed Nullriver support yesterday and they just responded.

question. Since it is using the internet FROM the iphone does it still drain the battery on the iphone? Obviously you could always plug it into your laptop but that could be kind of annoying to always have to do that.
I'm sure it wouldn't drain an iphone in under 5 hours, but could it reduce the battery life to 8-10 hours?

AT&T said:Furthermore, plans(unless specifically designated for tethering usage) cannot be used for any applications that tether the device (through use of, including without limitation, connection kits, other phone/PDA-to computer accessories, Bluetooth® or any other wireless technology) to Personal Computers (including without limitation, laptops), or other equipment for any purpose.
AT&T said:The parties agree that AT&T has the right to impose additional charges if you use more than 5 GB in a month. Prior to the imposition of any additional charges, AT&T shall provide you with notice and you shall have the right to terminate your service.
For all those that want to get their traffic to go through this link, use a program called Proxifier. It will take all of your traffic and push it through the Socks5a proxy. It's really easy to set up and once going it will proxy every program you have running through it, so no setting up each app. WoW over iPhone3G anyone?
How would AT&T know the difference between data that is being used via tethering, and data that is being used just on the iPhone. Is it just by how much we use?
